And fuck off with the balisong hate in this thread. I own all kinds of fixed and "traditional" folding knives and decided to look into something different...

Yes, people who try to act all ninja with them are cringy. But really, it's just a different style of knife. Would I use it as an EDC? No. However, I'm a knife slut so I just like this sort of thing.

My only issue with butterfly knives (aside from the aforementioned fedora knights) is the price disparity.

There aren't really any highly revered "middle price range" balisongs. You either get cheap flea market knives/trainers that look gimmicky as hell and fall apart, or pay $300+ for something high quality.

Even Benchmade's fucking trainer is $255 on BladeHQ. Come. On.

I agree, the balisong is a fine enough knife in itself. It's also just as useful as any other. I'd say the culture around flipping is what makes them kinda gay.
It also doesnt help that proper production level folders demand the prices low level custom knives do.
Theres an explanation for benchmades prices though. Apparently the price for titanium sky rocketed after the iraq war and hasn't bounced back since. Combined with worn out tooling at the factory they just couldn't cope with the prices they sold 42's at anymore and revamped their entire market pricing for balis.
I still think it's bullshit they demand over $300 for the 62/63/67 line while offering worse materials than the 42 family.

Mah nuggas. I agree with the other anon, I wish there were some mid-priced balisongs. I got this sub-$40 Bear & Son and the latch sucks. I wish there was something decent in the $50-$80 range instead of price jumping all the way to $200

Here are mine. They're both flea market ones, and i ground the edge off the red one becase getting a real one was just as cheap as a trainer. I can't carry them on my person in my state so i don't really see a point in getting a nice one. I do want a curved csgo type one for novelty, though.(only if its sharp, i dont want the dull ones i've seen, if they even make sharp ones)

I have one of the ones on the bottom, that single bevel edge makes it retardedly sharp. I'm not going to get another one until I find a decent blade with a latch that actually works.

They are fairly handy.
I mean consider when the balisong developed. A one handed opening knife is incredibly useful and unlike a switch blade or locking folder of any sort the Bali requires way fewer parts and opens with inertia.
It's stupid simple and a strong design. But fags who haven't seen anything but king fu movies insist it's not useful but circle jerk over their AR pistols

i think my jaguar is a knockoff, because the blade has no markings at all. it's still pretty nice though. my only complaint is after a bit of rough flipping/dropping, there's now dents where the bottom spacer pin sits against the handles and now when open the latch does not latch securley and the handles touch/wiggle when latched. but for only a handful of dollars, it's pretty whatever imo

I've had more folders with sharp edges, stiff locks, and poor construction than I have balisongs. I don't say that folders are impractical though. That's likely based on the volume of folders produced.
The balisong market is flooded with shit, but quality balis will not break and are very strong knives

the schrade manila folder looks pretty nice, but like i said, i'm not really in the market for one because i can't carry them on my person in my state. desu the aluminum handles on the jaguars aren't a big issue, the handles aren't really where the balisongs fail for the most part, it's the locking pins in my experience. also it's pretty thick aluminum on the handles, and there's a lot of it, so i think you'd be pleased.

my cs folder weights less than 100g most flippers weight above 200g. in fact the ones i actually had in my hand were all way heavier than that.

they are uncomfortable as the handles are utterly unergonomic when the blade is deployed. it's just feels wrong.

It's not about aluminum being weaker. I just prefer the weight of steel handles. But if it's as hefty as you say I'd be willing to give the aluminum a shot.

A side note, are the exiled cutlery kits worth it? Thinking about pic related but I hear a lot of bad shit about the company but can't tell if it's just people still ass blasted over the guys lawsuit with benchmade. Really want a kimura but they're impossible to find now.

I have plenty of normal folding knives that are used without issue. Balisongs are the only danger because you're intentionally flipping them. If you can go from noob->pro on a live knife without cutting yourself then you're a magician.
