I need a gun for boar hunting. Due to shit European laws, it's getting more and more unlikely that i'd get a permit for semi-automatic rifle at all, and even if i do, it's already illegal to hunt with semi-auto that holds more than 1+2 rounds.
Should i go with bolt action rifle or pump-action shotgun with slugs? Any suggestions?
Pic related, it's a boar.

>>34233569
I took out a boar in my back yard with a Ruger GP100 .357 magnum (erm, 9x33)
Was mowing the grass
It came out of the woods
4 shots head on, 1 missed, 2 hits to the face barely phased the angry fucker, it turned and I got a shoulder
Put it out of its misery with the 5th shot
Really wish I had my .44 magnum (10.9x33) at the time
If given the choice between a 1+2 bolt action, or pump shotgun with slugs, the shotgun is my only choice. Absolutely, and without reservation, the shotgun.
>>
What country? Pump action shotguns might be regulated as well.
>>
>>34233569
.308 bolt action since you're a europoor with very few rights
>>
>>34233569
What environment? If it's in bush with the possibility of being charged then I recommend a marlin 336 in 30-30. Synthetic/stainless if you can find it.
>>
>>34233648
Pistol hunting is no-no. Only allowed for putting down wounded or trapped animals.
>>34233651
Finland. We have relatively liberate gun laws, but we still do what BrĂ¼ssel says. Pump-action is fine.
>>
>>34233648
1+2 rule is only for semi-auto.
>>
>>34233663
Varies, but mostly young forest and open field.
>>
>>34233673
>Pistol hunting is no-no. Only allowed for putting down wounded or trapped animals.
I understand, Finn man. I was recalling a time when I was forced by a charging boar. In my opinion, nothing beats a 12 gauge slug (normally, and readily available ammo! inb4 .950 shills and people that act like they could shoulder an A10 gatling)
>>34233677
I would not rely on bolt action for defense, such as my case when surprised by a charging animal. Hunting, bolt action is fine. Hunted, bolt action is not so fine.
>>
>>34233648
>9x33
>10.9x33
Thanks for translating that in metric, but we use the imperial denomination for most known calibers, just like you guys use 7.62 and 5.56.

You sometimes see people using 11.43mm for .45ACP here in France, but only cops and journalists do that.
>>
>>34233685
Then I'd recommend a bolt action, do you plan on hunting anything else with this rifle or is it strictly a pig gun?
>>
>>34233569
use a sink.

Do you have access to pump action ar's?
>>
>>34233721
Maybe roe deer, geese and wood grouse. Nothing larger.
>>
>>34233569
Hunters here like to use bolt actions or sometimes straight pull rifles. .308 or bigger (some go as far as 9.3x62).
For search of wouded game they have shortened bolt actions or shotguns with slugs. Personal preference I guess. Also most carry some sort of pistol, but the good hunters don't actually need them.
>>
>>34233744
Doubt it. Never seen one and probably cost too much if i find one. In legal terms it's fine though.
>>
>>34233745
We'll your kinda fucked, best to get 2 rifles. For your pig rifle I'd recommend a bolt action 308, and for your other stuff get a bolt action 223. Again with both rifles try to get stainless/synthetic.

Something like pic related should be a good pig gun for your environment, a short barrelled .308 with a 3x scope on it. Again like I say go with synthetic and stainless. Try to get something with a smooth fast bolt and durable stock.

And for your roe gun try get something with good glass and a smooth trigger pull, look at what most of the uk hunters are using. I've never hunted roe (am New Zealand) but I assume they're just like smaller fallow. The savage accu triggers feel like pure sex and all their rifles are just tack drivers. I'd recommend a Savage model 16 in stainless/synthetic with some nice vortex glass but again look at what the uk hunters are using.

There's always the option for a straight pull rifle like a Blaser r8

Another Finnfag here. Depending where you live you might be able to get .308 semi-auto rifle for hunting purposes, but it is not guaranteed. While this not a law getting permit with hunting purposes for some rifles (like Valmet Petra) is likely to be easier than with rifles that look more "militaristic". What is known now suggests that even in worst case scenario semi-auto rifles with large capacity mags will be grandfathered. So if I was you I would do things in the smart way and get the weapon that I prefer before the new legislation gets enacted and not worry about it now. Time is not your friend on this matter, so do not wait too long.

When it comes to hunting boar depending terrain either pump-action 12 gauge shotgun or at least .308 caliber bolt-action rifle should work just fine. Hence if you got that way, you may consider getting both to avoid limiting your options. As you probably know .223 and 7.62 x 39 are considered to be too weak for boar and elk (cartridge must produce over 2,700 joules from distance of 100 meters and FMJ not allowed for hunting big game).

If you want a semi-auto the smart way to do it is to join local reservist club, start doing service rifle (palvelusaseammunta) and acquire a rifle primarily for that purpose, but with hunting as secondary use. That assuming that you want for example AR-10, FN FAL or H&K G3. If you decide to go that way be very specific to list both purposes of use and in that specific order.

OP should nigger-rig a straight pull rifle into a pump action rifle.
>>
>>34233820
Understandable, they do make this rifle in a magnum as well. The Browning blr uses a magazine instead of a magtube so you can use traditional long-range cartridges. I just don't know if lever actions are banned where he is.

Fun fact: I did my hunting license shooting with these. Having been a nogunz NEET since then makes the blaser R8 the only rifle I've ever shot.
>>
>>34233905
>I don't know if they are good
They are, they really are.
Expensive out the ass, but very good.
Consistent <1 MOA 3 shot groups at 100m can be easily achieved with just about any huntig load, but I've been able to get <0,5 MOA with certain RWS hunting loads.

The action is really strong too.
>had a customer shoot a 8x57IS in a .30-06 R8 and the gun was fine

As an American who advocates for metrification, that's pretty autistic.
>>
>>34233569

Marlin 336 in 30-30 or .35Rem, 1894 in .357 or .44Mag, or 1895 in .45-70Govt

Pre-64 Winchester 1894 in .30-30 or 94AE in 7-30Waters

Enjoy your high rate of speed

OP, fellow Italian here.
We hunt boars too and I guess the laws should be about the same.

Don't go manual action with boars, you may very well need to repeat your shot. Our gunmakers have already got everything covered, there are semiauto rifles or shotguns for that.

If you want to stay cheap, buy a nice semiauto shotgun, even a used one for bird hunting. From there, you can install rifle sights, or even mount a red dot sight, and blast hard hitting slugs with enough accuracy and stopping power for anything we have here.

Heck, you should even able to roll your own. Pic related
