So now that Colt is making the retro AR and Troy arms also has those throwback rifle too. Would it be possible to get another company, like Armalite, to reintroduce the AR 180?
I really like these rifles and I'm saving up to get one. A new one would be really nice but I don't mind getting a used one.
So what would it take to get Armalite to make the AR 180 or 180B again?
post pics and lets talk it out. lets see if we can make something happen. If anything, they'd just have to make the upper and lower. The rest can be regular AR 15 parts.
Nodak spud makes an "upgraded" lower. Mike from nds says their eventual goal is to make enough aftermsrket parts to make a complete rifle, but who knows if or when that happens.
I dont see much desire for new production ar180s.

I wish the 180b didn't omit the receiver door and folding stock.

What is nds? I'm sorry I haven't heard of it.
I have called Nodak, and it is really nice to have a lower replacement since the 180B lower pivot pin wares. Don't have to keep it as a safe queen.

I'm with you. something about it, specifically the folding stock. seems to make the 180 so distinct.

I love mine as an interesting conversation piece and it really does shoot pretty nicely. I don't know how much I would spend on a new one though. Part of their novelty is their rarity. I might do $800 on a really nice expertly finished modern example.

>low production numbers clone of a semi automatic rifle from the 80s
do you know how much aks cost in the us? $1100 would be a reasonable expectation, but $1900 is what they'd charge for them
then nobody buys any and the company goes under

And that would be an issue for sure. Original examples from Armalite are at best on a really good day $2000 rifles. Usually they can be had much less than that. I got my Costa Mesa AR-180 with a mountain of magazines and some accessories for $900.

AR180B came out during the AWB I believe. No folding stock, no flash suppressor since it had the pistol grip and standard sized mag.
I'd like an AR180. If it can be in the neighborhood as an mid tier AR-15 I think it would sell well.

While they are neat this guy:

made the main point you should see in this thread. There is no profitable market for them, unless some major company really felt like wasting time and tooling to do it as a limited run. But then of course you get the high prices because "limited run".

Point taken. A special run of a fully reproduced AR180 would demand a high price. Which would be ironic, seeing as the original idea of the AR 180 was to have a cheaper option than the AR 15. I know the Nodak lower is around 300 ( I'm rounding up).
So If a reproduction AR 180 upper that can take AR 15 barrel, buffer system, trigger, magazine and butt stock. Would that make the it more plausible to reproduce? It wouldn't be a born AR 180. But it would give you a lot more options

NDS=NoDak Spud you silly.
>>34161060
There's like 10 popular modern iterations of the AR18, why would you want the one that didn't evolve past its prototype phase?
>>34161060
So I'm actually doing a firearm design project for senior design at my university. It's actually a bunch of nogunz who came up with the idea so they're all stuck on handguns, but I want to see if it's possible to adapt an AR-180 upper to fit an AR-15 lower, using the AR-15 market for the rest of the parts. This would work, right?

A fucking piston AR.

vulcan did this badly

>>34165400
No, not really. I don't want to use the buffer system so the stock can fold. Ar-15 foldig stocks are shitty.
>>34165402
Right, that's where I got the idea for it. I just think it has more potential to actually work than designing a full handgun in two semesters.

Basically the Sig MCX, no? They appear to use a much less beefy BCG derived from the AR18, with the return springs around the rails. I have no idea why this plus a folding stock warrants a $2000 price tag on their 5.56 gun though.
