I'm checking out a knife maker on etsy. These lines on the spine of his blade remind me of stress fractures but there's dozens of them and they're tiny. Is this a shitty blade?

Nah just looks like grind lines where they didn't clean it up enough

Same blade. Looks warped to me but maybe I'm just looking for reasons to not like it.

Really damn hard to tell from that photo
Thing with a chisel grind is that that it does have a slight appearance of tapering off to one side

Google "Damascus."

but what is aleppo
>>34222780
It's pattern welded steel.
Or as it is commonly known "damascus steel".
>>34222780
those lines came from the grinder
dude sucks at finishing his work

A Leppo is an equipment rental company
>>34222870
This is pattern welded shit steal.
This is not Damascus.
The OP is also referring to the shitty grind marks where the "blacksmith" hogged out the edge.
>>34222830
Id hate it simply because of the pattern welded shit. The shit steal and good steal are criss crossed along the cutting edge which makes some of it soft and soft of it hard and the entire thing sharpens like a sponge.

Most pattern welds I've done used 15N20 and 1095, they're both relatively tough STEEL on their own and stick together like shit on a blanket
