/k/ At the risk of sounding like a pussy faggot, I have to ask a serious question.

I feel like i'm addicted to buying guns.

I make decent money, but lately I haven't been putting anything away into savings (beyond $700 a month into my 401k) because i've been too busy buying more guns.

I agreed to buy a Smith and Wesson Model 29 tomorrow morning, that I don't need, and I feel very guilty about it.

Has anyone else hit a point where they feel like they are over doing it? Should I just buy it and move on?
>>
It's called a hobby, you have a hobby now
>>
>>34140371
how many do you have
>>
>model 29
Good taste, post pics faggot.

No one care about your "addiction"
>>
>>34140371
I hope there isn't. I think I've got the taste for it.

It started pursuing the first one. I wanted a large caliber milsurp rifle. I started saving when I was 18, but a while into it I was gifted a rifle. This should have been enough, but even within the first week of successfully completing my goal I felt the urge to still keep going. I still want more. I want everything.

I never want it to end.
>>
>>34140398
This is true, but I feel like i'm spending too much.
>>34140420
I have:
USP 9mm
PPQ 22LR
Sig P226
CZ p01
S&W 686
FNX 45

Four AR 15's (10.5", 16", 18" and a 20" 6.5 Grendel)

PTR 91

and roughly 12k rounds of ammo.

The bulk of these have been acquired in the last 18 months or so since I finished school.

This is the gun for $700
>>
>>34140461
needs moar milsurp to be desu
>>
>>34140482
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) the milsurp bug hasn't bitten me yet.

I bought a Chilean Mauser a couple months ago but have since sold it.
>>
>>34140480
im going to have sexual thoughts about that later
>>
>>34140480
Honestly, that's a great deal for $700. Don't feel bad about spending money on a gun that's worth more than you paid for it. Worst comes to worst, you can always sell it for $100-$200 more than you bought it for.
>>
>>34140521
It is a damn good looking gun, prelock and all. Barely shot.

>>34140523
Thats what i've been using to justify all my purchases. And then the floor fell out of the AR market so I felt guilty.
>>
>>34140543
Don't feel guilty. The AR market and the market on handguns that aren't made anymore are very different things. Smith and Wesson pre-locks will always command a premium to the point that you'll at least break even if you ever have to sell it.

>The bulk of these have been acquired in the last 18 months or so

How many times you been shooting in past 18 months? What I'm getting at is if you''re spending more time shopping for guns and accessories than you are going to the range and shooting you might have a problem. IME collecting is a bottomless pit of running from one endorphin rush after a purchase to another and another....you can never fill that hole with more stuff.

Challenging your own level of performance is another thing entirely. You are investing in yourself not in a bunch of things. I find spending time dry-fire training, running drills or shooting for groups at the range, working up a pet load for a specific gun are all much more rewarding than having 3 safes full of guns I never shoot.

It's not a big deal to want to shoot every gun ever made, but unless you're rich you're gonna go broke. My system is to have two categories of guns:

1)Working guns: CCW, HD, Hunting, SHTF etc. these guns get majority of training time as well as accessories, spare parts, magazines, reloading set-ups and in some cases identical backup guns in case of failure.

2)Range toys: these guns don't get shit but shot and fondled. Sold when I'm done with them and want to try something else. Sometimes I make money on them but most times I don't. I consider any loss a rental fee.

Value the experience, not the stuff. I have never understood collectors with rooms full of shit.
>>
>>34140371
I don't think I have too many guns but earlier today I realized I have enough guns and stuff so the only thing I really want more of is ammo. I just got a new range bag and I think it's too big so I might get a smaller one. I might get a new gun that I don't care about so I won't mind losing it if I ever have to defend myself. I already have a 12 gauge for hd that I wouldn't mind losing but a carry pistol that I hate would be nice.
>>
>>34140371
save your damn money OP, then you buy guns. Never the other way around, or else you may need to sell them when things get tough.
>>
>>34140598
I probably go twice a month at least. Sometimes more. I went three times last week alone.
>>
>>34140631
Are you just ventilating dirt or do you show up at the range with training/performance goals?
>>
>>34140683
Usually I ventilate dirt and paper to be honest.
>>
>>34140627
Never sell guns they give you a terrible return. It's like renting a gun for half of the msrp.
>>
>>34140703
Maybe pick one shooting discipline and spend your time and money increasing your skills instead of spending your time and money increasing your stuff? I'm only saying that because if you didn't feel something was wrong with your acquisitive exploits you wouldn't be in here posting about it. Somehow you seem to feel collecting guns for collecting's sake is not good for you or is not giving you what you want. My advice is stop buying shit and try to get really good at something and see if that makes you feel like you think you should.
>>
>>34140753
Fantastic advice.

Part of the problem is that I fear I am going to wear my guns out, so I buy an extra in the category.

This is not a good spending practice.
>>
>>34140794
No problem buying a duplicate of your CCW imo as well as having plenty of spare parts. You should be shooting the shit out of your CCW regularly and after thousands and thousands of rounds shit will fail eventually. And if you ever have to use it in a defensive encounter you will lose it to the cops for a while so a backup could fill that time gap.

As far as wearing out some range toy, wear that fucker out and THEN replace it lol. I bet you'll be surprised how much life you will get out of them. Guns are durable goods if properly maintained.
>>
>>34140494
Once it does, get ready to feel the fucking burn.
>>
>>34140461
What the fuck do you do for a living to get all those guns?
>>
>>34141266
I'm a 25 year old single male, living in a shared apartment so my expenses are non-existent.

And I work for a fintech company as an analyst.
>>
For some reason, I keep inheriting or getting gifted Fuddguns I have no interest in. I'm a milsurp guy, but now there's like a half-dozen bolt-action durrguns and .22 plinkers stacked in cases because they won't fit in my lockers with the good stuff.

I really need to haul them all down to the pawn shop before rust sets in.
>>
>>34140371
You can only fire one at a time.
>>
>>34141655
I have two hands.
>>
>>34141328
How much a year?
>>
>>34140461
Wow. 11 guns. Or is that 4 AR-15 uppers? How many AR-15 lowers do you have?

I own 83 firearms. Let this thread die and come back when you have more than 50.
>>
>>34141728
All the guns have their own lower. I actually have two more.

>>34141710
About 65k
>>
>>34140461
i own 7 transferable full autos. get on my level.
Group Industries Uzi
Ruger AC556
Olympic Arms CAR-15
Springfield Armory BM-59
SWC Sterling
Armalite AR-18
Chinese AKS-47 (Type 56)
>>
>>34141837
I wish I had money like that! Cool stuff!
>>
>>34140461
Dude, last month I bought
S&W 629-4
S&W 629-5
Springfield TRP
S&W Model 10
Springfield Loaded
Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless

That's in a month. Sometimes there are just good deals to be had. Keep what you like, sell what you don't, just make sure to always buy low and sell for at least a small profit. Then you can justify buying anything you want because you're always making a few bucks.
>>
>>34141837
Prove it bitch nigga
>>
>>34141901
Fuck, thats a lot of metal.
>>
>>34141974
I've owned so many plastic browning action pistols, that shit gets really boring after a while. They're literally all the same.
>>
>>34140371

If you're making good money and you're not at risk of getting yourself in financial trouble (e.g. no emergency funds), I don't see what the problem is.

If you have a goal of saving for a down payment for a car or house, then you'll have to set up a financial plan and budget. If not, more money for funs.
>>
>>34140371
you forget what and how many guns you own after a while. after 100 and digging through the safe you'll be like "oh yeah I forgot I had this gun, damn I bought another last week thinking I didn't have one"
>>
>>34142291
Of all people i'm glad you responded <3.
>>
>>34140371
If you have an emergency (cash) fund set up then do what you want. You should probably have 6 months on hand
>>
>>34142338
<3
the addiction only gets worse, trust me. I was so addicted I quit a white collar job just to work as a gunsmith for a few years.

But Then I wanted to buy guns on demand again.. so it's back to white collar for me I guess
>>
>>34142405
Of all the faggots you had to respond
>>
>>34140631
It sounds like you haven't gone full retard yet. My advice is to think about which guns you enjoy shooting most or have a genuine need for. Keep those, and sell the rest off for fair prices.
Then keep going to the range, take some lessons, and just commit yourself to shooting rather than guns. You'll be happier and enjoy your guns more.
>>
>>34142405
You work as a developer correct?
>>
>>34142439
yeah, senior software engineer
pays for the addiction and wife + kid.
>>
>>34142452
Has Mugi had the baby already? Crazy.

I should have learned to code instead of crunch numbers. Big mistake on my part.
>>
>>34142419
>>34142391
>>34142079
Thanks for all the good advice guys, I have an emergency fund setup. I guess I'm not used to having real disposable income after school and all. I'll proceed and buy what I want.
>>
>>34142467
she births next month, but based on ((estimates)) it shouldn't be a problem.

and crunching numbers you can still learn to code, I work with a guy who taught math for many years, learned programming on the side, and now makes bank as a programmer.
>>34142483
Yeah when you have money for the first time, you really can't believe it, and you just want to blow it all on every cool thing you see.. then you realize ya gotta save for the future, budget etc. Especially once you get married, buy a house, get a car...

once you get out of the entry/mid level jobs, and the money /rrealllyy/ starts flowing, it's fucking nice.

65k is amazing for right out of college, if you keep it up, get some years behind you, and then get into senior positions, you'll be hitting 6 figures easy

or at least that's the case in software development.
>>
>>34142582
I feel blessed to be doing what i'm doing. I essentially work as an integration specialist making sure that our developers understand exactly how third party API's are setup. Basically, my job is to make sure our developers never have to be bothered by our software partners.

Congrats on the baby by the way.
>>
>>34141837

>no pics
>>
>>34142619
Thanks!

and yeah that should serve you well, honestly, once you are settled withing a company you feel you can work for the rest of your life, buy land.

Then you can have property you can casually enjoy all your funs with.

No close neighbors to bother you, privacy, can gunsmith in peace.

You'll find eventually you'll desire that the more you get into guns,

at least that was the case for me.
>>
>>34142740
Luckily being in Utah, there is no shortage of good cheap(ish) land.
>>
>>34141837
>no ump

Fuck off
>>
>>34142751
yeah land is a little more expensive where I'm at, mostly because lumber makes a lotttt of money here, so land is a very valuable resource .
>>
>>34142887
Definitely understandable. I'm hoping to buy 30 or so acres of scrub eventually.
>>
>>
>>34140371
Absolutely OP, I only have three guns because of this feel.
>>
>>34141579
Where do you live?
>>
>>34140371
Those guns will increase in value faster then your interest. Guns are a better then having nothing when the grid goes down.
>>
>>34143408
that's only true for surplus or guns that are not made anymore.
>>
The problem is that you're spending money on guns you otherwise don't need. Spend that money on ammo and a good class, it's more enjoyable to have fewer guns and a high proficiency level with them imho.
>>
>>34140461

Lmfao you have nothing.

Come back when you have some quantity over 100 and need spreadsheets to track them and the ammunition.

Everyone ramped up purchases a little because of the election last November. If you're worried about finances than slow to half speed. Save half of the money and buy guns and gun accessories with the other half. You'll still get guns and you'll still save.
>>
>>34140371
Spend the money on joining a gun club so you can shoot more
>>
>>34140371
>Should I just buy it and move on?

not unless you want to have a zillion guns

get some professional help, ie. counseling, and start selling that crap

otherwise when you get a traffic ticket, some bright detective will notice you also own 100+ guns and they will get nervous

or you will descend into madness because of your untreated psychological problems

really it's not worth it
>>
>>34146175
Do you not want a zillion guns?
>>
>>34140371
>haven't been putting anything away into savings (beyond $700 a month into my 401k)
>(beyond $700 a month into my 401k)

That's way more than the average person saves a month. You are doing fine.
>>
>>34147079

yes i did but that was awhile back & sold them when got tired of having 15 safe queens and only going shooting 1 every 3-4 months

now that i'm approaching old geezer status i'm more concerned about owning 1-2 shooters i practice with every 2 weeks
>>
I'll stop at 100 and start swapping at that point. Currently at 43 I think
