Anyway define 'no tools', I'm a machinist and a lot of machine work can be done by a skilled workers hands. Humans have been working metal for hundreds of years, machine tools are a recent invention.

slam bangs as previously mentioned are very easy and it isn't too hard to convert a flaregun into a single shot with a barrel stub and some epoxy.

That's called sine Bar rifling. Drilling is not involved. Also he later upgraded to a Diablo carbide cutter. I love Clint westwood.

Sine Bar rifling isn't really commonly done anymore, only because it's very slow. You can't take much material off, and you can't do multiple grooves at once. Because there's error and all that. But it was the way to go back before button rifling became standard. There are some guns still cut rifled, such as the marlin guide gun.

Sine bar rifling is common in the custom barrel world. Most are still using the machines made before/during WW2.
