ITT tip with fighting with a fire fighter axe?
>>
hit them with the metal end
>>
>>34196112
Easier said than done.

Are there HEMA treaties regarding axe fighting?
>>
>>34196117
Yes.

Place your hands on the wood end and hit them with the metal end.
>>
>>34196120
But you ain't fighting doors, you are fighting humans who can dodge.
>>
>>34196125
Hit human with metal end.

fighting axe is actually a lot lighter than chopping axe

tase them and then beat the shit out of them with a lead pipe
>>
>>34196162
True, but you can fight with both all the same.
>>
>Heavy
>Unwieldy
>Need two hands to use
>Need to wind up for predictable swings
>Need to have supporting hand halfway up the handle, reducing range
>A person can just stay in your face to be out of the danger range

Shit weapon.

>>34196231
Or you are just shit at it m8.

thats the gayest axe i've ever seen
>>
>>34196125
Never swing down, swing upwards diagonally so that the weight of the axe carries you for a follow up swing.
Vikings fought like this with their axes and I'd assume the same would apply. Swing axe from lower right to upper left, weight falls, swing axe from lower left to upper right, weight falls, etc.

is this what dudes do when they fail at being a cop or joining the army? i dont get it
>>
>>34196109
They are a very bad melee weapons because they weight a lot, has shitty balance, and you need to hit your enemy with the steel head in a with the blade forming straight angle if you don't want it to slip.

Use a gun axe instead
Shoot at them with the bullit part
Then use the chopping part afterwards to guarantee it

Probably? I know that spade bayonets were a thing for some nations's pioneer units back in the age of flintlock. But they sucked ass, because it's still just a rifle with a shitty excuse for a shovel stuck on the end of it.
>>
>>34196811
Better to just have a separate axe eh?

Bayonet isn't all good when shit counts either, fucking entrenching tool was more useful.

They are called polearms and yes the were the main weapon for a quite long time.
>>
>>34196109
Remove the axe head. Now you have a fast and hard hitting two handed wood club
>>
>>34196109
It depends. What are you fighting? a fire or a manbearpi?
>>
>>34196289
No, for me (different anon) it's a good way for a college kid to make money. It's seasonal, and looks good on a resume. Good pay depending on who you work for.
>>
>>34196125
Who says he isn't fighting doors?
>>
Dude I searched for "axe fighting" on youtube and got dozens and dozens of relevant hits. I suggest you watch those vids first and then YOU tell US how to fight with an axe.
>>
>>34196289
It's much harder to become a firefighter than a cop. Wildland firefighters can be a bunch of kids and nobodies, they don't even get or know how to use scba's. Seasonal? wildland, simple to get in and leads nowhere. Try getting sponsored by any city, try getting into a real fire academy. Try getting hired on to any city, good fucking luck.
>>
>>34196761
>>34196900
Bayonet locks are not actually very good at transmitting the kind of force that a sideways impact generates. Late 19th century had Yatagan or Cleaver bayonets, but they didn't prove very useful.

Look at the halberds btw. and compare the blade attachment to a spear socket. Halberds were built sturdy for a reason.

Take the axe head off and throw it at someone, you'd be better off with a plain old club unless you're anticipating fighting dudes in chainmail armor or some shit.
>>
>>34199819
Bad idea.

A club hit is damaging, an axe head hit is devastating.
>>
>>34196117
Yes
But by axe they are talking about a poleaxe, not a stubby heavy two handed axe that isn't designed as a weapon.

Just don't try to baseball bat swing it.
>>
>>34200110
A poleaxe is heavier than this though.

>>34200145
And is long
Using a short axe like a poleaxe is doable but not ideal
>>
>>34200145
Weight isnt as big of a factor as center of mass. Yes, overall weight is still a major factor though.

A firefirghter's axe center of mass is near the head. That means it takes a lot of energy to get it moving and to stop it from moving from the handle, it also makes it unweildly as a weapon.

Only heavy maces/warhammers will have this sort of weight balance and they too are slow and unweildly.

Most melee weapons are balanced more towards the wielder so that they can be quickly swung and redirected and committing to a blow doesn't completely take you off balance or open you up significantly to attack.
>>
>>34196827
not him but I have no idea what it is. Been here years. Not everyone reads the video game threads or plays the same games as you
>>
>>34200175

A solid club hit will win the fight, not to mention it's much much faster than an axe.
>>
>>34202376
A single glance of the axe head can be devastating unlike the club hit.
>>
>>34200175
>>34200229
same, never heard of it. This is /k/, we have maybe one video game thread going at a time, and this isn't it. So why would you expect someone to know some game when this is a board for weapons and firearms
>>
>>34196109
Remember that the head aint the only part of the ax. Also that its unbalanced and awkward to use and you likely be better off with a wooden stick
>>
>>34203342
A wooden stick cannot be dubbed as a tool.

inb4 muh cane
>>
>>34203198
You don't need to royally fuck someone up in order to win a fight.
>>
>>34196109
The modern fire-axe is tool, not a weapon. That is, while you can cause
serous damage with the axe, the tool is so heavy and slow to use that it
is difficult to hit a moving target. The weight makes it also difficult
to block attacks, change the direction of a strike and recover from
strike.

It is possible to fight with this kind of heavy axe by keeping the axe
constantly in motion, using horizontal "figure-eight" pattern and
driving your opponent with continuous attacks. IIRC, weapons historian
Peter Woodward addressed this in History Channel TV show "Conquest - The
Axman Cometh". Parts of that show can still be found in Youtube.
>>
>>34196109
Use continual circular motions. Recycle inertia as much as possible. The axe hits like a truck but feels about as heavy.
>>
>>34196109
Use the sharp side.
>>
>>34196757
That head is fit on so poorly it just makes the entire thing shit

For single combat:
Halberd > Other pole weapons > Longsword > Short sword > A FUCKING STICK no seriously, a fucking stick > a fire axe

a fucking stick

you will lose, 100% of the time, to a quarterstaff

A FUCKING STICK

Also there's a lot of useless mass there, as if a flint lock gun isn't already heavy enough.

What I'd do is grip with the right hand down at the knob and the left hand just below the head and wield it rather like a rifle/bayonet. thrust with the top of the head, parry or bash with the handle and buttstroke with the knob. I wouldn't try and use a proper axe swing until I had the other guy open and unbalanced or better yet, flat on the floor. Though of course if I could slice him open with the toe of the bit when I thrust or hook him with the spike so much the better.
