For that guy in the last thread wondering if Turkish 8mm is safe for his FN49, I present you with the Gospel of Ian. Yes, that is a 1919 top cover.

>Please, guys, don’t use this ammo. If you absolutely must, then stick to bolt action Mausers, and understand how to handle hangfires safely. But don’t let this be your 1919 or MG34 or MG42 or FN49 or G43 or Hakim. Or your fingers.

I got a sporterized No.4 Mk I for $130 at auction. 6 months later I sold it for a USP .45 Tactical. it was the most ridiculous trade I've ever done. my friends were telling me not to go because they all thought it was a scam and I was gonna get robbed. Showed up anyway, got the gun, and immediately turned around and sold it for $900.

The point is, cash out your 401k and buy guns with it instead.

If you're going to Sarasota most shops are tacticool AR's but the bullet hole in downtown Sarasota has a rack of milsurp and hunting rifles and Red Barn Gun Shop has a small selection of milsurp. Me and a friend drove around to 10 different shops the day he turned 18 and those two were the only interesting ones for milsurp and even then it's not much. Don't know about Tampa though.

yea, the rear sight is probably the worst ever put on a rifle.

almost everytime i go to take it to the range i think about that shitty sight picture and put it back in the safe.

as i said last thread, if it had a clear peep sight like the Type 99 or M1917 it would be one of the 5 best bolt action rifles of all time.

the problem with stock repairs is blending in the repair with the stock. A lot of guys repair their stock then refinish it so everything matches, but then you kill almost all the value of the gun.

>>34192195

The new imports with the billboard import stamp on them go for $200-250 regularly now.

If this is an older import with a small stamp, even if a but beat up $200 is a fair price I would say.

However, if this is a non rearsenaled gun that is worth more; especially if it matches. $600 is still too much though. An original configuration Nagant is probably worth more like $400-$500.

Check the bore before anything. Most of the ammo people have shot through these is the old corrosive surplus ammo. Check the bore for any pitting or damage because sometimes ignorant people don't clean the bore properly after shooting the corrosive stuff.

Otherwise I think it's a super cool gun, especially since the make and year (1943 Izhevsk) match my Mosin (pic related), so it's like they're siblings.

SKS is the cheapest, both for the rifle and the ammunition. If you want more of a cool factor go for something like the FN Model 1949 or Swedish Model 1942 Ljungmann rifle.

so I'm thinking that might be the case. Rifle manufacture date was 1883, and obviously, spitzer bullets weren't introduced until 1898. So this rifle would basically be unfirable since there's no way it could handle the pressures, right?

I bought a sporterized Krag, got lost in the moment of my first purchase since deciding to start really collecting. I kind of regret it, but I've decided I'm going to try to get it restored.

You also need the metal fittings. Barrel bands, bayonet lugs, etc.

But as far as price goes you didn't get hosed.

they are still dirt cheap and one of the better deals in milsurp right now. but probably will never really appreciate in value the way other milsurp has. still theres a chance they might. but its not as obvious as the $59 mosin 91/30s, M44s and M38s of yesteryear. anyone old enough besides me to remember those days? they weren't that long ago, just like 10 years
>>
>>34203887

AFAIK they did sometimes swap bolts with bent ones at the arsenal. But it's also a very common bubba mod. You can generally tell the difference if you inspect it up close.

Hello /msg/.

My K31 is doing this shit at 30 yards.

Big fat group.

Contrast with the AR15A2 group beneath it, and the other ones which were zeroing groups.

I couldn't even pattern the K31 here. What do?
>>
>>34205655
Check your crown. At 30 yards you shouldn't be seeing that kind of spread with any rifle.
>>
>>34205689
Crown looks good to me, smother and evener than my Ishapore 2a1.
>>
>>34205655
Check to make sure that your rear sight leaf is secure, and not just wobbling around.
>>
>>34205770
It is rock solid. I can hardly lift it up for the strong leaf spring. Side to side is not possible.
>>
>>34205832
If we're just stepping through things we would check: next I'd check the bolt lockup. Also, stick an unfired 7.5x55 bullet tip in the crown end of the bore and tell us how far it goes in.
>>
>>34205832
>Bolt lockup
How?

>bullet into crown
Precisely 3/16 of bullet remain outside of the bore to the case. Difficult to measure because the crown is concave.

>>
>>34205655
Is the stock contacting the barrel at the end? There's this bubba mod where they "free float" the barrel and it fucks with the accuracy surprise surprise.
>>
>>34205904
Expect it to be counterbored, expect to take it to the gunsmith to have the crack bedded and repaired, as far as the condition, it really seems like a crap shoot, I ordered a VG and had to send it back because it was in something closer to Fair condition. But I have a beautiful example as a replacement that was still in then "good" lot
>>
>>34205956
>Is the stock contacting the barrel at the end?
Yes. It is dark black from blueing heating up into the wood and is waxy and dense. Inside the stock of course.

Eh I dunno. People regularly pay over 1000 for complete ones. And more people are starting to appreciate them. Probably gonna see PPU make loaded ammo instead of just brass soon.

It exempts many (most?) collectible US firearms from US importation laws.

Specifically it's intended to overturn Obama's blocking to the repatriation of the South Korean Garands, but it should apply to other guns as well.

I hate to ask this but could you be flinching? Also are you comfortable with two stage triggers? Apart from everything else that has been mentioned that is the only thing I could think of to ask.

I know I still flinch with large(r) caliber rifles which is why I bought an Ishapore 2a1. Figured 7.62 NATO is cheap and I wouldn't feel super terrible about putting 'mileage' on it.
>>
>>34210464

Are there any common/cheapish guns like the mosin that aren't the mosin? I want a bolt action but not something modern. How much are Swedish Mausers and where can I find them? Is ammo for them hard to find and is it expensive? What about regular Mausers?

Why? The guns are still old, arcane, and difficult to use (all in an appreciatable way). Why are you guys paying so much for them and ruining the market/appeal? Just buy one and done. If you've shot one crusty old bolt action you've shot them all.
>>
>>34212103
>Why are you guys paying so much for them and ruining the market/appeal?
What? Is this a serious question?
>>
>>34212128
Yes. The appeal was that they were cheap. Why wouldn't I just go buy a brand new savage rifle that hasn't been whored out to some third world conscripts and isn't all worn down and shot out.

>>34211988
>Shoot more
I got plenty of Gp11, so that will work. I understand two stage triggers and take up the slack for the benifits of second stage.
>>
>>34212179
The appeal is to collectors. That's who wants surplus and who will pay for it. Not Bubba looking for something cheap to practice his butchery skills on.
