Would you fight in a modern horse cavalry unit?
>>34181881
Hell yes. I've heard they use some mules in the mountains in Iraq but in the 1970s I think it was portugal had a legit dragoon unit, riding horses with G3s blasting.
>>34181881
I wouldn't join the military in anything but a Western air force or a US Navy aircraft carrier.
>>34181881
GODAMNIT YES
Does Horse Cavalry have any use in modern warfare?
>>34182112
I know Army SF rode horse in Afghanistan back in 2001
>>34181881
Probably not. I sold my old horse because she was getting old and I couldn't bring myself to put her down if I needed to. No way I would be able to bare having them dying all around me.
That said, I definitely would have joined during or before the Indian Wars. That shit would have been fun, and not an absolute horese slaughter 100% of the time as long as it wasn't something like the Civil War.
>>34181881
Yes, in a heartbeat. Muh ancestors were irregular horse soldiers, and I am so jealous of the ballsy things they did.
>>34182293
Are you finngolian?
>>34182348
Nah homes, Virginian.
You're riding on another soft target, and they would only be useful in an open field to close the distance. It's just another target in the city, and you're creating a fairly spotable profile on a horse.
>>34182898
What if horse kevlar?
>>34183038
Then it would probably overheat because horses can't dissipate heat like we can.
>>34181881
Fuck no.
>>34183111
But horses wore armor is medieval times, right?
>>34183111
Water cooled horses.
A 'vest' underneath the armor with small tubes of circulating water cooled by a small solar powered unit and a passive radiator.
>>34183145
yes they did, and it severely reduced their stamina and speed
>>34181881
Sound like a death sentence... Sign me up.
>>34183145
Outrunning a malnourished peasant with a pike was a lot easier than outrunning a bullet.
>>34181881
Yes.
>>34183188
Holy fuck this is hilarious
>>34183145
Heavy cavalry? Probably.
Light cavalry? Most likely not.
>>34183178
But kevlar is lighter
I'd serve.
>>34181881
want me to just fucking use a black powder muzzle loader for modern combat as well?
>>34181881
>2017
>fucking horseniggers STILL exist
REEEEEEEEE
>>34183549
Why do you hate horses?
>>34183742
If you care about horses, putting them on the modern battlefield is the last thing you would do. Around eight million of them died in world war 1 alone, and that is not even being used as cavalry mounts.
>>34183742
>enf enf
>nuu
>>34181881
>>or a US Navy aircraft carrier.
>get sunk by chink submarine or russian missile
>>34181881
YOLO. Sounds like it would beat being infantry, even if you have lower survivbility in a firefight. I mean, chances are you'll never be rotated into combat against someone armed with anything more sophisticated than a rifle, so it isn't like you'd run into the obsoletion problems that the poor blokes in WWII and WWI did.
>>34182112
They're fast and they can traverse terrain vehicles can't. Not really useful in a desert, but Civilization lied insofar as them being outmodded.
>>34184700
all that lost horsepower
>>34182112
Pure horse cavalry, as in "we charge in force to break enemy formation" ? No.
But mounted infantry is faster than light infantry when motorization isn't an option.
>>34182100
>using horsey as cover
Fucking soulless chinks
You'd be a lot less likely to hit a mine or tripwire then more conventional land vehicles.
>>34182348
Hakkapeliitta pride
>>34182100
What is this rifle ? Looks like a Howa Type 89, but surely that's not possible.
>>34182196
Well yeah, because SF are cowboys, but they also commandeer motorcycles.
MARSOC is basically just a motorcycle gang as well.
You'd have to be pretty dumb to fight on a horse in modern combat though.
>>34183211
Why would you be outrunning a malnourished peasant? Only in the event of a revolt following a bad harvest.
For any actual fighting you would be far more likely to be outrunning a townsman or a well-fed peasant or woodsman. Or another noble/ yeoman on a horse
>>34185564
Literally every nation has done that.
>>34181881
no, horses are shifty a f
>>34185564
Hell man, even John Wayne did it.
>>34182112
Good for patrolling unpaved tracks
