Anybody else not really have a problem with high mosin prices? At my lgs mosins are about $295 and I dont really see a problem with it. Even at that price the mosin is still better than most other options, especially if you want a bolt gun with iron sights.
>>
I'm happy that prices on milsurp have risen so that they're not the first choice for bubbas who will merely end up hacking up irreplaceable historical antiques because "muh ounces". Or, for that matter, for 18-year-old poorfag autists who just want a cheap shooter. Milsurp is for collectors, which is the way it ought to be. The days of the $60 "nugget" may have been fun, but I'm just as glad that they're over and we'll never see their like again.

I'm just fine with it, although ideally all guns would stay plentiful and cheap. Glad I got mine when it was only 100, but I know damn well that it was artificially cheap to the extremes.
If I didn't own a mosin, I'd gladly pay 300 for one if I had to. I love the thing to death even though I'd been in the semi auto 54r game since 2009 with a psl, and didn't get my mosin until 2012.
It's just too bad that surplus 54r went away too, I miss paying under 20c/r for 54r shooting. At least I have a pretty good stash of it.

The collectors market is rough.

There's still deals to be had, I bought this Polish m44 in late 2015 for 250.
>>
>>34166937
Just wait till they go even higher. In 5 years they'll be $500+.

Which is fine by me. The only Mosins I need are $1800+ anyways.
What rare one do you have?
>>
>>34167357
Fucking phone.
What rare mosin(s) are you trying to sell?
>>
>>34167452
It took me 2 months to sell a 1943 date m44 for $300.
>>
Well, the "problem", such as it is, is that the prices are pushing up into the range of better options - for anyone who isn't specifically looking for historical milsurp. It's a decent rifle if you clean the grease out well enough, and it's a part of ww2 history. But for the college poorfag's first rifle, it was only exemplary when it was $100 and ~22 cents a shot.

With entry-level ARs pushing down into the $400 range, and companies like Mossberg and Ruger putting out surprisingly nice bolt guns in the same range, the Mosin has increasing trouble justifying its own $300 price point.
>>
Nogunz here. If I wanted to buy a Mosin (or any gun) from an online store and have it delivered to Virginia from an outside state, I just have to have it shipped to an FFL dealer right? Do you have to pay the FFL dealer a fee? If so, how much is it?

Meaning? Thing had Cosmo inside of it and in the stock speaking of, should i sand it and then heat treat it then refinish it?
>>

oh ok then
>>
>>34168458
Nevermind I just found some on gunbroker.com
>>
Screw you guys. I live in Europe and they are 700$ here
>>
>>34168585
It's just doesn't look like the original red shallac, but there's a good chance that's the lighting. Is that a m44 or a m38? I can't quite tell if the bayonet is there.

If you refinish it the ghost of Sergei Mosin will haunt you in your sleep.

M44 has a crack as seen in pic and one by the muzzle as well as this spotting

Damn, I'd have taken that in an instant. Of course now I'm saving money for auctions.

Since I don't want to kill a possibly good thread by making a new one, I'll just ask here. How much would the average cost to get a mosin bolt polished by a gunsmith be? I'm scared I will fuck up the finish badly on my own.
>>
>>34168685
That crack will become a full on break if you shoot that.
>>
>>34168802
Bubba no.
>>
>>34166937
It's bullshit. There are so many fucking mosins out there but ever since the great panic they're still going for ridiculous prices because idiots are willing to pay $250+ for a rifle that should be <100.

I'm alright with the prices going up, even though I'm a poorfag. Because I would consider myself to be a collector before I'd consider myself to be a shooter, although I buy my milsurp with the intention of being able to fire it.

I also like the idea that my collection is constantly appreciating in value, in spite of having absolutely no intention of selling any of them, I just enjoy knowing I have something considered valuable.

It's like watching interest accrue in you bank: seeing the K31 I got 11 years ago for 160 being worth 500 now. It's neat.
>>
>>34168458

Yes there's a transfer fee, it varies from place to place, the lowest I've seen is $20, the highest is $90. It's the exact same service, so find a cheap one near you, don't pay over $30 unless you literally can't find anything else.
>>
>>34168864
Yes and Mausers should be $20, Garands should be $80 and gas should be $0.35 a gallon.
>>
>>34168896

I like the way you think.

/k/aptbilly for President 2020!!
>>
>>34168919
I would probably actually vote for him.

Since this is the mosin thread, i'll ask here:
Does anyone know where I could find a pre-1918 mosin? I've desperately wanted one for a while now, but I cannot find one to save my life.
>>
>>34168966
Gunbroker (good luck with the new search engine) or a gunshow that specializes in collectable guns (talk to the dealers, they have connections). You could also try your luck with the big name auction houses (Rock Island or James Julia) but they typically throw "low value" guns into lots.

"X should cost Y" is a delusion of communists and old people. There is no set amount of money that anything should cost. Any particular thing costs whatever the market will bear it costing. Supply and demand are where it's at. If you want to see what happens when people think they bypass this and make things cost what they "should" cost, just look at the news from Venezuela.

The only quote I want to hear from a communist is "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh..." as you fall out of my helicopter.
