I have a friend who thinks that he can manufacture a working c93 replica. He plans to use a cheap dermal, $50 drill press, a $150 stick welder and, cheap steal. My question is. can this work?. also he claims it will be super easy. (I almost forgot to mention he has no experience welding, using a drill press or even putting together a parts kit).
>>34201506
hardest part will be the barrel if he plans to go all the way.
Where are the blueprints he's building from?
>>34201506
It can work. The question is, can it work well or safely? The answer is no.
How does he plan to making the leaf spring for that mecanism, it is very difficult.
>>34201506
apart from cheap steel, it could work. just tell him to work very slowly
>>34201506
Enough with these troll threads
>>34201506
Why hasn't anyone reproduced this beuatiful gun?
Seriously why? Modern cnc machining mean it wouldn't be expensive to make.
>>34201521
I have no idea every time the subject comes up he mentions the super easy MP-18 replica that will come after it.
>>34201558
I wish he wasn't serious about this. He is one of those DIY freaks "muh dremel" - friend.
>>34201506
>can this work?
Technically yes. It's not impossibe.
However: no fucking way. I'd bet money he gives up within an hour of dremel touching steel.
>>34201506
Is he gonna sell it for under $200 ($199)? That is, if IWI doesn't get him first!
>>34201553
He mentioned something about buying an assorted flat spring set
>>34201506
Has he ever made anything before?
>>34201654
He is a poorfag and unfortunately he would probably jump on the opportunity to sell that pending lawsuit
>>34201654
10 points to Gryffindor
>>34201784
Cheap Furniture about less than six tables and he did some very minor work on my c308(clipping and pinning a g3 lower) I'm afraid that started this whole mess.>>34201784
>>34201561
>Modern cnc machining mean it wouldn't be expensive to make
No.
>>34201561
No market. Personally, if someone could reproduce one for, say, 1000 dollars I'd be all over it. But, reality sucking as usual, it would probably cost who knows how much. You'd have to start from the ground up and have an original to examine, ideally. And how many could you sell?
>dremel
>stick welder
>drill press
>>34201868
It's obscure enough you can't even pretend there's a market. This isn't the stg44 or luger or something. It's not even the c96.
>>34201919
My other friend and I when we talk about this subject.
>>34201845
He should start out making simple firearms before he tries something as complicated as an automatic pistol. I don't think he will make it very far before he gives up, but i hope he does it would be extremely cool. Has he done any research on it?
>he has no experience welding, using a drill press or even putting together a parts kit
You answered your own question here.
>>34202064
To my knowledge no, he thought about it and other firearms he plans to produced and then started searching for the cheapest drill press and stick welder he could find. I don't want to seem like a dick and I think it's a cool idea too, but after he went on about doing complicated Shit he lost me. His first plan was blow back .308 chauchat.
>>34202127
>one of the most retardedly complex guns ever made
>"I want to make a Chauchat by myself lol"
>>34201506
Fuck off David. I said c96 not c93 try listening for once!
>>34202912
Would it make any difference if it were a c96 though?
>>34201845
Encourage him
Start him out on a shotgun design
>>34201506
your friend needs to shoot himself
>>34202960
I'll try to do that.
>>34201654

does he have a dog?

>Why hasn't anyone reproduced this beuatiful gun?
Because this
>why doessnt some1 make this (extremely rare and niche interest) as a repro???
>small company takes the dive and does it
>wow wtf y so expansive???????????
You see this shit everywhere.
>people masturbate over a repro STG44 for years
>HMG does it although it isn't 100% but still can use 8mm Kurz
>wow fuck that lmao
>smg guns does it with the FG42
>wow fuck that too expensive lmao
>there's a repro webley but most people here would never dare to buy one
And now, we're seeing it with ATI's MP40 9mm repro after countless people ""wished"" for it to be made. They don't understand that there is a cost behind getting such a project into fruitition and don't have the commitment to see it through.
Not everything is a $600 AR. Just because a gun was made with something affordable such as stamping (AR18/MP5/STG44) doesn't mean it would be cheap to make nowadays.
My literal dream gun is a stoner 63 and the only reason why I would never get a Robinson M96 is because the owner is a dick and spare parts for it have to be acquired by contacting/dealing with the owner, who is a fucking dick.
he should at the very least least get a hobby milling machine. I could definitely see someone with a decent brain and a milling machine building one of these in his garage.
>>34203525
The ati is cheap plastic shit tho
could you cast parts?

>>34203613
OP's other friend reporting in, this is him exactly.
>>34203611
Trust me he can't afford to do it, but i'm pretty sure someone with the money might be able to make it work
>>34203613
This.
You don't know what you don't know.
>>34201506
If chinese people in the 20's could do it, your friend probably can knock off c96 too.
>>34204325
rare Chinese wauser
>>34201506
High tolerance parts can be problem but since you make grant total of one you will have to hand fit each and every part.
Just make sure you use proper grade steel you dont have live grande in your hands.
If he's planning to use equipment that shitty he's too stupid to do it right.
>>34201561
>Modern cnc machining mean it wouldn't be expensive to make.
HAH.
>>34201570
To be honest a open bolt sub gun is probably easier to make.
>>34201506
be honest. are you the friend?
>>34201506
He'd be better off building a Luty or a STEN, hes not going to get a working C93 with a hobbyist's setup like that.
>>34201561
Because they would be like $3,000.
Low production for a small market. Not to mention you would have to either source original dimensioned drawings (probably not possible) or reverse engineer your own.
>>34201506
the japs used to make C93 (non-shootable) replicas
they are very nice ones too
>>34201570
tell the fgt to do the "easy" build first so he can see how much work it actually is
>>34203525
> the owner is a dick
Can someone give me the scoop on that? I don't know much about Robinson Arms except they make the XCR and a Stoner copy in the past
>>34203525
>>HMG does it although it isn't 100% but still can use 8mm Kurz
It only vaguely looks like a StG.
>SMG FG-42
SMG has always been a small, expensive historical repro and parts kit group
>>34203525
>HMG stg44
The original stg44 was also expensive to make at the time. If only they had put in the extra effort to make it actually LOOK like an stg44 maybe it wouldn't be so hated.
>smg guns FG42
Again, that was expensive to make even during WWII, so it'll be expensive to make now, especially when its made by a niche company
>>34206450
>It only vaguely looks like a StG.
>>34206833
>If only they had put in the extra effort to make it actually LOOK like an stg44 maybe it wouldn't be so hated
this is what autistic children on the internet actually shitpost
>>34206865
Oh boy here we go.
>>34206401
The guns had various non-inconsequential issues like barrel nuts loosening on their own during fire (prompting people to loctite their barrel nuts on). Alex Robinson would join forums like CGN himself and would get really defensive. Many a flame war.
The guns are reportedly much better after all the revisions, but being used as beta testers and then being berated for having issues by the owner of the company left a sour taste in their mouths.
Pretty sure he got banned from SHOT, also.
>>34205377
Not probably, definitely. A highschooler in shop class could make a sten
>>34201506
No, it's not.
Anybody in this thread that tells you otherwise is taking the piss.
>>34206057
Could you take one of those replicas and make it shootable?
>>34203525
>repro Webley
More info?!?
>>34210666
Made by a fine gunsmith in the UK they are crazy fucking expensive. Its a 7 shot 357. Only 50 are made per year and they start a $10,000.
https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/a-new-british-made-handgun-the-return-of-the-webley-shot-show-2016/
>>34211386
Holy fug, I can't afford that. feelsbadman.jpg
Thanks for the info though mate
>>34207739
Well thats a pretty big no bueno. I'll be sure to read up more on the guy, thanks anon.
>>34211386
Woah nigga thats more than many people's entire gun collection. A 7 shot Webley in .357 sounds pretty gucci though. Better start saving my pennies for one after an MR73 I want so bad.
>>34207739
>>34212073
And to add to that anon's post:Some customer service lady that worked with Robinson apparently left after she realized he was a huge asshole as he treated her like shit, she wrote about this iirc
>>34201654
>when you decide to compete with highpoint but can't because you are delusional
That would be great, but I don't believe it.
>>34201506
He's going to give up unless he has an actual milling machine and a lathe for the barrel. Trying to use a dremel on steel to machine precise channels is a fool's errand, and trying to use an end mill in a drill press is a surefire way to fuck up the chuck and spindle since they aren't desinged to sustain lateral forces.
>>34201506
let us know when he finally realizes hes an idiot for trying this
