Mine was built on a Norinco, so eh. It has an A1 pistol grip now, too.

What would be an appropriate magnified optic, besides the original Colt optic? I'd like to pair it with a CAR-15/XM-style carbine with a retro red dot, but I'd like an optic for this one too. I just don't want another Colt optic.

When I store my guns for long periods of time I wipe them down with a special silicon cloth I we use at the gun shop. It is made for this and prevents corrosion. The by product is it makes them shinny. Once you have them out for a bit the shine goes away. Works very well. I think they are made by Birchwood but I would have to look to confirm.

>>34234436
It depends what you are looking for. Where you will already have a 20 barrel AR with your A1 the M4 might make more sense. M4 parts are easier to find and cheaper in general.

The great thing about these rifles is you can make them anything you want. Good luck with your build.

>>
>>34236047
Don't sweat it senpai, retro builds attract some of the most autistic crowds there are. If they call it an abortion but you love it, then it's their problem. Mine for sure isn't exact, for example, I've got an old C7 upper receiver on mine, not because I found it cheaper than an a1 upper receiver (it wasn't, at least for me), but because it has a brass deflector and I don't feel like getting myself and my range buddy (Lefty) repeatedly dinged with hot brass.

It's your rifle. Autists only have power over you if you let them.
>>
>>34237086
Some people don't give a fuck about autistic shit like having period correct lower receiver reinforcements.

Nice nodak though, even though its not a real Colt upper.

Or even a fixed carry handle upper. Or the correct barrel profile. Or the correct furniture. Or sling. Or slip ring. Or finish color for that matter.

Yeah, clearly the only think you poor souls skimped out on was the lower.

There are exactly two passable retro builds in this entire thread, everything else is essentially an A2 or A4 build with some A1 furniture slapped on. If you're going to built something like a retro rifle you need to at least not be a complete nigger about it and expect some backlash for your shoddy efforts.

Most of the time when I see people claim "A1" build I at least see the proper upper features. Flat slip ring, triangular handguards, .625 journal gas block and grey finish should be the main prerequisites for calling it one.

You just reminded me of this "Transferable pre 86" "A1" put up for sale on GB for 31 grand. The lower even has post-1993 receiver reinforcements and and a post-1998 M4 black finish.

Is the carbine SBR length or does the CAR muzzle bring it up to normal weapon length?

99% of people wouldn't bat an eye at seeing a p90 in a nam movie. You spent shit and got shit. It looks like something you'd see in a cheaply produced Vietnam video game developed sometime when quake was still popular.

That's neato. What particular faux moderator (flash hider) is that? And did you pin it yourself or is it more of a gunsmith job?

That's like my perfect rifle.

The barrel was like that when I purchased it. I picked it up at a gun show from a dude who does custom work on the spot.

Is that real furniture? It looks like it has ribs and imperfections in the plastic, mine is very smooth and hard. Didn't you make yours from new parts? Did you spray paint the numbers on yourself?
