Drop them with what, exactly? Only the air base is critical to defensive operations and intruding aircraft have to survive to mine it. The British have trained for rapid runway clearance since the Cold War. Mines aren't that good even if the delivery platform made it in. It would not likely return to base. Radar and SAMs are much improved over the many years since the first squabble.
