As retarded as it seems to us, the Bat'leth is one of the genuine unique melee weapons in a fictional setting that almost seems like it might work. After all, these are probably the super sporterized versions of the real thing like the rapier, saber, etc. in fencing with a much more effective and lethal counterpart from antiquity.

not sure if it classify as "genuinely effective", but prop bat'lets or whatever they are called were know for causing injuries to distraught actors, being regarded as dangerous.
but dangerous dont mean effective, like, you could tie king najas to a short stick and call it snake flail.. it would be deadly for sure, but not very effective.
