Anyone ever tried dyeing their plastic furniture/mags with Rit dye? How did it turn out?

I dyed some tapco AK mags plum. It shrank the plastic slightly so the springs rub against the sides more. Might have an impact on reliability. If you're just doing grips and handguards it should be fine. I was happy with the result and it hasn't worn off after 2-3 years. I want to do another pistol grip, but if I had to do the mags again I would just spray paint them.
neat never heard of this stuff, i imagine its better to have light colored parts to begin with before using the dye, how will a black pmag dye yellow?

It won't. You'll need tan or FDE.

Op that actually looks quite nice.

Shameful

Well...it probably won't show up if you try for straight yellow from black. Try using bleach to lighten it a little first and then go straight into the Fit from there. It'll come out dark, but a very dark yellow.
Dyed a 40 round pmag purple. Still haven't shot it yet.

That's not how it works. You can't bleach the color out. The plastic has to be a lighter color, the lighter the better. You boil the water, add the dye, and the plastic absorbs the dyed water in its pores. The dye ends up under the plastic so even if you scratch it (lightly) the original color won't show.
Doesn't that weaken the plastic
