Which of these blades is better for a fight?
>>34221250
"for a fight" the Kabar
for an assassination the fairbairn sykes

develop your hypothesis. Why is one better than another for those tasks?

Not him, but...
I guess what he means by "for a fight" is close quarter combat gone desperate. Like WW1 style trench fighting dirty. No time to think where you're gonna shove the blade, Kabars are good for that. They got a nice sturdy blade to both stab and cleave.
As for the assassinations, Fairbairn is more precise and ideal for eliminating targets quietly and quickly rather than a straight up fight.
Of course, training plays a big part in this and both can do the other's jobs, but just not ideally.
Here's some videos.

>FS knife
Better at piercing a kraut's chest through three layers of clothing with minimal pressure.
>Kabar
Literally everything else
>>34221250
Well, the Ka-Bar craves up a whale's rotting corpse pretty efficiently. Does nothing against the smell though.
Ka-Bar purely because of the grip. Hammer grip is more secure in frantic 200%-effort fight to the death. FS was shaped for the less-secure sabre grip
>>34221250
FS knife ! For 1vs1 fight only. The Kabar isnt a pure fighting knife. Its heavy for wood splitting, open things...
FS knife for stealth missions
Ka-Bar for utility and general combat
both can be used for either mission with varying degrees of effectiveness.
also take into account how long you will need it for and what youll need it to do
FS knife would be good for quick in and out missions where you would use is strictly for knifing some cunt
Ka-Bar would be more suited to high stress long duration mission where you need it to not break and to be able to effectively chop through shit
basically it goes like this
FS knife: +10 precision +2 weight +4 speed
Ka-Bar: +10 durability +4 weight -2 speed
>>34221394
If you are sneaking up on someone and slitting/stabbing them in the throat while they sleep, it absolutely does not matter what kind of blade you use. Even a sharpened piece of scrap metal would do.
Therefore the KA-BAR is objectively the superior design.
>>34225165
the goal behind the FS knife is speed balance and precision.
sure you could use a peice of glass, but if you have to 1v1 someone or quickly and quietly off someone the FS knife would be the best tool for such
>>34221250
Fairbairn sykes is a better knife in a fight because it's a dagger, the double edged design makes it ideal for stabbing with ease.
The Kabar however is poorly designed for such things.

What are you idiots basing all these conclusions on, aside from video games and videos with fucking Gunny Ermey?
The FS has a better blade shape for stabbing, it's also more rigid and more likely to go through thick clothing or body armour. It's a fucking dagger, it's made for stabbing cunts. The grip on the FS is more angular, so you can feel blade alignment easier, and it's also better shaped for... you guessed it... stabbing cunts. It's shaped like a lot of medieval daggers. Medieval people perfected the art of stabbing cunts.
The KABAR is shaped more like an utility knife. The handle is large and round, pretty shit for fighting with, but comfortable to work with, tires the hand less. The clip point is useful for all sorts of jobs like opening lids, carving shit, and so on. It's not quite as good for going into people, though it's a knife with a crossguard so it'll stab cunts just fine too. The Kabar is meant to resemble the basic outline of a bowie knife, for that "classic American weapon" vibe, but it's only superficial. The bowie is better made for cutting and stabbing, while the kabar doesn't excel at either.
One is a dedicated weapon while the other is an all purpose knife.

This is standard internet bullshit. Look up Fairbairn's own instructions on how to use his knife. He uses both point up and point down grips.

Running away
Knife fights almost always result in both parties dead or just about.

story?
My father passed this down to me, my grandfather apparently traded something for it when he was serving in ww2. Is there anyway I can tell if its real or identify it better (were there different productions?)
>>34228439
Looks like a third pattern m8.
Markings are usually on the underside of the guard.
>>34226933
>it's also more rigid and more likely to go through thick clothing or body armour
Yet FS were known for being weak and snapping easily.

It's literally not going to fucking matter which sharp object you stab someone in the throat with.
>>34226933
Because round handles are great for edge alignment

its to worn, I looked really hard, the pommel has definitely been used to smash some stuff and the blade has nicks
this isnt 70 year old dried kraut blood is it?
>>34230442
Looks fake desu, like it's one piece of drop forged steel.
>>34230479
its definitely not one piece, the blade and handle are separate, it has a tang running through

Absolutely nothing better for cutting the hands off thieves or gathering your necklace of fingers. 10/10 would commit war crimes with.
How can you even compete?
