If I can get the parts, the upper and the trigger group will fit, right?
I'll get steel bushings put in the rigger axis holes to prevent egging that happens like with the Colt LMG upper.

I don't know strictly if the parts will all work with one another, some of them were kind of unusual, but if your receiver is a registered machinegun I don't see why you shouldn't be able to build yours into an M231 style of weapon.
You can always ask the feds to be sure.
>>34143829
wasn't the m231 full retard only?
>>34143829
I did some research on the m231
it is an open bolt gun, full auto only
they use special lowers and bolts
the upper is a standard A1, with a few modifications, so I don't know if a semi auto will fit
>>34144071
I'm assuming OP is talking about building one on a transferable MG lower.
>>34144086
Im assuming OP is just going to make one full auto and keep his mouth shut, which is what a logical person who wants a machine gun would do.

Is that picture from Fort Henning?

>>34144086
the problem is, the m231 is an OPEN BOLT weapon
have a pic of the lower, notice the pins and "hammer", which isn't a hammer
OP, read this thread on AR15.com

You might be able to make some kind of custom FCG or something that replicates the function of the M231 FCG
Open-bolt sears are inherently VERY simple, and it really wouldn't be implausible to make what's basically just a sear that catches or lets go of the bolt.
>>34144133
or, if he has the whole FCG, he just could modify his full retard lower to accept the m231 FCG
>>34144152
Also plausible, but then you might have to fuck up a perfectly good transferable lower.
I get the appeal of authenticity, but man it's not an appealing prospect to put work into a $20000 item that might be irreversible.

>>34144122
A registered receiver is 20K vs a transferable m231 is 40K.
But yeah, welding and drilling out holes for new FCG is hairy business.
I'm still looking whether modifying a receiver creates a new MG also.
As far as authenticity, the point is being a shooter with the 1244 RPM. If I could avoid beating up an original transferable that would be better.

And thank you for the thread also, I'll scrutinize it further.
