everytime one of my dogs dies, it takes a piece of my heart with it and leaves a small piece of its own heart in place.
i hope by the time i die my heart will be more doglike than human and i will be just as compassionate, gentle and playful as the many canines that accompanied me during my life.

pic related, the girl i am in love with.

"Old Blue died and he died so hard
He shook the ground in my back yard. I dug his grave with a silver spade
And I lowered him down with a golden chain.
Every link you know I did call his name,
I called, 'Here, Blue, you good dog, you.'
I'm tellin you so you'll know,

I'm tellin you so you'll know,

I'm tellin you so you'll know,

Ole Blue's gone where the good dogs go."

I lost my battle buddy a few months ago suddenly. He was five years old and he up and died right in front of me. I thought it was a an aneurysm just by how quick it happened. My vet believes he likely suffered a massive heart attack from a tumor pressing on a major artery near the heart.

My gf dragged me out to a family with litter of puppies a week ago and now we have a little guy wandering around with the exact same personality as my deceased buddy.

Sometimes I call the puppy and use my buddy's name instead.

Just remember. He's not gone, anon. He's just scouting ahead and waiting for his back up to arrive.

Mans best friend.

Although we may have many fruitful relationships in our lives, it's the bond we share with our dogs that are the most special. The dog doesn't have much in the way of expectations; a warm place to sleep, food, water and love. The dog doesn't fault us for being less than perfect. They will always be there for us, regardless of the circumstances.

It's funny, as men we tend to abstain from emotional trials, but when considering the unwavering love our puppers give us, that the dog never expects you to be something that you aren't, that he is always ready to tread to the ends of the earth in your presence, we are unrestrained in our affections towards them. Even on /k/, shitlords and haters can come together to solemnly pay respects, for we all know, and such is the magic of mans truest ally.

Epitaph to a dog -Lord Byron
Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices.

This praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
if inscribed over human Ashes,
is but a just tribute to the Memory of
Boatswain, a Dog
who was born in Newfoundland May 1803
and died at Newstead Nov. 18th, 1808

When some proud Son of Man returns to Earth,
Unknown to Glory, but upheld by Birth,
The sculptor’s art exhausts the pomp of woe,
And storied urns record who rests below.
When all is done, upon the Tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been.
But the poor Dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his Master’s own,
Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonoured falls, unnoticed all his worth,
Denied in heaven the Soul he held on earth–
While man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven.

Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power–
Who knows thee well, must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy tongue hypocrisy, thy heart deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye, who behold perchance this simple urn,
Pass on– it honours none you wish to mourn.
To mark a friend’s remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one -- and here he lies

>they're just dogs
That's like saying, "Hey look, I know it sucks that they're dead, they were just your best friend. Stop being sad and deal with it."

Believe it or not, sometimes people have trouble letting go of the good times and that makes the loss sting forever.

Sure, it sounds stupid, I get it. When you get down to the brass tacks it's just a ball of fuzz and muscle with the mental capacity of a toddler or a very small child who mooched off of you for a few years.

But the thing is that, for most people, if you spend enough time with something, and especially if you spend enough time taking care of something, then it will build a home in your heart and then when it leaves there will always be that hole there.

It really is stupid, all I have to do is remember what her fur smelled like, or remember how when we ran together she would always keep pace with me--even though I knew she could easily outrun me if she really wanted to--and I start tearing up again and it's been years now.

I must be broken.

We all must be broken.

I want my dog back.

Fuck...

>my dog comes out of nowhere like black lighting

>one of the pits retreat before we get there the other we manage to wrestle away
My dogo has her back all ripped up, she looked like a cyberdog for a month with all the drains and stitches. Still managed to fight off two full grown pits and let my sister get out of harms way. Scary as shit though

I have some good and some sad stories
As a kid we had German pointers as we used to hunt. This is Ireland so only .22...no idea why that relevant but whatever
Had one pointer,max..I got attacked ..sort of.. by a local angry German Shepard. Out of fucking no where came my dog. Jesus there was fur flying . Max,normally relaxed went fucking apeshit balls out for the Shepard. Never saw anything like it. My dad had always said if dogs go at it..stay the fuck away. So I watched in terror fearing my dog would get ripped to shreds cos Shepard and all. Not so. There was one bite and this yelp. That fucking Shepard never came within 100 yards of me after that. He passed still miss him..amazing hunting dog We got another pointer,Sam. He used to look out our gate for me every day coming home from school. Paws up on the gate looking. He knew exactly when I came home. last day I was playing with my friends. He was lying in the sun and looked up with that u wanna play look. I just ran out to my friends,no nod just thinking, tomorrow. Sam Dropped dead that night out with a walk with my dad..just keeled over.. To this day I can see his look and still don't really forgive myself for that. Just one minute to hug him,play..fuck man ..just one minute is all I need. I'm 52 now that happened when I was 12. Doggos become part of a family and to the saddos here saying otherwise..u will never know. To op..feels for you dude. One minute silence in honour under way.

>anything about the rainbow bridge that isn't manowar

You must hate your dead battle buddies. Try this

Carry we who die in battle
Over land and sea
Across the rainbow bridge
To Valhalla
Odin's waiting for me

He was born of giants
His icy coat is grey
At night he rides into the world of death
The living by day
One day on his back I shall ride
From the battlefield into the sky
Borne by Valkyries we Valiant Dead
Into the Hall of Heroes shall be led

Ride down from Asgard
To the battlefield
Bringer of the Valiant Dead
Who died but never yeilded

Carry we who die in battle
Over land and sea
Across the rainbow bridge
To Valhalla
Odin's waiting for me

Faster than the fastest horse alive
The living son of fire rides
From the halls of Asgard across the sky
To the world of Gods and Men

Eight legs and magic runes
Carved upon his teeth
Thunder and lightning
Sound beneath his feet
On his back the war God Odin rides
Sword and magic spear held high

Ride down from Asgard
To the battlefield
Bringer of the Valiant Dead
Who died but never yielded

Carry we who die in battle
Over land and sea
Across the rainbow bridge
To Valhalla
Odin's waiting for me

Damn, so sorry. I had to put my 16 year old boykin spaniel down in November, it still makes me well up to this day to think of him. He had congestive heat failure since he was 11 and the vet said he wouldn't live for more than a year. When he started having trouble walking I'd come by parents house and take him for a ride in my old truck. We took really good care of him though and in the last year he was alive me and my dad would even carry him off the porch to let him pee. He went blind, started refusing to eat and then started having trouble breathing. Maybe I'm spoiled but that was the worst day of my life. I'll never get another dog again, RIP Jesse.

Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch.

>adopted a rescued dog from abuse nobody wanted, been returned 6 times in under 6 months
>German Shepherd/Lab mix, missing 1 canine tooth from abuse, hip surgery, scared shitless of loud noises and rain from being locked outside constantly
>got him some Valium for thunderstorms so he can sleep, eventually he only sleeps with a fan on
>slowly but surely he learns to trust me and that I wont abandon him like the others did
>one day notice a growth on his chest and take him to get inspected, vet says its a fat tumor and that he's too old to have a good chance of surviving the surgery
>watch day by day as the right side of his chest gets bigger and his breathing gets heavier because of the tumor pushing against his lungs, he barely barks now
>his hips are starting to get shaky and he's having trouble getting up, doesn't bother chasing squirrels.

I've only had him for 7 years, he just turned 12 and it's gonna be time to give him the eternal sleep the moment he starts suffering. He doesn't give a shit about his problems though, he loves his walks.
