The RPG impacted and detonated, sending it's copper EFP straight through the front of the turret. The molten copper did not impact any munitions/fuel so there was no catastrophic kill. The RPG functioned as designed, the turret was penetrated, the cardboard shows only secondary outward spalling.

When an RPG hits an armored vehicle, it doesn't blow up like in the video games unless it detonates secondaries within. Keep basing your opinions on video games though, kiddies

If I remember correctly, the tip of the RPG in pressure sensitive and contains a shaped charge that directly molten metal into the target, right? So if it impacts the cardboard and triggers the charges then the hull of the tank is only treated to the projectile, and not the breaching charge, right? I haven't done any research into turbanhead projectile weapons so I'm not sure.

An dog works by using a shaped charged to punch through armor. A shaped charge is highly dependant on stand off distance. That's why an rpg has a cone and tube like structure on it. The impact sensitive fuse is also the measurement of optimal standoff distance.
So if you can out something several inches to a foot away from the actual armor you can disrupt the charge.
That's how slat and bar armor works.
He'll even plywood would work so I imagine enough cardboard would to.
