These guys are the former stalker devs aren't they? Imagine if we got a Stalker 2 with the same polish and gun play as the Metro series. What's holding that back anyway?
>>
>>34230683

That's why.

Play it on PC, they were literally never meant to be played on consoles. 4A at the time of 2033 had a Dev team of literally 18 people and in Last Light they had about 40. They put this game together on a shoestring budget. Their publisher from the states went and visited them once during the production of Last Light and noticed they didn't have chairs, heating, and the electricity went out all the time. 4A is (or was) literally located in the fucking Zone. The ports for the consoles were just remapped keys and locked frame setups and the lowest rez possible because they didn't have the time, money, or manpower to do anything like a proper port.
>>
>>34230996
It seems like a good game to normie gamers. To fans of the series It's pretty shallow and basic compared to the earlier games though
>>
>>34231072

They don't own the Stalker IP and Metro is literally better in most ways, people who prefer Stalker just want open world and their memes.

Can't compare the two, one is an on rails shooter and the other is an open world exploration/survival. I love them both for totally different reasons.
>>
>>34231123

Yeah, he posted a story about it on some blog. He said he had to go out and buy them chairs, and was stupefied by what they were willing to put up with compared to the LA studios he was used to dealing with. He almost became redpilled watching that tiny group of Ivans literally shit out a game in frozen hovel that looks on par visually with most triple A games and plays a lot better in most cases because they don't have upward and downward pressure forcing them to shoot for casualizing their work. If you beat those games on Ranger Hardcore you are legitimately beating very hard FPS games, and I cannot fucking think of another time where I have been able to say that in almost a decade unironically because of how casual the entire genre has become.

Are you asking how I think they sold well or are you saying it rhetorically? Rhetorically: Yeah, I knew that they sold well, but we never got any clue or evidence of whether another Metro title would ever come out again. The last one sorta tied everything up and I felt there may have been no way they could continue it
Non-rhetorically: Well, for one I haven't seen such atmosphere in a game like metro in a long while, and the fact that they put quite a spin on the genre in so many ways, it really put itself up there. Then, to really seal the deal, they did a bethesda and made them single player exclusive and gave them a long story, something games nowadays forget, and one of the main reasons I'll play any game. I never enjoyed multiplayer as much as I did a story.

According to the synopsis it takes place over a year with the train acting as a hub base that allows you to travel across the entire expanse of Russia as the seasons pass on with locations underground and above-ground. Effectively from the information they have provided you can infer they are doing something like The Witcher 3 where the individual regions are very large levels but it isn't exactly open-world however the levels are large enough such that they may as well be.

SPOILERS

In the last book it's revealed that most of the radiation and shit is concentrated in Moscow, the villages in the outskirts are relatively safe. There's some implications that the rest of the world might not be as fucked up as everyone thinks and there's something that is blocking radio signals from reaching the outside world
>>
>>34231269
2033 had an amazing and unique atmosphere, weapons, characters and environment. Last Light only added generic video games tropes, boss battles and a romantic subplot that was shoehorned in so 14yos could have something to jack off to. They improved nothing with Last Light and only made it more like every other game which is why 2033 was great because it wasn't.
>>
>>34231370
Not asking either I digitally transcribing this via voice so the grammar is non-existent that being said I was more less asking why you would think they wouldn't make another game when really the story of the of the human species as it were was kind of wrapped up along with a lot of the underground in last Light but there was a lot of room for expansion beyond that as we can clearly see. The fact that they sold well as more less just indicated that they would continue to be made along with their continuous use as a benchmark for Hardware much the same as crisis.
>>
>>34231410
I don't know, I wouldn't have been surprised if they didn't continue it. Probably a bad example, but STALKER never got anything more despite its cult following and later diehard audience
>>
>>34231095

>>
>>34231445
Stalker 2 will never happen because GSC fell apart, not because there wasn't enough demand for it.
>>
>>34231400
I disagree on the premise of having having the I don't know what you would call that but I guess surprise support character via the child near the last half of the game suddenly appear out of nowhere he acted in my opinion as a good moral character in that he was weighing the pros and cons of artyom's actions from the previous game and his current actions in this game I suppose the love interest was forced but that was really such a small component of the overall story that it didn't detract very much all she didn't magically save the day at the end of the game or any of that nonsense and after the plague situation she didn't show up so really it was more of a situation of artyom's getting his rocks off and just f****** leaving there's not really anything wrong with that in my book again I apologize for the lack of syntax and grammar but you know voice to speech transcription really is no line for that and I don't know how to do that over my phone.
>>
>>34231469
Yeah, I thought it was a bad example
>>
I was really hoping for a more subtle story.

I think a story where a small team manages to build up an old plane, like a cessna, and then fly it to st. petersburg would be cool. After the whole fiasco in Last Light, The Order finally finds enough strength and time to justify a suicidal mission like this. It's a one way trip, but the point is to see if Moscow is truly alone. They would have lots of radio equipment so they could try and contact Moscow when they made it. The plane ends up crashing somewhere outside the city and a group of survivors has to try and make their way to st. petersburg, all the while in the dark as to if anyone is even alive there. During their crash, they lose most of their equipment, including the radios, so they can't even let Moscow know they failed to reach St. Petersburg. Once they make it to the city, they have to try and find a way into the metro and then search for survivors. There could be some really cool dynamics with exploring the unknown, totally in the dark, and no way back to moscow. It would be a one way trip from the start.

Oh well, that's just an idea I thought would be cool. I'm not liking the sound of this new game, 4A is appealing to too many gamers, and making another bland game with poor atmosphere.
>>
>>34231445
As the other Anon mentiones stalker two never was fully developed because GSC fell apart mid development and that spun off into 4A Studios who decided that they would go ahead and make Metro based off the preliminary engine for the Stocker game

Eh, it was ok. I spent way more hours on Oblivion than Skyrim. Morrowind Oblivion was the most immersive rpg experiences I've had. Skyrim was an extremely dumbed down (gameplay, mechanics, customizationwise) Elder Scrolls game.

And to keep it /k/ related Bethesda completely abandoned the real world aesthetic and feel of the arms and armor from previous games. Which was the main thing that drew me into the ES series, as well as Diablo, Baldur's Gate, and NWN. It's a breath of fresh air in a genre stifled with an attitude of 'it's fantasy, things don't need to be practical.' And then Skyrim comes along and dumbs down every aspect of the Elder Scrolls. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Skyrim. With over 200hrs in game I feel like I've definitely got my moneys worth. But as an Elder Scrolls fan I felt slightly betrayed by the reduced scope, impractical gear designs, and repetitiveness of everything.

I think that's mostly in reference to last light
>"They had this first book as an inspiration, and they more or less followed the lines of the first novel," Glukhovsky says, explaining 4A's process for adapting the book. "They did a great job," he continues. "I think Metro 2033 is the world's first lyrical, sentimental and philosophical 3D shooter."

>"Now, for the second game ( Metro: Last Light), they didn't have any plot for it," he says. "They couldn't base the story of the game on the second book, because Metro 2034 was a spin-off not focused on the original protagonist, Artyom, but the side characters of the first novel. So I had to create a separate story. My approach here was, 'I'm offering my help, you guys are professionals, you made a lot of outstanding games. You know better what works and what doesn't'."

IDK there were moments in Last Light that hooked me more than 2033 did.

The fucking swamps grabbed me by the dick pretty fucking hard, because at that point in the game I had fucked up big time on my inventory and lost a bunch of ammunition, so I was roaming around that section desperately looking for supplies everywhere.

>Running low on ammunition
>Have shotgun, tunnel nugget and revolver
>Get to a point that feels like it's going to be a boss battle
>Yep.. it's a fuckin boss battle...
>Burn through all of my shotgun ammunition
>Burn through all of my revolver ammunition
>Burn through all but five rounds of 54r for tunnel nugget
>Boss is dead but filters are kaput
>I am standing there literally suffocating waiting for that fucking bridge to drop so I can get across

Felt Metro as fuck TBHF

They're definitely some quality levels and moments Ian last Light that I Found to be better than those in 2033 I can see why someone would prefer 2033 over last night though and that's their opinion and I won't argue with it as there's no point to that they're both great games. For instance the child escort mission in 2033 is probably one of the only escort missions ever devised that has a great pay off an insane amount of tension that is very real and not artificial and actually makes the game significantly harder in a way that is completely believable as opposed to following along or protecting stupid NPC that plods at a slow pace as he is killed by a hundred small mobs. That being said the Trap in the I believe the map was called Venice was absolutely aesthetic with all of those guys tracking your ass down with f****** kitted guns and armor from the buildings that they had surrounded you in. The mission as well where you go under the monastery and have to wait for the elevator is probably one one of the most difficult and terrifying Parts out of any FPS game I've ever played.

The sad thing is, the short AK was only available on HC, a mode where it is possibly the worst gun in the game. This is compounded by the fact that the RPK, also a preorder gun and arguably the best gun in the game, was available on all modes. I just dont know what they were thinking, its pretty much a waste of a gun.
>>
>>34231818
That rifle isn't bad however! The green laser AK you can glitch into your inventory after dealing with all of guys trying to kill you at Venice is the most aesthetic of weapons you can have a shame though it's only for a short amount of time and not really something you can consistently use.

Well in the 'Bad' ending yeah its shown Anna gets knocked up and Artyom has a kid.

In the good ending Artyom lives and Miller survives, having lost a leg or two and being confined to a wheelchair. Nothing is said about Anna having the kid, but its to be lightly implied.

The Menu screen for 2033 redux shows Anna chasing a kid around the room that is (probably) Artyom's office probably years down the line, recalling the events of the first Metro game.

The song is called "In The House - In A Heartbeat". It's the best song for survival/zombie/mutant horror, and is probably my #1 favorite song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_UFqw3vm0s

Another song which is similar to it is Wales from the World War Z soundtrack - in fact, most of the World War Z soundtrack is some kind of ripoff/remix/redo of the 28 Days Later soundtrack.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS3hxQ92Wxw

28 Days Later is also a good movie. If you haven't seen it yet, watch it and 28 Weeks Later. Both are solid movies. Not very /k/ related, but still. If you're unsatisifed by the first movie's ending, look up some trivia and the like - there's another ending if you look hard enough on the internet for it.

Bullshit, there's a guy who came from Britain somewhere in the metro, plus in the game there's a bonus level where your character has trekked quite a distance outside of moscow to loot a missile silo.

What this, is something that was alluded to in the lastest game, Last Light. When you go above ground in that level, an NPC remarks that the area above ground seems to be better than it used to be, with rain and sunlight. The NPC also remarks that people might not need gas masks soon.

True. But I think there is more potential with the Metro series than with STALKER. With STALKER you're limited to the 30km or whatever it is exclusion zone. Only so many ways you can swing that. And once you move outside of that or go elsewhere in the world it's no longer STALKER.

Not shit as in : better rendering engine not -99999fps inside any urban center

Loot system vastly improved, loot spawns in / refreshes based on types of loot being looted on the map. (If you pick up an AK in a tent, another military item will be queued to respawn somewhere on the map with that loot table)

Alot less arma 2 assets and code involved, game can reliably be played longterm without crashing. More rare guns to warrant running around for. Cars now, bikes and aircraft soon. Most cities redesigned.

Gameplay is still "rush loot, get geared af and feel like a boss, randomly get 1 shotted by a lucky newspawn"

I play with a dedicated 4 man fireteam so theres definitely a fun placebo to some extent.

The nuclear winter is turning into nuclear spring now. Snow's melting away and radiation beginning to subside, at least that's what they hint in Last Light.

Before, the weather, radiation, mutants, scavengers/ raiders/ warring factions and lack of supplies meant that it was basically impossible. Now it seems like it's not impossible anymore, or some major shit went down in the metro forcing everyone out.

Last Light had a bunch of DLC levels that allow you to play as random metro scenarios like a Reich heavy trooper minigunning the coomunists, Anna providing sniper support for artyom and so forth.

Tehy were all included in the Redux edition - if you go in the chapter select screen and click new missions it will show them up.

Really looking forward to that one, looks like they're gonna explore some heavy themes like human trafficking and school shootouts.

Out of curiosity is there anywhere I can read about police horror stories? As in, police raids where they find dead people plastered in the walls like in Sicario, or calls gone bad?

I agree there, fuck that girl who's like "bleh bleh Artyom I'm better than you even though you wiped out half a species and have killed countless bandits and mutants"

Then you save her just once and she gives it up in an instant.

I agree, you cunts shouldn't be allowed to post at all considering you feed blatant shill threads, even ones that capitalize board letters and follow the exact same format every single time.

Bethesda shit the bed this year. All that looks good is a new wolfenstein. They're doing paid mods btw. No new elder scrolls or fallout. Ace Combat is all I have to look forward to

I liked the multiplayer tanks in waw but looking back they seem kind of gimmicky

I wish they had done it like they had with united offensive's multiplayer back in the day, it had jeeps in addition to tanks.

SPOILERS
Not really because the zone has nothing to do with the NPP, it's all about the C-Consciousness. Which Strelok killed. And the zone is still there. And getting bigger and angrier.

Globalized zone is definitely happening.

Anyone have that link?

The best one is the semi open world one where you are hunting artifacts and have to buy new gear.

>>34246694
Because it's more readable than a lot of better modern literature, like Stephen King, Michael Chrichton, or Richard "That's Technically Gramatically Correct, But It Shouldn't Be" Preston, it acts like it takes thought, but it doesn't, and it looks good on the big screen.

They did have chairs though, just rubbish ones. The publisher guy was the new THQ president at the time, he wanted to buy them nice office chairs to replace their shitty folding chairs but they declined because they were sitting shoulder to shoulder in a tiny office and didn't have space for bigger chairs.
