I'll actually contest this. I've been out of the loop for a couple months to keep my wallet from simply shiveling up, but a lot of the ultra high end folding blades on the market right now are Russian.

The Nips still command a very high fucking price point for their kitchen knives, so I don't know how good they are but I've heard they're fantastic.

Mid grade to lower high end folder market is pretty much cornered by American companies, with a lot of the offering from China being damn good as well.

I'm not saying German or Swedish blades are bad by any means, but they're absolutely not the best blades in the world. At least from a market standpoint. To the end user it's 100% subjective.

It depends entirely on blade steel and the specific model when it comes to budget knives. Usually the way you chip away at costs is by not having any sort of carbide or additive to your steel.

I should add that I have no experience with that particular brand.

I generally look to companies like SVORD or Spyderco for good low end knives. ESEE also makes some fantastic knives at a similarly low price point.

Do you have experiences with european-made swords in particular?

To be honest, I really don't know of any off the top of my head.

Windlass, Hanwei, and Darksword are all really good options, but they're based in India, China, and Canada respectively. They're all relatively cheap, and actually pretty high quality. I would poke around Kult of Athena to see if you can find something there. Though if my memory serves me correctly, they usually fetch anywhere from $600 and up.

I should clarify that this was in reference to European swords. They tend to be hand made, which fetches a hefty premium. I could be forgetting cheaper options though.

Best swords are made in Japan. There are still traditional smiths there who undergo a 10 year long degree program to krank out katana's, etc. that are art object grade and sell for 10s of 1,000s of dollars.
