>Convince me to stop buying $7.76 TulAmmo from Walmart.
Protip: you fucking can't.
>>
>>34190228

Fuck it's over $9 at my walmart or i would be buying it. I bought 1 box to see if my new AR9 would cycle it and it chugged though it flawlessly.
>>
>>34190316
It used to be priced likewise here, but they put it on rollback in all the Walmarts near me recently. I've been buying it up ever since. For some reason they never seem to have too much of it at once though.
>>
>>34190228
I bought a shitload of that Tula 9mm. I think it was 7.67 though. Tula shoots fine in my gun so IDGAF>
>>
>>34190228
Why? For 9mm, that's not a bad price for steelcase, and if it works, who gives a fuck?
>>
Do you think that's a good price or something?
What's your cutoff $/rd for 9mm?
>>
>>34190228
Only issue for me is that it smells like shit, had an issue with a live round popping out and getting stuck in the action but that was probably my SKS's fault.
>>
>>34190228
I plugged through a box of 7.62x51 for $10, just to see how bad it was, and it went bang without an issue.

Though, it's literally half the price of brass, so I'm curious what the real drawbacks (and horror stories) are.
>>
>>34190228
If you don't buy it, I will nigger.
>>
>>34190228
used to be in the same boat tell i got a gun that was sensitive to steel case and wallyworld started selling the federal at 9$

Figured at that point i might as well just say fuck it and collect my own brass for whenever i get around to reloading
>>
>>34190381
$0.24/rd is the most I would pay to shoot 9mm at paper.
>>
It's really not "all range" ammo if it's steel though because some ranges don't allow steel ammo.

I bought cheap steel .308 for cheap, but I can't take it to any range I want.

>>

Don't do this to yourself, you'll develop bad training scars by just standing there and shooting. A gun fight is a gun FIGHT, it's fluid and you should be moving.

Also
>Be at indoor range
>Pull out Tula box
>Range douche turns head, slowly walks over
>Stands behind me

>"Hey there, you can't be using that"
Motherfucker

"Sir we don't allow steel ammo on or range."
Range 2: "Fuck off with that steel shit."
Range 3: Fine give us 300 bucks a year and you can shoot.
Range 4: No steel fuck off.
Range 5: Four hours away, also fuck off with your steel ammo.
>>
>>34190706
Why would a range not want steel ammo?
>>
>>34190228

>>
>>34190773

they're fucking $15-20. You save that much in one bulk purchase
>>
>>34190737
1.) Fire hazard. Indoor ranges have tons of unburned powder all over the place, including down by the bullet traps/stops. A bullet with a bimetal/steel jacket has the potential to cause a spark and touch off a fire. A range in my town actually burned down this way.

2.) Can't reload or sell the brass. This is a much lesser reason, but it is the reason in some places.
>>
>>34190381
$11 per 50 is the most I'd ever pay, unless I was really in a pinch. most of the time I buy 1000 round cases when there are good deals online for $9ish per 50(after shipping)
>>
>>34190393
Don't use it in a FAL, whatever you do. because of the way it extracts it runs the risk of having a case separation and blowing the bottom of the magazine out of your guns.
>>
>>34190706
My range sells steel ammo, maybe I'm just lucky.
>>
>>34190737
"It could be some crazy armor piercing stuff. I know its just wolf jhp being unpacked from a box but were not allowed to take your word" is what my range says. I do it anyway but theres the odd employee who actually takes it seriously.

Basically they use the "might damage our range" excuse, meanwhile you can shoot all the steel you want as long as you buy it there and shoot it there the same day, ecks dee :^)))))))
>>
>>34190838
Check out sgammo because I bought 1000 rds of Magtech (brassat $183, so 18c/rd.

http://www.sgammo.com/product/magtech/1000-round-case-9mm-luger-115-grain-fmj-ammo-magtech-9a

50 rd box for $9.95, so 20c/rd
http://www.sgammo.com/product/magtech/50-round-box-9mm-luger-115-grain-fmj-ammo-magtech-9a

Minimum shipping is $12 for any weight up to 12 lbs, so that 1 box shipping would be $12, more than the cost of the 1 box, so you should buy a lot.
>>
I've shot a lot of tula out of my AKs. It'll go bang, but it's dirty as fuck and smells like cat piss.
>>
I live about 1/2 mile from tens of 1000's of acres of BLM land.

Good thing my vepr wasn't made by taurus so the firing pin hits the primer instead of the steel case.

Yeah thats a common issue with the SKS. I have that happen maybe once every few hundred rounds. Cleaning the living fuck out of the rod that pushes the bolt back after firing (idk the proper name and dont care) seems to help lower the probability of it occurring, at least for me.

I will say that I have only had this issue occur with tula ammo. However, tula is basically all i shoot in any meaningful quantities so that doesnt really mean much.

Does steel cased ammo wear out your firearm faster than brass?
>>
>>34193779
Technically yes, but the difference is negligible at best. About half of the range ammo I shoot is steel and I have failed to notice any excessive wear on any of my firearms.
>>
I just got 120 rds of molle coated .308 at $8 a box at my local walmart.
Did i do a good job?
>>
I'm trying to balance cost of steel cased and the reloadability of brass, so I usually buy mostly steel and a few boxes of brass at the same time.

For range purposes, Wolf makes a steel-cased round with a normal FMJ lead bullet. It's a little more expensive than normal steel cased but cheaper than brass. It also should wear your barrel more slowly.

On my AR, I put on the "heavy duty" extractor spring and so far no problems.

I got a few cases of the yellow box stuff in 7.62x39 before sgammo sold out.

I wish I bought more, since non bimetal ak ammo is next to impossible to find cheap unless you want to get corrosive surplus, but even that has been going up in price in recent years.
>>
>>34194477

>since non bimetal ak ammo is next to impossible to find cheap unless you want to get corrosive surplus,

Yeah, I got 400rds of M67 for my SKS last year, but I'm really paranoid about it being corrosive and have to clean my rifle pretty obsessively afterwards.
>>
>>34190393
7.62 is fine, won't be very good out to 100+ yards but you're not shooting an AK with steelcase for accuracy.

>>34194726
>not getting a job at the truck stop a few miles away and emptying the trailer while the driver sleeps in the lot
>>
>>34190228
No. Tulammo is loaded kinda weakly, but it's fine. The money you save shooting steelcase will more than pay for a new barrel if you manage to shoot yours out, and the difference in wear and tear on your barrel between steelcase and brasscase isn't all that great anyway. It's mostly down to the cheap powder, but that's also used in cheap brass case anyway.

The only time I've bought a large order of brass case ammo was a few days ago, I ordered a few .50 cal cans of that CBC M193 5.56. It's all packed up in foam and the boxes of ammo are sealed in plastic with desiccant already in them.

And I'm never going to shoot it, it's my SHTF ammo, and since that'll never happen, it'll just sit in my closet forever.

The bullets are JUNK. Undersized, way off their marketed weight, inconsistent from one to the next.

Pic related is Wolf WPA "55gr" from before they switched from Tula to Barnaul. Significantly undersized and ~7gr too heavy.

This shit gave me multiple squibs in my Beretta. Buy the cheap federal stuff instead
>>
>>34190349
As someone who works retail it's most likely because ammo comes in very rarely on the trucks. Like 1 in maybe 15 or 20 trucks will have even a single case of maybe three or four 20 rounds boxes and it's almost always something like .22 or 9mm and is rarely anything that is capable of hurting anything other than squirrels or rats.

tl;dr Chances are the reason Walmart has so little Tula at any given time is due to the way the trucks and delivery of shit to the stores work
>>
>>34190610
>Waits until I fill all my mags
>"Hey there, you can't be using that"
Then tell him to fuck off and continue to shoot your funs because chances are they only allow brass they're hoping that you don't reload and that gives them the opportunity to sweep in and steal your brass since brass is like $1.40/pound
