It wouldn't because the AR-15 has a buffer tune that extends into the stock.

I mean, this could work if the bolt travels beyond the pistol grip and if the gun used some AN-94 type system where the barrel would move back with the bolt, lock the barrel in front of the magazine, unlock the bolt, let it travel past the magazine, catch the bullet, chamber the cartridge, and THEN have the entire bolt+barrel assembly move back to the original position and fire the round. Just send the designe to H&K.
