oh, ideally i'd like to pay between 100-200 dollars.
Are revolvers realistic self defense weapons? i know .22 is good for target practice since I think the rounds are cheap, would they also work fine for self defense? I'm not trying to use the bullet that kills the hardest or anything, just a deterrent for anyone that tries to step up to me

Holy shit read the sticky

This. Shit is what, $300 now with the rebate? You're not going to get much else of comparable quality at that price.

I looked at some local places, a lot of handguns seem to go for 150-250 dollars. Is that a normal price range or is anything I buy at 150-250 guaranteed to be bad quality and untrustworthy?

This. Hi point is a surprisingly good for it's price.

Just checked their pistols out, holy crap they are so ugly. Doesn't even feel worth it anymore at that point.

Came here to post this.

Brownell's has it for $220 shipped. Stupid good price for a gun that isn't actually a hunk of shit.

they are pretty uniformly going to be bad, anything ring of fire, and revolver at that price, you might find a good surplus pistol in 9mm or mak for around $200 though.
