How would I go about adjusting a german K98 front sight? It's shooting to the left a bit. Would have to move it to the right, correct? It seems it's just a dovetail so couldn't I move it with a brass punch?
>>
>>34169928
Yes, also put tape over the area where you use the punch to help protect the finish.

Lightly tap it so you don't move it too much.
>>
>>34169854
That's kind of cool

>>34169760
Not bad, but I'd stick with fmj when you carry it, i haven't seen any tests where the jhps meet the FBI minimum for penetration. What holster will you use?
>>
>>34169928
Nope move it to the left. Front sight is same as groups, rear sight is opposite. And yes, just drift it over a tiny bit with a punch and hammer

Posting the same picture yet again because what else is a man to do.

I need to take a new one soon since I bought a Soviet flag and a British Canadian Colony flag for each gun. Planning on doing that for any more milsurp I get, but at most that will probably just be a cheap Spanish Mauser or something since I'm going to college and need money.

Anyone know anything about 7.62 NATO chambered Israeli Mausers? There is one floating around on a certain gun auction site that looks appealing.
>>
>>34170469
yes
>>
>>34170469
If they're in good condition, thats a pretty good deal. 91/30s go for 200-300 if they're in good shape and M48 Mausers are probably 300+ in good shape
>>
>>34170495
I've heard of .308 rechamberings damaging milsurp after a couple thousand rounds but nothing specifically about the israeli mausers.

LOL, I hear you on that. I'm on the younger side, in school living with my folks, and they're a little weird with guns so I have to make due with snapping pics in my tiny bedroom.

I'm super jealous of what you've got, any chance you have an SVT? I've heard they're dirt cheap up in the great white north.

That first pic with the G43, STV40 and M1 is mine. I'am only myself 19 actually. SVT's are neat and I'am glad we have the opportunity to buy them for so little but is honestly one of my least favorite WW2 milsurps. Their long, have ridiculous muzzle blast and are prone to parts breakage.

Oh, I'm dumb, I didn't realize you were the same dude. I'm 19 as well, I don't know how Canadian firearms laws are, can you buy the sidearms yourself, or do you also have a relative prone to gift giving?

My collection is small but steadily growing, I only ask about the SVT because they're like 2k here in the states. How are the other surp prices there? I paid about about 330 for my No. 4 late last year, and 230$ for my 91/30 just a few months ago.

You can apply for a firearms license when your 18 and if you take the extra restricted course that will let you buy handguns and AR's. I actually gave my dad the money to buy a Ruger MK3 when I was 14 or so.

>No4 rifle's go for $1000 give or take because it was our service rifle in WW2 and many where sporterized.
>91/30's are going up but still can be had in the cosmo for $200
>Russian SKS's are $200
>SVT's where as low as $250 a couple years ago but are $400-$600
>Chink M14 clones can also be had for $600
>>
>>34170889

Wow I am instantly jealous, those are exactly the kind of laws I sometimes wish we had here. I've been a part of a responsible gun owning family for a long time, but I still can't purchase a handgun myself for another year and a half.

I have a S&W Model 29 and they kick the same.

I let an anon shoot mine at MWNF -- he had just been firing his Mak -- I don't even think he finished emptying the mag before he handed it back to me and was shaking his hand.

its not going to bruise or anything, its just not 'pleasant' to shoot, and you would have to be the size of Dwayne the Rock Johnson to actually mag dump and keep your rounds center mass.

-robo-trip (unless you invite me)

-try to drink the piss as it comes out of your neighbor's dick (unless I'm invited)
-listen to your father's dying words

-pay attention to the auction
-prevent your mother from being raped
-re-rape your mother after the original rapist has left

-sacrifice a migrant worker on your altar in Ian's temple (Ian hates dirty spic blood)

For about the same price you can buy a pre-armistice made one here in the US. I paid $600 4 years ago for this one and it was made right before the armistice and hasn't been fired since it was prooved at MAS.
French rifles in general in the US are so unappreciated (or really anything that isn't US or Nazi). I paid $225 for an all matching 1891 made Berthier. And that thing sat at a gun show for several weeks too.

You can see why so many collectors in France buy their rifles here and import them. I don't even think you guys have many pre-armistice rifles left in their original condition either as the ones left in France would have been rebuilt.

yea I've shot a majority of the military bolt action rifles ever made, and the M1917 is in my top 3. I even have a P14 that I havent shot since I got my '17, the stock is lighter and gun is better balanced - and rimless cartridges are always superior.

My top 5 bolt actions

1. 98k
2. M1917
3. Swiss K11/K31
4. Mas 36
5. Type 99

honorable mentions:

03A3 - better than most of those on the list but I dont count it since its based off the 03 that has shit sights - it also wouldn't exist if the M1917 had been made by Springfield (politics are gay)

SMLE - also better than most of the top 5, but rimmed cartridge and rear sight are minuses

Ross MkII (same as SMLE)

Dutch M95 has the smoothest turnbolt action ive come across, but rimmed cartridge and enbloc clip are minuses.

you have that backwards. The only reason the 03A3 came to exist was the government trying to keep its arsenal (springfield) in business.

Had the M1917 (orig P13/14 - Brits) been a Springfield organic design, they would have stopped making the 1903 and never made the 03A3.

the 1903 exists and was adopted for political / financial reasons, and its 'substitute standard' equivalent (03A3) exists for the same reason --- to replace it with M1917s would have meant paying licensing / patents.

It would be interesting to know why the Brits did not adopt an improved P14 to replace the SMLE, hindsight being 20/20 they would have been better off streamlining the stock and adding a detachable mag instead of developing the No4 (which is another great rifle)

yes but it used the design, because it was still in service for the same reason. The springfield 03's should have been mothballed after 1918. There were 3x as many M1917s in service and it was the better rifle in all functional categories.

Since Springfield had converted to Garand production the 03A3s were made elsewhere, but the only reason it came to be was that the 03' was already/still in service since not enough garands had been produced to supply the troops. but they needed a simpler wartime production model that would be cheap to produce and could augment a military force that was growing faster than M1s could be produced.

>Since Springfield had converted to Garand production the 03A3s were made elsewhere
Springfield hadn't made M1903s for almost a decade by then. Remington had Rock Island's tooling and was making them even before they came up with the M1903A3.

The main reason they didn't switch from the M1903 to the M1917 was because they would either have to purchase the rights and tooling from commercial firms or have them make them. As what happened in the 1960s when the government bought Colt made M16s, they knew Springfield would have been shut down if they bought rifles from a commercial firm.

Sorry, 36/51. Not too good with the specifics of french guns.

That's what I was thinking too. No rust but it is pitted in some areas, and also missing the front barrel band. I'll have to take a bore light and check the barrel next time I visit. Thanks.

P-14 would have never replaced the Enfield, if for no other reason 5 rds verses 10.
>>
>>34180145
ive handled them with good triggers - but i havent had my hands on enough examples to draw a conclusion that I would actively defend.

one of my first Mosin Nagants was all matching and had an action/trigger that was as smooth as any match-grade rifle. obviously that is not the norm for those guns ---- maybe i got lucky with the 2 Mas' i fucked around with ---- if I find a few more and they have shit triggers I would def drop it a couple pegs.

>>34180181
thats why i said they'd have given it a detachable mag or a trench mag.

ah a russian one eh? prob not worth it then unless the M1917 comes with a bayonet and some ammo or cash.

The refurb triggers and bolts are typically pretty gritty because of the Parkerized finish. Once you cycle them enough they smooth out.

Non refurbs are pretty smooth. They are heavy triggers mind you, but are still very smooth.

He stated in the auction that they weren't numbers matching and they aren't, my understanding is that that's common with Arisakas though, is that wrong? The Type 99 is off by 3, the bolt is 029 and the receiver is 026. The Type 99 is Substitute Standard or Last Ditch so it wasn't made with a dust cover, the Type 38 doesn't have one either.

Yeah, mismatched numbers are common. In his auctions, at least in the last year or two nearly all of his Arisakas seem to be "matching" and at least some are clearly been scrubbed and renumbered.

>>34182305
That's an 11th Series by Nagoya Arsenal.
>>34182324
That's a 2nd Series by Kokura Arsenal. So that's a carbine. I have one of those too.
>>34182364
That's セ (se) that's a typical Kokura arsenal inspection/acceptance mark. So the stock is correct.
The Type 99 should have 名 (na for Nagoya) and リ (ri for Toriimatsu the factory location).
The bolt for the Type 38 should match with the last digits of the serial number, but minor parts like the extractor will be matched with an assembly number. That's just how Kokura matched their parts.

Then it should be a Nagoya made stock. The stock splice on Nagoya rifles went above the sling swivel (pic related) from about the 3rd series onward. The same goes for their subcontractor made rifles like the one in the pic. The other manufacturers kept with the splice going horizontal.

I guess it would be a 49/56. But at the moment its a little low on my priorities list compared to things like a 35m or a Ross Mk3.

what rifle does this stock belong to?

I just got a nagant revolver and I am over the moon. I am waiting on my ammo order to be able to shoot it, but it fits perfectly in my hand.

Grats. You'll probably have a blast with it, I'd recommend you bring a length of cleaning rod to range with you. If yours turns out like mine ppu can get stuck in the cylinder and needs to be gently tapped out

Thanks for the tip. Having shot it, would you say the round has enough oomph to be a good second or third gun during a hog hunt? Not what I purchased it for, but extra uses are nice.

Surplus might work, but I really doubt it would be really useful. I've considered squirrel hunting with mine, but never done it. Ppu is only 98 grain and fairly limp wristed.

As I understand it, Turkish 8mm is unreliable enough that shooting it out of semi-autos is a really bad idea.

>Please, guys, don’t use this ammo. If you absolutely must, then stick to bolt action Mausers, and understand how to handle hangfires safely. But don’t let this be your 1919 or MG34 or MG42 or FN49 or G43 or Hakim. Or your fingers.

I doubt I would use it then, but I do plan to reload the brass. I wonder if the gun would object to a hotter load?

I've heard PA-63s have an ass trigger and it sucks, but they make modified springs you can replace and make the trigger weight not be a gorillion pounds. Also 9x18 mak is kind of a weak penetrating cartridge so personally I'd always shoot ball ammo.
