I did a survey of my collection of stories a few weeks ago and came to a general conclusion on this:

I can personally certify that it does happen. When I was NG (recently transferred to active duty), my state had a few units that would compete with the top-tier airsofters, and I once attended a training event where we used airsoft for room clearing.

As much hate as it gets, if you're focusing on actual combative skills with proper technique and doctrine rather than dickbeating over whose ballspitter 9000 shoots a chunk of plastic the best, then it's good training.

As far as the SF stuff, I'm not sure. I know there are professional OPFOR guys, but you generally have to be prior service, have been something other than a Mega-POG and I think there's a school in VA.

First episode was when I went up spring 2016 with a Model 50/Kike98 hybrid to take photos.

A power strip runs overhead in this photo and leads to a derelict barn adjacent to a log and plank house downhill.

Power strips are periodically trimmed by the power company.

Shortly after I took this photo, a man carrying a large red bucket crossed the power strip making way to the road.

I simply walked on even ground road to reach him as he was going on a steep uphill slope, with the rifle loaded and shouldered.

As we exchanged pleasantries, I noticed he obscured the red bucket behind a pitifuly small sapping and positioned himself in a way to hide it from me.

He claimed to have been a lost root digger; he carried a hand mattock and satchel, boonie hat and a poly spring jacket.

I reminded him of his trespassing and he made out down the road like he was searching for signal. (We get some signal here, rarely do we not because of how tall this location is.)

I inspected the bucket after escorting him a ways, it was of leaves and a bullet riddled pissing pot used as a trail marker.

Episode two is longer.

Me and my brother went inna like we do, but a different car was parked in our parking ditch. This was troubling.

I had my AR15 (16" CL Pencil, Middie) and a Chink 213- a 9mm tokarev.

Brother was given the tokarev. we locked and loaded, swept through the mowed portion of our property and examined for boot prints, mud, or missing farm equipment.

We came back around and determined no evidence.

We checked with three people, one family and two neighbors - none of them recognized the car.

We decided to stake out the car, which was sitting at the left branch of the y which formed the hollow.

(Hollow is the opposite of a ridge. a \/ instead of /\.)

Brother stood by the car in plainclothes while I took my kit and rifle to the upper branch, right side of y.

The code word to call police was Jericho.

So brother is at the left y branch.

50 minutes since arrival.

He sees the man jump up from the brush onto the road, and greets him curtly.

"This your car? No, your cousins you say? you wont mind us towing it then? alright. ANON JERICHO COMEHERE!"

He took it upon himself to make it seem like there was another person in our group by using Jericho like a name.

So I heard muffled yelling from across the v shape in the y.

This is why I cam running over the hill with a loaded AR15, and not pictured, had pointed it at both the stranger in the photo here and at my brother, as I couldn't tell who was who or why there was muffled yelling.

Brother was on the phone.

Stranger kept a fast pace walk and shuffled the fuck away before he went to the methden up thee road, 30 minute walk.

I met with brother who explained to me what and why he yelled that way. Explained that the phone call was fake, there was no tow, and the guy was leaving.

I expressed he made a potentially lethal mistake. He contended it was worth it, that the owner might appear once word gets around that the methmobile will be removed.

We make agreement that the opfor at least are equal to us or outnumber us, so we decide to stay together at his lower altitude left branch of the y shape.

We make some more real phonecalls, to elderly family, to reconfirm we didnt fuck up and to get them up to speed.

Simultaneously, the first dipshit we met that day arrived at the methden and brought reinforcements.

They drove in a shitty minivan, faded white paint and all of about 6 teeth between the two of them, gummy yellow tombstones in gaunt pale faces.

It was Crackmomma and Heroin Heroine! - two women. The first guy probably was sticking in straight fentanol for the first time in 2 hours.

Well, Crackmomma and Heroin Heroine talk like those two fat round eggpeople from alice in wonderland - finishing sentances and echoing each other.

They claim that if we call off the tow, 'He will be out any minute' and they will all leave.

Who is 'he'? "Dont worry he'll be out in just a minute" "any minute really" "We can move the car" "yea lets move the car" "I think we have the key" "i dont have the key, do you?" and this drivel went on as they attempt to act like the two armed teens in camo and milsurp aren't unusual at all.

In about five minutes, we didnt get about 3 sentances in as they talked, pried at the doors, and left 'to find the key'.

We resumed a enhanced ambush with me laying in wait. They came back soon, tried again without the key, left again, and probably were making phone-calls to the other unknown individuals.

Then our father called. He directed us to stay inside our property and hold the middle of the v in y, minimal visibility in exchange for security.

That meant we didnt see the trespasser until he jumped onto the road, he saw us.

We approached on foot, rifle low ready and loaded. we stood behind hte gate posts and had a short conversation.

Episode three - Gooks in the wire edition

The short and sweet was we went on a full length patrol to examine all barbed wire boundaries to repair and set up no trespassing signs, Violators will be shot, survivors will be shot again, ect.

This meant we went fro the right y branch to the bottom tail of the y, miles in, and the hiked up and back out from the creekbed to arrive in the left y branch.

We repaired two obvious Barbed wire cuts, strung up more wire, and found all signs were intact.

Like I've posted, typically drug fiends or fucksticks who intrude private property.

Last folk we run off was a fudd and his spawn illegally turkey hunting our land.

Other options we consider are using trail cams to capture human traffic, but I personally believe trespassers are fucking off as we've increased patrols and activity in that area.

Whereas it was mostly wild pasture and old-growth woods, it is now bush hogged and mowed, an active garden, activity once a week, and frequent shooting.

We haven't resigned to leaving roadkill hanging from trees yet.

The cave was shaped like na igloo- But with a central room which had a winding J path and a crampt direct route from the mouth.

This shape eludes photographs.

A Route like the tail of Q and another like a J , with the J looping back to the entrance.

You can walk in the J route, but cannot see below your hips, as the rock comes down.

You must crouch to pass the Q's tail route but can see all of the cavern, no rock comes down to obscure this.

A good example of this is my bosses grandson. I work for a land surveying company, and since I live in the Appalachians, I get to work in some pretty rough places. Now, my bosses grandson is a worthless fucking idiot but for some ungodly reason, my boss still sends him out with the field crews to work. One day, we were at a lake doing some stuff on the shoreline while my boss and dumbfuck were cutting line. Well, my boss was cutting line and dumbfuck was standing around. Anyways, my boss must have gotten out of sight of dumbfuck because all of the sudden we hear him screaming "PAW PAW!!!" from across a cove. My bosses chainsaw was still running and he couldn't have been more than 100 feet away, but dumbfuck is screaming his head off. I asked him later about it, and he said he didn't know where his grandpa went.

Now, if this dumb motherfucker can get lost while still being able to hear where people are, how can you expect some dumb Yankee who has never been in actual woods to know how to find his way back?

Think there was a book on the subject as well. Many natural parks are hot spots for deaths/disappearances but this is also largely explainable by the amount of idiot traffic they get.

Im inclined to agree with you that most of these missing persons are just idiots doing idiot things.

That being said there are some concerning similarities between a lot of these disappearances that result in fatalities.

1. People are very close to their group or a campground and are "there one minute and gone the next". Searches are started promptly but find nothing or maybe some personal affects at best.

2. Bodies are found at least days later, either miles away or in previously well searched areas.

3. Bodies typically show signs of severe blunt force trauma, indicating a fall from a great height and or onto rocks despite being a significant distance(often miles) from any topographical features that would allow for this.

Some cases in the same parks are similar enough that it almost starts to look like an MO.

TBQH you should take this all with a grain of salt as I only learned about this stuff on a lark after thinking about how natural parks would be probably the best place for a skilled serial killer to operate/take victims and did research on my own regarding things like the number of reported animal attacks and missing persons in national/state parks. I definitely came across this info looking for something to be sketchy from the get go. Frankly I've always had a great amount of curiosity regarding America's amount of unsolved missing persons and things like the FBI's claim that america has between 30-50 active serial killers at any given time.

Really activates the old almonds as to what kinda shenanigans go down that gets misreported or entirely unreported.

Hell, i was out at a somewhat well traveled state park recently and ran into a weird situation myself.

Decided to go down this poorly marked trail(warning #1), somebody had shot the sign/post repeatedly with bird shot and knocked it over.

The trail quickly devolved into nothing but a game trail with the occasional bunker off of it(typical for this park).

Only 5-10min in i heard what was clearly somebody talking within 100yrds of me on top of a small ridge to my right but figured the trail probably just passed by one of the parks many popular fishing lakes and kept on.

Soon after I noticed the sounds of something following me on the same side of the trail at about a 45 degree angle behind me.

I tried to ignore it but it kept going for a good 10-15min and i was getting pretty far out there so i took my chances when i got to the next clearing and jogged for it. I walked 2/3rds of the way through it or so figuring that anybody following me would have to come straight at me from a distance(was armed) or stick to cover and have to take a more circuitous route because of clearing.

Shit can get weird in the woods pretty quick, I've even had people clearly try to follow me before in their cars while im headed out for a hike.

I don't CC and I act normally in public, I'm a welder and I live on my own. Shooting is a fun sport, I've always been interested in guns mechanically, and shooting itself is a relaxing form of self-competition.

I called my parents later that evening and told my mom what had happened to me. My mom is like a medicine woman (hand trembler), she asks me where I was, tell her she checks it. Turns out that area I go to shoot at is a gathering place for bad medicine people to do their witchcraft, and they sent that snake at me to tell me to GTFO as they were gonna start doing their rituals and shit. Mom does a cleansing, rubs ash all over me and my gun. Still go to that area but not where I hang out. When I go out there I usually have my shootan vest on, with muh queer ass gear, mag pouches for ar/pistol mags, emt molle bag thing, and a ham radio (I have a local repeater set up in my town that I use when I go out hiking I always tell someone where Im going and what freq to moniter) This time I had fucking nothing, oh also a pistol loaded with snake/rat shot.

I've ran into bears 3 times since then, and it usually results in both of us fucking off in the opposite direction. Except for the time a cub ran across a trail I needed to take to go home. That caused some worry.

Our prey instincts aren't completely useless, thanks to the invention of firearms. It gives us the chance to hunker down, listen, and figure out what/where the sound is coming from.

9/10 times when your red flags go up it's probably nothing, but that 1 time you choose to ignore it could be the time where you walk right into a predator bigger and stronger than you.

It's good to be wary of sounds changing and the woodlands going quiet. You never know what could be out there, whether it be a pack of Coyotes, a bear standing between you and her cubs, or a fucking fawn.
