I notice the last character is 63 but can't figure out the others, regardless not North Korean
I've been away from and haven't shot my baby and first ever gun for way too long.
>>34140065
Throw that banana clip in the trash and use the factory mag

>>34140174
Is that just some random pouch you stuck on there? What do you use it for?
Im moving to AZ in 2 months. Can I get one of these over there cheaply? Im from California, so I currently am noguns
>>34140220
it has an oil bottle inside, they were standard issue with yugos
>>34140245
Damn, those look neat. I got the sling but that's all. The autist in me still needs to have a cleaning rod and original buttstock cleaning kit for mine to be 100% satisfied, and now apparently I need this too
51 Tula, matching apart from the mag.
>>34139569
Bubba'd mine a little..
>>34140275
Do you have a refurb like me? I have the same autism and had to get all the missing parts. Check desert fox sales they have everything except the cleaning rod. My cleaning rod was too long and I had to saw some of it off.
Canadian here. I've been thinking about getting into guns these days and I hear that the SKS is pretty much the best bang-for-your-buck gun you can buy in Canuckistan. One thing I'm a little concerned about is that I'm a pretty inexperienced shooter and I've heard people talk about developing a flinch with guns like this. Will this be an issue or not? Are there better first guns in roughly the same price range?
>>34139569
>bubba scope
RIFLE IS FINE NYET
>>34140304
I never bothered to look into the real ways to tell but it was in such clean shape when I got it that I feel like it either had to be that or completely unissued before it got imported. Although I did have to get a whole new bolt assembly shortly after I bought it, but I attribute that issue to being a general fluke of a thing. Also thanks for the heads-up on that website, looks like it'll be my salvation
>>34140361
Can't speak for better guns in the price range for Canada, but as far as the flinch thing goes the weight of an SKS vs 7.62x39 leads to fairly soft recoil. You could do much better and should prolly start on a .22, but it's not bad
Mine unfortunately came with the tapco 20 round mag and although I told myself I would get an original box mag it kinda grew on me and they work pretty well so I figured spending 60 bucks on a box mag wasn't really worth it to cure my autism
>>34140361
Technically there are better first guns but any burger will be jealous of your ability to buy one way cheaper than us so there's that driving force at least. I can't imagine a .22 being more expensive for y'all, but I am not Canadian so I can't say for sure.
SKS's aren't bad as far as recoil goes, as >>34140402
said they're pretty hefty and 7.62 Russian isn't a particularly bitter round so it's really more the roughness of trigger and action that gets people more than anything. The only person I've ever had that strongly disliked firing mine was my high school buddy's girlfriend, but she was like, 60 pounds and a strong breeze could've knocked her over so I consider it an outlier
>>34140231
CA has a better selection of SKSs. A lot of them ended up there because it's ban compliant. People ended up with collections of them when they were cheap and we're selling them off during the Obama scare when they were worth a lot. That's how I got my museum grade Tula.
If I were you I'd check out the selection on calguns. You're going to pay ~150 more but the quality may be worth it. Over here you're going to get some bubba's beater gun. Serious, search SKS on our sports section on backpage if you feel like gagging.
>>34140402
Thanks for the input, anon.
>>34140498
Yeah, a .22 would be about the same price as an SKS over here, so I figured I might as well get something more rugged and versatile than a little plinker. I've got a friend who has an SKS that I could shoot to see if I like it though, so I think that'll be the deciding factor between the two options.
>>34139569
why the fuck would you buy more than 1 SKS????
>>34140400
Probably unissued, refurbs have a TRB (technical refurbishment bureau) stamp and usually have the muzzle device removed or replaced with a flash hider. Also removed grenade sights.
Anyone able to find one of these for sale? 20 rounds Chinese fixed mag.
>>34140630
>He's never owned an SKS
>>34140688
I *do* own an SKS
it's lovely to shoot but otherwise boring
I can get behind this
>>34140297
It's ok nobody expected a no good nigger to know better
How much do you think I could get for selling the norinco?
>>34140713
the same can be said for any other gun out there. different strokes for different folks
>>34140713
I never understood why people get upset over a shitty surplus rifle
>>34140751
I disagree - you can do all kinds of shit to an AR15; you can own ten AR15s and have them all be different. SKSes, not so much. They're all just SKSes.
Has anyone ever seen an sks with a relief cut by the dust cover takedown lever?
>>34140630
Because paratroopers are fucking sweet.
>>34140778

>>34140732

>>34140778
Wrong!
There is many different sks from each country that have their own quirks.you even have oddities such as the sksm or paratrooper, or even the yugo with its grenade launcher. And unlike ars their value can only go up.
>>34141265
You're right, however, of all guns to go hardcore collector on, why the sks? why not one that has more collector value or more history? If you say semi auto, then why not an svt or some such.
>>34141057
Well thank you, anon!
>>34140382
I mean, at least it's a Russian optic and seems to be done somewhat tastefully, I wouldn't say it's a true Bubba.
Someone in my area is selling a supposedly unfired chink SKS for $450. Should I go for it? I already have an arsenal refurb laminate Tula (aka best-KS)
How would the quality compare?
>>34141294
>3 guns
>hardcore collection
Its not even a start
>why not SVT
-Rarity and cost. I can buy three of four sks's for the cost of one SVT
-paratrooper is lighter and handier than an SVT so its easier to store and transport
-Ammo is easier to get
>>34139569
Shitty phone pic but here's my Chinese /316\. I'm thinking about getting a heatshield and bluing an Albanian bolt carrier.
>>34140297
I hope you get nigger AIDS
Hey guys I just bought an sks from the gunshop its my first gun. where is the button for auto mode? like I know its an ak type gun so its auto but I cant find it.
>>34139569
What SKS carbine is that in the middle?
>>34141653
appears to be a Simonov carbine
>>34141651
this is probably the lowest effort bait ive seen come on man you can do better
>>34141651
there's a little lever on the very rear of the receiver above the trigger, just flip that up and pull it outwards, that lets the bolt come all the way back.

I don't remember the rest of the dream but I've wanted an SKS ever since and my LGS had a bubba'ed one last time I was in there for ~400$.
>mfw it was a Norinco
should I?
>>34144119
>bubba'd norinco
Maybe for 300. Get one in as close to the original configuration as possible because at this rate you can trade one for a garand in a few years
>>34140637
I've been looking for one this past week. The guns shows here in AZ are pretty big so maybe I'll have some luck there
>>34144119
oh holy fuck i'm dying laughing.
400 is too high for a bubba'd sks. If your state has a guntrader site i'd keep my eye on it
Big and small SKS
>>34145937
thats a Tokarev rifle. THIS is a big SKS...
>tfw some dumbass dremeled the bayonet lug off
Still got a good deal on it though, just bums me out a little.
>>34146522
are you sure? I thought some chinese sks' came from the factory without bayonets. Import reasons and such.
>>34146543
Nope, it looks like it was just scrubbed off.
>>34146558
darn
>>34139569
Anybody know a good place to pick up a Sks in California?
>>34146570
Yeah it sucks. Trying to find a front sight block with a bayonet lug on it online is a pain in the ass. I found one online but when I bought it it was the Paratrooper model FSB, not the normal 20 inch one. I'm curious as to whether I can de-pin that and still make it work somehow, but I doubt it.
Posting my shiny Yugo.
>>34140297
A little? Throw that shit in the nearest lake and go buy a fidget spinner figget
>>34146731
Yes, that sounds like a reasonable course of action.
>>34139569
I got a carbine version as well, any idea where to get a 13.5" cleaning rod without cutting one down?
Really like the wood on mine
>>34147078
Fiery.
Does anyone still make dummy grenades or adapters for tennis/golf balls? All the sites I've found are dead.
How do I make sure I'm buying a legit SKS? I'm in Canada. I hear people on here complaining about norincos or chink-made SKSs. I'm new to guns so would appreciate the help. I saw one online for like $250 Canadian but how do I know it's a good one?

'Nam bringback Type 56, 1967 manufacture. Guy who sold it to me told me he captured it a few days after the start of the Tet Offensive. There's gook blood on the original NVA sling
>>34147832
Collection pic, but you can see the wood and blood a bit better
>>34145931
At first I was confused by the magazine, then I noticed the muzzle device and got angry.
>>34140297
>stock costs more than the rifle
Anon what the fuck where is your front sight post, wait for that matter where is the rear? is that red dot whatever permanently attached? what have you done anon
>>34147843
Lovely sks, reminds me of mine. War bring back probably close to yours in serial number and production. Gave it to a friend who will never misuse or sell it and I can always ask for it back. The story is more important than the rifle in some cases, these being some of the examples.
>>34147964
Do you remember the serial on yours? Mine is specifically from June 1967. I only bought it because of the history behind it, but it made me love the SKS as a platform.
>>34147964
It's a Choate stock, believe I got it for about $80. Also, I cropped/recrowned the barrel down to 17". I can order one of those paratrooper sights if I feel like replacing the red dot.
I replaced the rear sight with a rail, and the red dot.
I can replace the stock and rail with the old sights, if I do want to revert back.
It's more wieldy (to me) than it was with the grenade attachment and bayonet.
Either way, I've enjoyed attempting to turn it into a scout-esque rifle.
>>34139629
Where did you get the stock?
>>34139569
Anybody know a damn thing about arsenal 966?
>>34147078
Canadian detected
>>34149753
And the second I post it I realize that it is a 3 and not a 9.
>>34150046
Hmmmmm what makes you think that?
>>34150507
Because that's really not how the wood on your SKS looks. Its beech blonde and you dripped maple syrup on it. I can smell it from here, try harder hoser
>>34149288
its factory. Its a norinco type M
>>34150507
I'm Canadian, just a friendly guess. Our sks's our generally better than the ones in the states, and cheaper
>>34147078
What year is yours? I have one that looks pretty much the same (on the left in >>34139710 )
>>34151600
1954 Tula
Chinese Paratrooper 16"
Need to take a better picture.
>>34151600
Here's another pic. I Should've specified that its a letter series "I" rifle
>>34151651
I checked my dust cover, has a "G" right next to the year
>>34151670
interesting. Do all the parts have matching serial #'s?
>>34151703
Yep, 100 percent
>>34151713
Just remembered, if its the russian "G" next to the year its just their abbreviation for "year"
>>34151742
That makes sense.
Did some googling, seems that both of our guns have some form of Arctic birch for their stocks.
Wonder why that is
>>34151785
IIRC the russians put laminate stocks on the bulk of refurbished rifles starting near the end of production- apparently(only heard this on other forums) a good way to tell that a rifle that does have any of the normal refurb marks has been refurbished is to look at the pattern of wood thats on the gastube. If it matches, its likely the original stock, but if it doesn't, its a refurbed rifle. There were some rifles outfitted with the laminate stocks from the factory from what I understand, but it was a pretty small quantity.
>>34151850
I just reread that garble, man I should probably go to sleep. Night fellas
