"Opération Harpie" is a french operation in French Guiana.

350 french soldiers and 200 gendarmes (military police) fight against illegal gold miners.

Aesthetic as fuck

Think of the fucking mosquitoes.
>>
I can't imagine needing that many soldiers against a couple of miners. What are armed with TNT and Henry rifles? Get this shit outa here.
>>
>>34225969
They probably are just standing guards and a couple of patrols, not an actual fighting force

Army? FFL?
How miserable was it?
>>
>>34226118
Were you in the FFL?

What were the most common issues you had to deal with? Were there lots of environmental related injuries like bug bites and the like? How long were you there? What was your living situation like when you weren't doing patrols or whatever else? Did you get free time to do anything cool?

Army.

Pros : discovering the jungle and southamerica. Raiding the brasilians and burning/breaking all of their stuff

Cons : the insects, the heat, the guard most of the time

Not FFL, 4 months there.

Common issues: bored, heat, insects.
I'd say around 10-20 guys got stung by scorpions or left with scars because of some weird flies.
Mostly sports or reading for my part.
We got free time while in the city, but not a great place, it's almost Brazil kind of insecurity.
Free time in the jungle, however, was really cool.

did you cull the local population while there?
>>
Living in a temperate climate I already hate summers because of all these insects everywhere. I can't even image how much it sucks somewhere in the south american jungle.
>>
>>34226309
Do you mean shooting them? If yes: there wasn't any fighting, only aiming or running at them, to arrest them
>>
>>34226322
Imagine not being able to sit on the ground because you'd get eaten by hundreds of ants or other stuff, and semi-closing your eyes all the time because flies want to drink in them...
After a week or two you are oblivious to mosquitos on you, though...

I was a combat medic in the US army that's why I'm curious. Did you have medics that went with you on each patrol or mission?

How do medics in the French army even work? Do you have medics attached to each platoon like in the US army that goes out with you or do you do more self and buddy aid until you can evac them to an aid station?
