Is a CZ 527 Youth Carbine .223rem a good starting rifle for my son turning 15 on Monday who only has experience with .22LR? If not then what scout rifle do you recommend?
Yes, I know I'm a bad parent. We really should've started earlier but it's never too late to become an American I guess.

Should I bump it up to 7.62x39 or .308? Regular size instead of youth? New rifle altogether? And sorry if this is the wrong place for this.

Why don't you ask your wife's son what type of gun xir wants?
>>34142106
I would say .223 is good for a kid that age. I only started shooting fullbore when I hit 14 and admittedly the first shot scared the shit out of me but I just lold when I fired.
Get him an ar15

>not getting your son a 20mm Lahti for his 6th birthday
What the fuck kind of parent are you?
>>34142106
I use this gun in DayZ. It's alright.

>cuck memes in summer of 2017
Guess what, bud?
>>34142106
just take a normal size bolt action, one with a rel. heavy stock if you can
the recoil wil be lighter and he wil be used to handel a normal gun
imb4 to heavy for a kid
it is good to train with a heavy weapon since it also trains you muscle
>>34142106
CZ makes a similar rifle in 7.62x39. If you and your son ever go hunting together, that would be more suitable for deer-sized animals. that is ALSO a very cheap caliber to shoot, on par with 5.56mm.
>>34142370
Which one is cheaper?
>>34142106
If he's not a manlet, don't bother with a youth stock.
>>34142717
5'6 or 5'7 I think
I was shooting .30-30 at age 12. He should be fine with .243 or .308. He's probably too big for the youth stock already. When you do move him up to a larger caliber please help him learn to manage recoil better than my dad did.
Pic related: My first rifle.
sounds like an odeipal home.
>buying a youth size rifle for my nearly adult son is a good idea
he would have liked that gun 5 years ago but it's too late, he's already developed his own tastes. ask him what he likes and go with that.

Pretty much this
When I was 14 I went from .22 at summer camp to a Jungle Carbine in .303 British
Hell of a jump, would not really recommend. But .223 sounds like the next natural step and CZ is great
>>34142106
if you expect him to buy his own ammo get it in .223 or 9mm or something

that's quite the story, but pretty accurate tbqhimho

I thought it was really good so I went in and revised it. You don't have to believe me but on my word it's 100% true, not some propaganda I made up and of course I'm not a leftist because I'm trying to teach my son how to become an American.

If your sons 15 then .308 shouldn't be a problem, I was shooting 12g deer slugs when I was 15. But no matter the age a first rifle should be a .22

>be spic

Occasionally I still go, but there's nothing there.
Let me tell you OP.
I got my first rifle when I was 10, it was one of those single shot crickets, with a small stock.
I shoot it once and a while now, but Shit that stock is small.
However, that's the price you pay. Idk how big your son is, I was a manlet, but definitely get the size that fits beat for him, not the one he's gonna fit in 5 years (assuming he grows much more.. I guess I'm overblown that part, he's 15 not 10 lol.. But you can always get a new stock/gun)
As far as .223? Sounds pretty good desu, you don't want a big 308 scaring him away from guns
>>34143502
my first rifle was a gew.98 in 8mm mauser.
But I got it at 20 so I suppose it doesnt count.
This is now a first gun/nostalgia thread.
>>34143561
You disgust me, how are you ever supposed to be a good shot if you didn't have to grub thistles and feed cows in exchange for 50 rounds of .22 each week.
Yes, it's a fine gun. I would probably get my kid a CZ 452 or 455, because .22, but CZ is fine.
do you want him to hunt with it?
or get him a CZ 512 instead.
>>34143580
I'm a suburban boi.
Living near DC isnt easy gun wise, but luckily virginia has good gun laws still.
No ar because I literally couldn't give less of a fuck about getting one. And I need to update the pic with a few new gats
>>34142106
>.223
You trying to raise a faggot?
>>34142616
7.62x39, 19-23cent/round
Gunbot
Luckygunner
Ammoseek
Also, get him a milsurp bolt gun and a semi auto.
>>34142106
My grandfather taught me how to shoot on a mosin in the middle of fucking nowhere in russia
At least he wasnt drunk enough to forget my ear plugs
.223 should be fine but it depends what you want to do with him(hunting big vs small game, target shooting),maybe ask him what he would like to have and go from there?
>if he says something dumb like .50 cal beat him with jumper cables
But in all seriousness,if he wants a levergun or something mid range in terms of calibre have him try it and if he enjoys it,get it for him.
Hes going to take care of something he wanted vs what he kinda wanted
One last thing, you could get him a cheap .22 pistol for fun.Or splurg and get a decent .22 pistol. Why not right?
Make sure he doesnt shoot up a school and have fun bonding
>>34143580
What?
You actually got stuff for that? I got that shit just to live hah
Second and First guns.
Sako L579 in .308 I got when I was 15, I have killed many wild pigs and deer with it.
Browning BL-22 I started shooting when I was 6, and was given fully to me when I was 8. I have killed many squirrels and rabbits with it.
Side note: Ignore the unmounted glass. I have since got the rings and mounted it.
>>34146837
Did that shit*
>>34142106
Good gun, good re-sale value.
.223 is fine for your son.
The only other option I would look at, if money or not caring if you scratch it matter to you, is a Mossberg MVP
>>34142960
/his/

You're gonna make it.
>>34146884
How's the accuracy with the 597 sako ? I've heard mixed things and I'm very curious
>>34146837
Me too but Dad was fed up with the rabbit so he just came up with bullshit stuff for me to do so I earned my .22, he used to hit me if I'd miss shit.
>>34146884
Holy shit you're a lucky kid, my first durr gun was a Remington 700 that I payed 70% of.
>>34148379
Mine is good, would probably be better if I took better care of it when I was a teen.
>>34148566
I know it's still a beautiful gun. My great grandmother bought it as a gift in Finland for my grandpa in the 1970s. He passed it onto me. (he also was the one who gave me the BL-22, what a great man)
