Retarded old fudds who, instead of doing what the spaghettis did with their Garands, or adopting the superior FAL or G3, decided to adopt a completely new rifle that worked great when it first came into being, but shit the bed when mass production came into play. Thank God Stoner and Sullivan came along with the superior AR-15 design.

G3 hit the ground around the same time as the M14, so it was equally unproven at the time.
FAL had been around 5 years back then. They did test it and the M14 won out but the US government armory was known to be biased in favour of their own design.

I suppose it's to be expected. They wanted an improved Garand and that's what the M14 is. That makes sense since it's a somewhat familiar platform to a huge group of military planners who just finished fighting ww2 with Garands. Besides which countries always have a natural bias for weapon systems developed locally, it's a point of national pride and the M14 is by far not the only or worst case.

In fact compared to the FAL it's not objectively worse. The FAL got around more, but the M14 did better with accuracy, has great sights, both have good ergonomics and fared about the same under adverse conditions.

Now if only they paid more attention to what the Italians were doing with the BM59s, they could have saved a lot of money by recycling M1 receiversand they would have had a handier yet plenty capable, reliable and accurate BR.

The one thing the A1 is suboptimal for is super cramped quarters, and we should be clearing buildings with grenades and artillery anyways.

Because we could reuse tooling for Garands to make them and have minimal fuckery on them.

And then we decided to add a short stroke gas piston system, use a different (shorter) cartridge, and make it use box mags.
Why?
Because.
The FAL had all that shit but we couldn't use Garand tooling to make FALs.
So we improvised and we're biased and cheap as fuck.
Same reason that the M16 had so many teething problems.
The same reason pretty much everything we've adopted has had teething problems quite frankly.
I expect we'll be hearing bitching about how we should have kept our old berettas quite soon because they jammed less or some stupid shit that boils down to us being cheap motherfuckers.

With modern weapons and target acquistion systems.the rubble doesn't help like it used to. WWII bombers were horribly inaccurate and their bombs pathetic. In nation-state war with the gloves off you can empty a B-52 or B-1 onto your objective and it will be dead, not jusk rubble. WWII tanks were tiny and weak, WWII artillery wasn't very accurate, and while Katyushas are still a viable concept Grads and MLRS bring it to a new level.

The trick is to destroy the city while killing resupply, then bombard as you go.

Russia figured this out in Grozny but doesn't have the air assets the US does. They now have large thermobaric bombs ideal for urban warfare. The US has MOAB and should use it at night to avoid propaganda photography (and surprise the shit out of the target).

How many here have combat experience with both systems? Nothing you do as a civilian larper matters. It doesn't teach the lessons of war. G.I.s who live with their weapons and use them erryday in combat know what works by empirical proofs of USING systems. Your little tactifag larping isn't war. War is war.
