I enjoy Ian's channel but he comes off SO fucking much like one of those tryhards who never joined the military (for whatever reasons), so he always has to compensate with his "superior knowledge". Karl too slightly, but Ian even more so. On this episode of; we stuff mud into chambers of guns and they don't work for some reason.

A more realistic test would be firing a bunch of rounds without cleaning or firing a bunch of rounds with the gun being slightly sandy but that isn't youtube material.

That's expected of any gun, even the much maligned 1911 is easily capable of running with carbon and a little grit in it, when built as a service weapon of course, not a lightly sprung double stack .40 cal unlimited race gun.

Point being we already know what guns can do that.

I feel like the internet takes these way more seriously than Ian and Karl intended.

As in, they make these videos because they generate a lot of traffic, they're lighthearted fun, and I assume they enjoy sharing the experience with us.

The internet turns around and takes the videos and uses them to spew vitriol, usually at a brand that doesn't give a shit about the criticism in the first place or other random people on the internet for relatively little reward.

I used to very heavily shoot IDPA, 3-Gun, and all that. Tens of thousands of rounds through many different makes all 9mm and have some contacts in the industry.

Gen3 Glock 17/34s are the only ones that tend not to have issues, but general QC has been down since the Gen4 introduction. Even Gen4s are cracking slides at 1/3 of normal lifespan. Otherwise, their durability is great, and the biggest advantage is the drop-in parts to fix any issues.

The only pistols that I would say are uber reliable are the Beretta 92s and H&K USP/P30s. Sig Sauers used to be great, but they have taken a huge dive, and I bet the M17 will be a fucking shitshow for the first 5-10 years of deployment.

I left my 19 in a creek for about 10 minutes once to see what would happen. Tons of silt got in it and it totally killed the gun. Similar to what happened here. Had to hammer on the back of the slide to get it to go into battery. Managed to get a few shots off (hammering every time) but felt like I was breaking something.

Washing it out in the creek didn't fix it, had to take it home and detail strip it. Runs normally now.

I did my SGL-31 at the same time and it shut it down, but after manhandling it enough it got back running without washing it out in the creek.

Considering that Ian shoots competition and carries a fucking Glock, I doubt he's biased against it.

The point of these mud tests is that different guns do well in this whereas they might fail other reliability tests, and vice versa. The AK/AR videos are prime examples on this. The AK is an open design with loose tolerances, it might do well to get solid debris out of the action, or parts of the action will work regardless of a blockage, but when you introduce fine mud into the gun the open design and loose tolerances mean the gun will fail to function. AR is a very sight and sealed system and will function well in this fine mud whereas it may fail in sand or other environments. Ian and Karl do have their biases obviously, Ian is a Francophile and Karl is a bit of a Wehraboo but that doesn't discount the validity of these tests. Both of them - Ian especially, own a wide variety of guns and shoot competitions with a wide variety of guns. It's not like they have a personal emotional stake in the matter like a lot of autists and even normies do.
>>
>>34218671
They even mentioned in the RDB mud test that it's a bullshit test because anything is going to fail if you cram clay into an open action. The only things that will do well are things where mud can't access the action, like an AR dust cover or you know... Any handgun because there shouldn't be openings into the action. The glock failing this test is inexcusable. That was an irreparable malfunction that would put you out of the fight. Something with a sealed action shouldn't do that. Glockfags indeed btfo.
>>
>>34221209

Dude, I've had so many out of spec Glock extractors during the switch to MIM it was unreal.

I will say in Glock's defense the G43 is one of their best pistols, and I think the Gen5/Ms are going to be actual upgrades over the Gen4s since upscale G43s.
>>

You don't need to be in the military to put a machine in mud. All striker-fire pistols are inferior to DA/SA in mud/gunk just by design.

I still cary a glock, because I like it.

Not out of any sort of fanboyism. That shit meme has perpetuated this board from /v/ crossovers for years. I'm sure there are a few anons who are still really new and have maybe only purchased an HD/CC gun. But yes, I'm speaking for myself and thousands of others.... generally people who have been shooting for more than a few years or a decade own/owned multiple brands of pistol. The same flavor of tactical will get boring, Glocks are just tools nothing more nothing less. It's still the most tested/true tool for the job
>>
>>34223229

>Not out of any sort of fanboyism.
Again are you fucking sure?

And even if a glockfag would own another gun like a target pistol or a rifle, it still doesn't detract from his glockfaggyness. Because he will still place the Glock on a pedestal.

I find them a standard workhorse pistol. People rice em, but most of my friends and family who one (Mainly 19 and 17s, my uncle has a G36 for CC) don't really flash em out and race em up. They simply work in most general day to day urban duty situations.

Well Glocks should be on a pedestal, nothing is time tested or proven all around as decent. It's mostly their ease of maintenance, it's the only pistol you can truly fix yourself with little to no tooling, and a fuck load of after market goodies. SIG will catch up but it won't detract from all of Glocks contracts worldwide, not to mention what there actual proper next generation stuff will be, if it ever happens

Will they ever do a test with actual muddy ground? this is mud you could swim in. realistically, any AR exposed to this type of mud would get more that just mud shovel onto the reciever. if it got into the muddy water, it would be in danger of exploding if you tried to shoot it.

No they shouldn't, there is nothing besides the modular design that the Glock has over any other double stack handgun of it's day.

Like I said no other striker weapon is time tested nor barely even field tested like the Glock 19/17. And the easy to exchange parts/modularity are what put it on the pedestal. Nobody has done it all around better yet, Sig might but the jury is gonna be out for awhile on that. You Glock contrarians are worse than us "fanboys".

Well you might have to lowcrawl, or you could simply trip and fall but it shouldn't be as dirty as they videos and of course you'd immediately knock as much mud away from the action/receiver as possible
>>
>>34223312

>Like I said no other striker weapon is time tested nor barely even field tested like the Glock 19/17
Because that is irrelevant when all of them are pretty much the same gun underneath all the polymer and marketing. It's like going back a century ago and trying to figure out which European small bore cartridge revolver is better or which 32 acp pocket pistol is better. When all it's said and done there is no real difference between them.
>>
>>34223340
That is definitely relevant. It takes time to see if some platforms or weapon systems have any known inherent flaws to them. Not sure what striker fired is your go to exactly but they're all really fucking new compared to Glock. Half of these assclown just started mfg them within the last 6-7 years. They aren't all the same, Glock is time tested, has easiest maintenance, largest surplus of aftermarket, affordable parts, generally most reliable (besides autists baking it in mud)... We're talking about overall here to include combat roles. None of these new striker fires have seen any combat or harsh conditions.

The recently published Mud Test: Glock 19 video has been incredibly huge in regards to shares and views in a very short duration of time, more so on Facebook than even YouTube. Full30, of course, was barely a blip on the radar. It has been the fastest growing video in regards to views and shares that we've ever had.

So, with this huge volume of shares and views and comments, we'd think we'd see a some uptick in something like subs or Patreon supporters, right?

Nope. In fact, per YouTube analytics, it generated us 14 subscribers as of today.

There has been a huge uptick of stupid comments, though.

So, while it's still very early in regards to statistics as the video only published a few days ago, here's a question for you guys as our core (again):

If InRangeTV were monetized via ad revenue then the lesson here would be to do nothing but mud tests on the most controversial items possible for the rest of time. Thankfully that is NOT our model. While I certainly do find some of these mud test videos interesting, I also think it's usually (with exceptions) our least intellectually interesting content.

This video is the canary in the coal mine example, in my opinion, of why advertising fueled mass media is what it is.

What do you guys think?

just another example of the tremendous foresight of the glock's engineering solutions. the back plate is plastic and can be easily torn off even with just a swiss army knife, releasing the striker and enabling you to take the gun apart now without pulling the trigger. the plastic plate is a 1$ part. Eh... I think the SIG thing is overplayed. The majority of their issues are new models or spring related. The newer guns are much better made on CNC equipment compared to the older guns. Don't buy Gen 1 and get some extra springs. The glocks seem to be worse in construction of frame or slide which isn't a quick fix. I don't see many HKs in competition but I still see plenty of glocks and SIGs.

Quit being a glock hater hater, fgt.

Yeah its not a big deal, and anything part of a huge military contract seems to have some problems. Beretta did too.

It takes some time to "marine proof" anything. No matter how good it is, some marine will cover it in Elmer's glue and eat it.

Not a knock to the marines, just an observation.

"über" reliable beretta 92 ok... how about locking blocks 3rd generation now? Its a part that has a limited lifespan of around 10.000 rounds according to them... which was less in previous itinerations of the model...

Sure they are reliable but that part fucks them up and its a critical component.

Glocks are ubiquos is a fine firearm as much as anyother in the market today at taht price range period

Gen 3 vs Gen 4 debate is unfunded there is no clear evidence of that. I trust your word and experience but we cannot make a rule out of it.

I've never seen so much damage control in my life.

All those years of Glockfags crucifying people for not sucking Gaston's dick.

All the "Get a G19" responses.

All the "Muh LEO/SF/Ranger/SEAL" arguments.

Glocks are good pistols, but this shows they are about as good as any other pistol in the price range.

So uh, you want barrel blockage videos? Because every single gun ever designed will blow up if a severe enough blockage forms lad
>>
>>34240929
Not a Hipoint c9. On a Iv8888 video they hammered a 3/8" bolt down the breach and the gun didn't kaboom. The bolt stayed in place, gun was still intact.

Pretty well shows multiple Gen 4s going tits up with slide cracks early in their life while Gen 3s have no issue. Also Beretta did very well with regular maintenance.

>I can tell you that even though I am not a "Glock guy", it is the most reliable handgun in our inventory and I would trust it with my life.
>We use Gen1-Gen4 17's on the line and they are the most hassle-free handgun we have.
>[When the slide cracks, they] will continue to fire most of the time but the rounds group at the top right corner of the target.
>The factory recoil springs are amazing because the just keep going.
>The Glock gets used probably 10X as much as our Beretta M92's so it's not a fair to say the Beretta is more reliable[...]
>[...]Glock will replace our cracked slides under warranty.
>Also, I don't meant to give the impression that breake slides all the time but it would be fair to say that they get at least 100,000 rounds before cracking.
Wow, it's fucking nothing.
Even the "early" Gen4 slide failures mentioned later in the thread were happening over 30k rounds in; i.e., after $6500 or more of ammo.
If you're shooting that much, you can afford to have a spare Glock to shoot while the oter one's in for warranty work and, moreover, you can reasonably expect to break in one way or another any gun that you choose to adopt.
Are you, by chance, a journalist?

You could just say "huh, that's interesting" and move on or you could get totally butthurt and try to do damage control, making yourself look like a fool.

I see you chose the latter.

>Hurr durr glockfags btfo. I left my Glock in a septic tank for a week and it malfunctioned. Guess my **insert special snowflake gun of the month here** is better.

When would anyone ever encounter this sort of situation? Glocks can run fine dirty, but there's a limit. You can pretty much make any gun fail. Thanks but I'll stick to my personal experience of Glocks running flawlessly the vast majority of the time.
>>
>>34245422
The point of this test is that it shows that Glocks are about as good as most striker fired pistols near the price range.

Not necessarily a diss on Glock, but more of the fanboys who won't shut the fuck up about them. Cool your jets.
