At a glance and admittedly with no idea how the game portrays it working that actually looks potentially functional though. Ok the charging handles are kinda far forward and it looks like it has the standard vidya lefty ejection just so they can make casings fly across the screen, but it could either have some funky rotating bolt, or there might even just about be space for a conventional bolt to travel back into that rear extension, although that then does seem odd that it looks like an add-on part.

It's at least closer to functional than shit like >>34164045

>>
>>34164160
The up and down part could easily enough just be a dust cover being worked by the bolt, for added complexity and luls. Although it does also magically eejct through the top of the receiver but eh lazy animators don't expect you to be looking at it that closely I guess.
I find it more interesting that you have the charging handle apparently doing stuff out of sync with either bolt. At one point it sort of looks like it would maybe be only linked to the right hand bolt, but then it perhaps isn't quite? And the whole double barrel thing makes it a whole lot less viable to have enough space for rearwards bolt travel, a single central barrels bolt would fit, which was what I assumed, but that setup probably doesn't.
And why does the lower front portion also recoil? I thought those were handguards not a fucking moving part.

fuck, even as far as COD goes that game was boring as shit.
The weapons with alternate modes and shit were cool, but the distinction between laser and ballistic weapons was completely pointless, and the lazy-as-fuck "take 21st century gun, add techy bits" approach to designing damn near all of the guns didn't help.

On a smaller note, this gun makes me ask many questions, such as:

-why is the bolt reciprocating if it's an energy weapon?
-why does it still even have a bolt, and a charging handle for that matter.
-why is the battery still in the shape of a banana mag?
-why did they decide to keep the old color scheme?
-what the hell is strapped to the end of the muzzle device?

Two things I found interesting about titanfall 2's guns are that many of them has holographic irons that doesn't pop up unless you aim down sights, second being the reloading animation is different depending on if you are completely empty or have one in the chamber, shame you don't actually get the +1 round in the chamber after reloading.

Don't want to start another thread for this.

This is an MX from Arma 3, and it has reciprocating charging handle that's on the same level with barrel. At first I was like "what the fuck", but later learned that the gun designed by CMMG, so now I really don't know what to think about it. Could this be possible in real life?

My theory is that the charging handle runs to either side of the barrel, and is connected back to the bolt, kinda like a SCAR. But instead of beind on top, running to the side on either side.

Probably a design decision, actually having +1 counted in ammo counts realistically forced you to balance other aspects around that, and also incentivises not magdumping. This wouldn't benefit titanfall in any way. Personally I think it's fine if the animation shows it, aesthetically the weapons are fairly well designed, and the animations are pretty high quality (especially recoil). They are also pretty interesting, one thing that stands out is how you can feel the smg op posted recoiling left and right as it fires, pretty cool.

>-why is the battery still in the shape of a banana mag?
So you can use old crates, pockets, wests etc and so you soldiers can easily go from one weapon to another without having to relearn how to change mag/batteries.

This is the only thing that actually makes somewhat sense. STANAG/Banana mag size are reasonable for a battery and they would be fast to change. Ofc it would be more sense to just have the batteri in the stock and then charge it with a cable from backpack.

I actually sorta worked out how that operates at one point, it's pretty neat.

Don't get me wrong, it's awesome, but the Doom 2016 "chaingun" is hilariously stupid. 15mm tungsten slugs fired from a plasma-actuated Gatling gun...in man-portable form. Although I actually think the firing mechanism on its own could work, if you accept the Argent hyper-dense plasma.
>>
>>34165015
Somehow, this thing was chambered in 7.62 NATO, yet took a 5-round burst in the head to kill someone and many more in the body. The numbers say it does about 2-5 damage depending on your skill level, while the 10mm pistol does around 15-17 damage even when untrained. Furthermore, the grenade launcher is 20mm. And don't even get me started on some of the game mods that give you a UMP lookalike in the same chambering...

I'm not taking away from the stupidity of some video game gun designs and this is what this thread is dedicated to.

but my question is - when you play a game, do you let your /k/ autism get in the way or do you manage to put that shit aside and just enjoy the absurdity of some designs?
>>
>>34179805
Yeah, like how in Rainbow Six Siege, a game that wants to proclaim some real life tacticool has open bolt guns getting a +1.

Even then the design is shit.
>>
>>34179819
Is Rainbow Six Vegas 1/2 /k/ approved?

As much as I love Deus Ex for the plot, gun-wise, that whole game was a joke. So you're basically this nano-augmented super-soldier yet you can't aim worth shit until you upgrade your augs out the ass.
>>
>>34180240
kek truth

>>34180324
don't you like taking 5 seconds to get good accuracy with a rifle on untrained skill setting?
>>
>>34163948
Is that gun caseless or something? Cause those cartridges look odd.
>>
>>34180324
>you are the ultimate human weapons platform with literally dozens of onboard defenses, ECMs, weapons, and assorted tools.
>buuuut..... none of it works yet, cuz we dumped a few billion into building your augs but kinda didnt feel like activating any of it before we dump you directly into combat
>anyhow, have fun figuring out how to activate and use this super high tech incredibly expensive stuff on your own, heres a pistol with 8 rounds, we're dumping you into a warehouse full of violent terrorists.
>good luck!

I mean I get it, as far as gameplay goes starting out with all the end game augs and weapons wouldnt work, but the two things that pissed me off about the new ones was:

NO FUCKIN AMMO ANYWHERE
You never get enough ammo to play it as a proper shooter. Okay, so I guess its tryibg to encourage aug use to showcase the charecter's powers....... and even with end game upgrades you can use em all of 4 times in a row before you gotta crawl off and recharge. So augs are limited like its a shooter, and ammo is limited like its a close combat game.

>buuuut..... none of it works yet, cuz we dumped a few billion into building your augs but kinda didnt feel like activating any of it before we dump you directly into combat

Spot on. That was fucking ridiculous in general.

In Human Revolution you were a bit better prepared because at least you had those silly blades for CQC and knew how to use them. But in the first one it felt like you were just learning how to use weapons properly, so not only didn't your augments work yet, you were barely trained for the job as well.
>>
>>34180496
Or how you get issued such a tiny amount of ammo. Like they spend 10 minutes briefing you on how dangerous the situation is, then you get like 1 spare mag for your gun. And bad guys drop all of like 3 rounds at a time when killed.

Sooo...... not only are the augs nonfunctional, but they literally just toss you directly into combat nearly unarmed.

What i meant to point out was that they were detailed with everything but the cartridge in the magazine in that picture. It's all bullet.

Which is funny because i just crunched the numbers and at 10mm diameter, with 800m/s muzzle velocity and 510J; The bullet for that thing is only 25 grains (1.6g) which is a little over half the mass of a common .22LR bullet.
>>
>>34165015
The Assault gun was terrible in every aspect save one, the way it sounded as it laboriously chewed through your enemies.
>>

>batteries and wires mean electricity durr

thats all they think about it. They dont actually think of making one and how they'd do it. DIY weapons are fantasy to them.

on /k/, however..

Bethesda really went balls to the wall with their shitty procedural generation. I guess making actual unique weapons and armor is too hard for Toddy boy.

Also this abomination.

Christ I hated fallout 4, it was an ok open world fps, but an abysmal RPG in both mechanics and story/dialogue
>>
>>34184773
My thought is, the cylinders aren't actually meant to be expendable, they're just swappable like magazines. You dump them all over the floor because almost no video game ever has done mag retention properly.

I wouldn't even call it a decent FPS because the weapon pool is tiny. Also the Combat Rifle is chambered in fucking .45 ACP.
>>
>>34184801
Did someone break off a piece of a steam engine and make a gun out of it?
>>
>>34184850
Considering there wasn't even a .45 acp pistol (well, the pipe revolver, but I don't know why the fuck that would be in .45 acp either) I can't even rationalize it as Bethesda being lazy as usual

NV did gunplay and different ammo types and calibers so, so much better

I think anon means on IRL guns the casings eject to the right because most people are right-handed, but make-believe vidya guns have casings eject left as if the gun was designed for a left-hander, which flings brass across your field of vision because EPIC GRAPHICS.
