Bore over .50 and has no sporting purpose (not a shotgun)? You need a form 1 DD stamp for it.

Ammo is stamp free assuming it doesnt contain more than 1/4oz of explosives or isnt a "firearm" itself.

.50 is more or less the armor standard for most APCs and maybe even some "rescue vehicles"

Yeah id like to even make it mag fed but i like tinkering with shit ill make it work somehow but i literally want a long barrel large bore caliber that can easily kill a semi and be toted on a carriage of a bike for that ww2 aesthetic and or be infantry carried. File a form 1 DD stamp then and do a 20mm vulcan, the AP rounds are well put together and pretty simple to load/find. Mag fed might be a little over the top since you're going to throw up so much dust and shit is going to bounce around.

I'm not sure how that would work legally if you make the projectile extend past the bore end, like with some of those German AT guns. I think you might have to register each projectile as a DD, but I'm not sure.

EFP makes more sense for nigger rigging if you want actual anti armor capability. not something you can exactly build ahead of time though unless you like getting v&. Arty wise something along the lines of a bowling ball mortar could launch a hell of a payload close to a mile with no modification to the launcher.

If you're looking for a happy middle ground what id recommend would be a very large bore and overbuilt "potato gun", something like that would be legal in many jurisdictions(IIRC) while requiring only special projectiles to do fairly serious work.

Fuel air compession/combustion hybrids with burst disks FTW! Use hydraulic tubing. Dude in Ga. Punched a tungsten sabot through 4 inches of cold roll steel.
Counts as a bp cannon if not using shells. A shell contains the explosive. Right? So prebuild sabot canisters with burst disk and think falling block breech. Not muzzle load. The combustion chamber isnt part of the shell. GTG.

If you just want to fire inert stuff then the projectile isn't a DD, the weapon wouldn't be either as long as it won't accept some type of standard DD ammo, like the 37mm vs 40mm launchers. In other words if you rigged up a .50 rifle grenade launcher that could fire 60mm mortar rounds out of a cup it might be a DD

i wonder if you could rebore a vulcan barrel and use it for 950 jdj. i mean shaving off 4mm and redo the rifling wouldn't be that big of an issue. in terms of pressure, the differences aren't that big of an issue either; especially if you're not going to rapid fire them. idk food for thought.

For a basic ass EFP you start with a cylindrical charge of HE and then form a depression in one side and place a metal(usually copper), fairly shallow, bowl in it.

Due to explosive physics the depression focuses the blast force and the copper bowl inverts into a slug shape movin hecka fast. Don't really want to get into specifics though. if you can't figure something out when it comes to energetics it's best not to fuck with it, that's how you end up in jail or dead.
