They are rated 300m which is actually nothing in the watch world.
Seals and gaskets are rather sensitive to temperature so you should avoid bath tub and showers.

Def less resistant than a g shock

not OP but watches that carry the "Divers ---m" mark have to meet a strict criteria set by ISO standards. One of which is temperature snap where they put the watch in hot water (~100c) and allow it to heat all the way through, and then immediately place it in water just above freezing point, allow it to cool all the way through and then place back in hot water again.

Its a diving watch like OPs pic related is a mechanical (automatic to be specific) watch and will go decades without needing service. As opposed to a g shock which, at minimum will need battery replacement every few years.

That being said, a diving watch is probably the best watch you're going to get with your money if all you need to do is tell the time and keep track of time using the bezel. Plus aesthetics you know?

Plus, most, if not all of you /k/ "operators" will never be in the situation where you need your watch to be pushed to the limit.

>They are rated 300m which is actually nothing in the watch world.
They are "Divers 300m" so they will actually be able to take those kinds of pressures. Moreover, what situation do you find yourself in that you need more than that? Recreational Diving Certifications only let you go down 40m...

>pic related, my diving watch.

One last note, Rolex submariners are actually extremely shock resistant, They're cheapest one is like 8 grand, and you arn't just paying for the name, they have the quality to match the price

Dude, one no 'operator' wears a Rolex. Expensive watches yes, but not Rolex's. Also, you cannot, and I stress cannot ever call yourself an operator. You are overweight in the extreme. The sole unifying trait from operators the world over is they are in peak physical condition, both in stamina and in strength. You must hit the gym religiously and seriously watch what you eat for a good long while before you can even think about calling yourself an operator.
>>
I mean, you can still laugh at OP and post your own watches. You can do both. Not like OP can delete his thread in any time.

Back in the old days, roughly end of ww2 and into the Cold War, Rolexes were used by operators, many were made for military diver and pilot contracts, and you can occasionally find milsurp rolexes. Tbh a watch is only as operator as the role it was designed for, the Vietnam disposable watches are operator, and so are the classic seikos and orients that were bought by troopers in Taiwan before heading to Nam, if you're employing the watch correctly and it isn't some shitty mall trash like diesel or something, it is an effective tool for operating.
>>
>>34223018

>>
>>34223528
ISO certification is largely considered to be a joke by the watch community. Also, you can go talk to any WIS on watchuseek and even Rolex fanboys will admit that a G-Shock is far more reliable and rugged than is the Rolex Sub. To compound it, an automatic movement is highly impacted by ambient temperature. So, if you're in need of a watch that can remain reliably synchronized with those of the other group members, then a G-Shock is-once again-your go-to watch. Admittedly the Navy issues Subs to their Frogmen back in the day but that is no longer a thing. Now Rolexes are simply over-priced wrist candy for flashy narcissists. Hell, they're not even the nicest watch in their price range. I would much prefer a Tudor Blackshield, Palagos, or any Panerai ever made.
>>
>>34223311
Are you retarded? The Submariner and Sea Dweller are both the diving watches from Rolex. Normal diving watches must be rated up to 200m according to ISO 6425. The Rolex Sea-Dweller is rated up to 1200m (a special model made it up to 3900m) and the Submariner up to 300m. Both equip COMEX commercial divers.

>>34223018
A Rolex isn't an operator watch. It's a luxury time piece worn by usually wealthy individuals or James Bond wannabes.

No it's not, it's about a third the price of the Rolexes you usually see, though you can get Rolexes in the same price range as the 1511. That being said, I don't like the way newer Rolexes look with the wider lugs and the old style of Rolexes haven't dropped in price enough to be worth buying in used condition since you can't really find them new anymore.
>>
>>34234259
Not him, but you're just pulling shit out of your ass. The weak point isn't the glass (which on watches like OP's is usually a sapphire lens, not glass), the weak point is the seams at which the parts mate. The "rating" is supposed to be a measure of how much pressure those seams can take before water leakage, not critical failure like glass breaking.

This guy's right. I'm trying to come across nicer than I normally do, so try to take this as constructive criticism. I want you to go to /fit/, read the sticky, dig deep for some motivation and get in shape.

The guys entrusted to handle critical tasks under extreme stress in hazardous environments of all kinds are more often than not, in top physical shape - and those that aren't are the ones on their way out the door (whether by retirement or by falling from that high standard). This goes for special operations forces members, SWAT personnel, professional rescue teams and firefighters. To imply yourself as being an operator without ever having been in the physical shape to earn that title doesn't insult anyone, everyone knows better; but it degrades the meaning when everyone refers to themselves with that title. Eventually, it will become diluted just like the term soldier, Marine, warfighter, veteran and many more.

I don't have mine right now nor do I have a picture because it is in for repairs, but I use a Seiko kinetic powered watch. It was my father's for quite a while. Survived saltwater from the Bahamas and beaches across the east coast, sitting in the grass lost for a year, and being hit with a weed wacker. It still worked, but I didn't trust nor like the way the glass looked, had a nice big ship in the top that is open to the face, and it's scratched up big time.

Also, I guess this is as good of a thread to post this on as any. My sis brought back something from her abroad studies in France as a a Christmas gift for me. She said she had gone in a small shop, trying to find some foreign military stuff, and had found a watch that was used by a soldier in WWI. The actual strap was put onto another, thicker strap to keep it together. I am unsure about its manufacture either, I don't even know if it is actually from that era, but it is still a nice gesture

That's why gud AKs and austrian tupperware are so popular.

It doesn't mean someone won't buy a temperamental weapon for fun, but most komrades are informed buyers.
>>
General suggestions: Casio g-shocks and seiko military. These two brands are fairly solid for operators who need dynamic tools to tell time operationally.

Victorinox are cheap watches with ETA movements and parts made in China, assembled in Switzerland so they can put the made in Switzerland on it. They are in the same category as Tissot, Certina, Festina, Mido, etc. If you really want a quality and classy watch get a Rolex, Omega, Tag Heuer, Breitling, Longines, Hublot, IWC, Jaeger-Le Coultre, or something like this. But they are all in a higher price category and they aren't meant for operating (they'll get scratched).

If you want a watch to operate, get a real operator watch like G-Shock/Pathfinder/Trek/Rangeman, Suunto Traverse, Garmin Tactix, or some diving watch with either a mate black finish or, even better, a watch cover.

Thanks guys.
I was looking for a new watch, after the battery of my G-Shock died last week; for the third time in 32(?) years.
Rangeman was top of the list and after this thread it'll be one.

I was a student at the time and this kind of watches was "in". If my memory serves me well I have paid roundabout 200 Deutschmark which would be 100 Euros.
Its date span went from 1972 until 2002. After that it started again on its own 01-01-1972. Now we have 1988 :-)

He's a faggot. ALL diving watches require yearly maintenance, which is basically changing the seals and making a pressure check. If you don't dive, you don't need it. I wore a Sector 850 Diver Chrono for almost 10 years. Never made a single service. One day humidity/condensation got in, and I had the choice between repairing it or buying a new watch.

only two watches I own that could be considered remotely operator or /k/ related, except my g-shock but everyone owns one of those

You don't need to take the Hannibal Ghaddafi model made from rose gold and with diamond all around the crown and with visible tourbillon. As all watches have different styles and people have different tastes. That's why I put a list.

im probably gonna get a Orient Ray Raven II for a beater watch but im not sure if they're 100% japanese made when checking the amazon price. Unlike the Seikos which i actually know which model is 100% made in japan. I have no idea about the orient.

Now, I don't claim to know any CAG or those squid swim dudes but I personally know a few and have worked with more than a few Rangers and Green Beanies Pretty much a Casio G-Shock etc is the watch de jour. Suunto watches were popular back in the 90's if memory serves.

No one is gonna take shiny multi thousand dollar wrist candy to some third world pisshole.

Were you born past 2000 or what?
For many it's simply a habit and as a kid you were told that it's improper to leave the house without a watch. Also you often got them as a present and as a bit of a symbol for taking responsibility. Like I got mine after my holy communion from my father to show me that I am a bit closer to being an adult now and have to take more responsibilities.

Are watches really that uncommon with you and your social err ... bubble?

The reason rolexes are "operator" watches is more tradition than anything. Coming from navy frogmen in the us and Europe back before seals were a thing. They were issued rolex dive watches. Dive watches were and still are useful for diving. I dive with my orange monster all the time. Not as useful as a dive computer, but I just dive to look at fish and stuff. So a good dive watch is cool. Lots of old school guys still wear submariners on nato bands.

>>34245781
That's a watch for women. MEN are supposed to engage in risky activities like cave explorin' or diving.
