Of course. It is an excellent and serviceable round. There are many great platforms that shoot it too. Anything in 5.56x45, 5.45x39, 7.62x51, or 7.62x39 will work just fine and there's tons of ammo out there.

Personally I think they are sweet, look nice, and enjoy shooting my brothers mini14. He had had no issues with it, his even loves the plastic mags everyone shits on.

5.56 is enough for deer also. That being said if SHTF id wanna have both an AR and AKM laying around. wouldn't carry both at once or anything mall ninja like that but having the other hidden in your house or vehicle would be nice. TBQH if i was headed somewhere where distance wasn't a likely issue or i was gonna spend a lot of time in/around vehicles id probably be more liable to carry the AKM than the AR. 7.62x39 does a bit better job of punching through light cover than 5.56 and can be folded up for concealment or inna vehicle use to boot. When you talk about long range maybe a bolt gun or semi auto .308 makes the most sense. AR might very well be my backup rifle due to sheer popularity.

I'd say I'm pretty well set up. The thing people don't talk about with AR vs AK is parts longevity, AKs undeniably need less part swaps and almost never have anything break if you get a well made one until even nice ARs where springs and bolts inevitably wear out and break.

Beretta 92 is also a sturdy as fuck handgun that will feed literally everything, I'd trust it through the end times
