It's official, /k/. I just got my first gun today, a PTR-91 GI. What was your first gun? Where/how'd you get it? Is there any story behind it, or memorable experiences you've had with it?

Does it have a name?

Pic related.

Mine was a break action .243 that I can't even remember who made it. I killed my first deer with that rifle.
I still kinda miss it
>>
My first gun was a commercial Chinese SKS that my dad gave me when I turned 18. He bought it for $100 and gave it to me. I sold it for $400 right after Sandy Hook (with his permission)

The first gun I bought with my own money was a SMLE a few days after getting the SKS. I traded that for a Browning Auto 5 two or so years ago, then I sold the Auto 5 and put that money into Slav optics

Excellent choice op, I applaud you for not cheaping out on a C308. Got to handle my buddies new PTR, same model as yours, and it blows my century CETME sporter out of the water in how tight it feels. Oddly the CETME has a crisper trigger.

My first gun was my wasr. Done a lot of mean shit to it over the years, and she has had many, many different looks. This is the most current, and probably the final iteration.

Ruger 10/22. Disgusting. Hated it. Steel screws ate the aluminum receiver and it would shake itself loose.

First gun I was really satisfied with is a Mossberg 500. Still have it. I remember taking it to Nevada with some friends when I was 20 and shooting water bottles on a public range with a snowstorm coming in. Eventually my hands froze and we drove back to Reno in a massive shitstorm but it was fine because lol civic/light throttle.

>>34198798
How much do you use yours?
>>34198883
What is wrong with their quality? If you own one do you have experience with them?
>>
>>34198921
Lots of out of spec receivers and parts. Their finish is terrible. For a while, they swapped out all their bolts for Imbel ones since theirs were defective. They're really sketchy about selling cast vs forged receivers. I don't own one because I wouldn't want to. If you want an FAL, then I would recommend either building one or buying a build. You'll pay about the same price for much better quality. The PTR is a pretty solid choice too.
>>
>>34197748

Other anon here, I only own a 12ga and a PTR because I live innacity and don't get out to shoot too much. For me having two big boomsticks that are both simple to clean is a big plus.

It's worse than the Mosin Nagant shilling - M44's are $500 bucks, and anything non russian is over $350, with your basic 91/30 round costing over $250.

>>
>>34192776
That's not the case though - entry level AR-10 builds are under $900 now and .308 AK's are cheaper as well. PTR GI's are also in the same ballpark price wise as the entry level DSA Voyager FAL's.

This PTR poverty meme is fucking old, it predates the election and doesn't translate into reality anymore and it's cancer has destroyed many a /brg/ thread

Also SCAR's are quite a bit cheaper than they were before the election - they are under 3k now
>>
>>34192807
Voyagers are about the same price as PTR-91 GI's though the only difference is Voyager comes out in batches.
Again you idiots fail to realize pricing dynamics have turned upside down since the election. We are now in a weird world where most reputable service pistols, an SKS and a non-ruskie Mosin cost more than a basic bitch tier AR-15.

Slavshit costs more than fucking AR's now retards, get with the times
>>
>>34202552
Is a SCAR worth the $3k I'd have to drop into it? There's one sitting in the display case of my LGS for $3100 new, but my town is mostly fudds who would never spend that much on a rifle, so it's been there forever.
>>
>>34198739
I'm not one of those twinks who think you have to pay for overpriced .22lr for a first gun, but if your going to first gun now, in these wonderful and exciting post election days when AR15's cost less than a months groceries and basically every other centerfire out there aside from the shittiest bolt actions and ammo is cheap as ever loving fuck....

Get an AR and never look back
>>
>>34198090
>>34198739
Not him, but probably because you can get TWO AR's for the price of a PTR-91 GI now and ammo is under .30cpr.

You would be out of your mind to not pick up an AR

AR15. I pieced it together myself. Built the lower from a parts kit. Ordered a complete upper, barrel, telescopic stock. All Anderson parts, aside from scope. I also got a sling, but the clips on it are too small for the hooks on the body of the rifle and I haven't figured out how to get it on yet, Spent about 500 total on it, and it feels REALLY nice, even considering other AR15s I have shot before from friends of mine, and who have spent far more building theirs.
>>
>>34202597
SCAR's are under $2800 now (and falling). The election results deflated their value and now you have a shitton of butthurt SCAR owners who paid $400-$700 more than current pricing.

Don't even think about touching the one in your LGS, it's overpriced - unless you can talk them down to 2700
So of course they feel like douschey elitists
>>
>>34202697
Given that it's been sitting there collecting dust for all of two years, I don't think it'd be hard to get bubba behind the counter to get rid of it for less. Thanks for the advice.

Spent months taking my time learning the caliber it shot and how to respect it. After about a year of once a month practice I started hitting targets 300-500 yards out with the iron sights.
I love getting a new gun in a new caliber to play with at the range, and I love learning how the different systems work.

PTR pricing is relatively stable
>GI-R (paddle) is $950
>A3S Classic (Paddle) - no rail $900

For comparison DSA Voyagers "21 are $900 and "16 are 1K.

AR-10's are dropping in price and SCAR's are nosediving. A SCAR-17S is now averaging $400 cheaper than before the election.
Basic bitch AR-10's are now in the sub-$1000 territory

Figure out what the dealer paid for it - that will be his hard bargaining wall. If it's been 2 years he may have paid more than current MSRP - which means he may not move below $3k.
He probably will not sell it to you at cost, he wants at least $100-$300 profit over his bottom line

I forget what dealers paid for them back then but I know it's over $2500

That said, first gun was a 10/22 and it was meh. Funny enough, right after I bought mine my cousins moms fiance basically gave me his (much older) 10/22. Had a wooden stock and the old style Mag release. I'm wondering if it just has a cheap shit scope or if the barrels just worn but it REALLY likes to shoot left

No, it shouldn't. .22LR is useless for anything other than plinking, and considering that most of the people on this website are poor, you'd be spending money you don't have on something useless. Sure learning safe handling of firearms is important, but you can learn that with a gun chambered in a useful caliber just as easily as you can with a .22.

Not nearly enough as I should. My PTR is the most fun to shoot out of any of the guns I own, but it's a pain in the cock to clean it. If it were as easy to clean as my AUG I'd probably take it to the range every weekend.

My first gun was a heavily worn long-barrel 1914 Winchester 1912 12ga, given to me by an elderly friend. Despite what /k/ says about selling guns, I sold it to a collector for $400 and bought a cherry 1940s 20" Ithaca 37 for $100 to replace it. No regrets.

But the first gun I bought myself was...

They are great to shoot, but really overinflated in terms of price. I love mine and it is an incredibly soft shooter (plus the HK irons just make sense to me and hit where I want them to). Downside is not all the AK mags will work, but it is a fun and great way to shoot a G3 clone without paying to feed a G3 clone.

Century WASR-10/63
>where/how'd you get it
Bought it at a gun show way back when for $300
>is there any story behind it?
traded it for a goddamn Red Jacket Firearms, then traded that POS for an Arsenal.
