Currently, there are FAR more companies manufacturing 1911's-- including Sig and Glock-- that ever before in its 100+ year history for the simple reason that it is still the safest and most reliable large caliber auto loading handgun design ever devised.

I've owned both and the only difference from the factory is that the take-up of the Series 80 trigger is just a little springier. Most people wouldn't even notice that. Both are good triggers and neither is going to be appreciably different from the factory to make someone want to sell their 1991 to get a Series 70 instead. The 1991 has three dot sights, which a lot of people will appreciate, while the Series 70 has blacked out sights and the higher level of polish will make it a fingerprint magnet you'll never want to carry, plus it has a significantly uglier rollmark. The price difference is about $150, so not such a huge difference to make the 1991 a decidedly budget option. If you can afford a 1991, you can afford a Series 70.

Noguns keep repeating this lie that there is a significant difference between Series 70 and 80 triggers because you people don't understand WHY some people prefer the Series 70 trigger. Hint: it has NOTHING to do with the factory trigger job, and everything to do with the ease of modifying the trigger later down the road. With two more moving parts, the Series 80 trigger is that much harder for a gunsmith to work on and give a good trigger job.
