Hey /k/ I just talked my parents into getting mean M1 Grand (I love the design and history) for hunting and target practice before I join the military. My question is what do I need to do in Illinois if I'm 17 in order to legally have a gun and hunt? I'm totally new to gun ownership and law so any input is helpful.

Assuming you haven't been banned yet:
In Illinois you have to get a FOID to own a firearm and buy ammo. No age limit on buying gun food, but you have to be 18 to buy long guns and 21 to buy pistols. Your parents however can ***gift*** a rifle or pistol to you if you're underage, which is what mine did.
