Ford class - why?

I think there's two entirely separate issues here. Or maybe three.

First is the usefulness of the super-carrier in general. I haven't got a clue.

Then there's the issue of having all these new systems introduced all at once. I'm not sure it's such a bad idea really, at the moment at least. Sure, that one ship is most likely going to be delayed, expensive, and with a lot of Gremlins running around. But assuming you do want a future carrier force you'll need to update your tech at some point, so since WW3 isn't in full swing at the moment, maybe you may as well get it all out through the door in one go?

And finally regardless of how good or bad idea the ship is, the development and building can of course have been horribly mismanaged.

Assuming you are talking carriers in general, because technology moves forward so it makes sense for carriers to evolve and become more expensive. Did you ever consider the importance of carriers in the Pacific war?
