Are there any practical reasons for SBR'ing an AR aside from maneuverability in tight quarters and looking cool? Seems like the nosedive in effective range and ballistic performance, as well as increased noise and gas to the face (when shooting suppressed) isn't worth it compared to a pinned 14.5

25.5 gr Winchester 748 topped off with a Hornady 75 gr OTM. It's already a compressed load with that bullet, it'll never fit a TMK. The higher BC isn't worth the loss in velocity.

I could load ammo that would fit in a mag.

But I'd be seating the longer bullet so deep in the case that I'd be giving up case volume and powder charge, reducing my velocity. At range, it is better for me to use the shorter bullet and push it faster, even if there's a small difference in the BC.

the only problem with magpul is some of their stocks require a QD mount insert, and the ACS line needs a QD mount that sticks out like a dick. It makes no goddamn sense, the CTR stocks are lower cost than the ACS, yet those lower cost stocks come with double sided integrated QD mount.

If you want the absolutely least expensive but still functional AR, delton, they honestly used to be a complete joke but are actually decent rifles now considering what you pay

If you don't want to change anything the AR-556 is an OK choice, but I've had ones where trying to remove the barrel nut is impossible

S&W is good but now you're starting to pay more without a ton of benefit

A colt LE6920 is going to run you just shy of 900 before tax, and is probably going to retain resell value because colt. Great barrels, good BCG, but not the most "cost effective" for how basic they are; avoid the expanse at all costs

Or have a local shop assemble one for you; I do this all the time, I've set guys up with anything from super basic entry builds to $3k+ lightweight builds and everything in between
