I've got a SIG Sauer M400E that I tossed a Seekins Precision free float keymod rail onto like 5 years ago. I don't shoot my AR that often, and I've grown to like the A1 and A2 style of AR platform more and more.
I might sell off my high speed low drag AR to swap it for an older style one. I really want to find an A1 style AR, but it's tough to find one sub $1500. Any recommendations for an A1 or A2 style AR? I've been looking at Windham Weaponry's A2 model, and for $800, it's a pretty good price.
Thoughts?

See if you can find an old used Colt SP1, one that isn't being sold to cuckstates like CT as a pre-ban (where they command a special premium). Otherwise they seem to hover at around $800 for a decent condition one.
A lot of the SP1s didn't have forward assists, some did, but that's a relatively easy fix (just get an A1 upper).
Despite lacking the forward assist, near all of the SP1 rifles will have the serrations for them on the bolt carrier.
They will have either a pronged flash hider or a birdcage, this was the case on the actual issued A1 rifles as well.
The lower will probably be unfenced.
