An answer to a problem that didn't exist

I like piston AR, he does cool stuf like shoot the terrists and doesnt afraid of anything
>>
>>34137061

The manufacturers should get together and agree on a standardized piston AR architecture. As it stands you have likely over a dozen mainstream manufacturers making piston ARs and every single one is different. In so doing they have eliminated one of the best parts of the AR, its modularity.

Beyond retarded. The gas in the DI system could easily just push against the area where the gas key is. But it doesn't. It enters inside the bolt carrier for a reason. This keeps all forces completely inline with with the carriers direction of travel. Piston ars have more weight, more reciprocating mass, and the carrier tilt problem because forces are no longer in line. This isn't worth the "benefits".

Just make sure you don't submerge your AR15 and immediately shoot it (you're not a seal this is a nonissue) and don't soak your AR in lube. As long as you have proper working gas rings and only use single drops of lube where they are needed you really don't even need to clean it more than you would any other gun

These.

The AR has spent decades being optimized and troubleshot.

The last thing you need is to start again with a system that nobody uses.
>>
>>34137061
It's a meme.
>>
Aren't they better if you're constantly using a suppressor?

Otherwise a meme.
>>
>>34138329
Seriously it fucking is. I unironically have a 5.45 AR and I still would never want a piston system

The Marines use them. That's really all that needs to be said on the subject.
>>
>Have AR
>Overplaying carrier tilt issue to compensate for not being able to afford a piston AR
>Not being able to fire from underwater
Stay mad DI fags
>>
>>34138287
The amount of reciprocating mass is the same since a certain amount of mass is required to avoid carrier bounce. There is a reason buffers are weighed.
>>
>>34137061

I'm not super familiar with them, but it seems like most don't use the full aftermarket of AR parts. And they're usually pretty pricey. If I wanted a piston gun I'd be leaning more towards a SCAR, Bren, MCX, XCR, etc. It seems like those guns are better alternatives to a piston AR.
>>
-heavier in the worst spot (the front)
-more moving parts to break
-more reciprocating mass
-more heat where your hand goes

+Keeps the BCG clean
+Keeps the BCG cooler
+Adjustable is good for suppression

I went DI just because I want the lighter front end.
>>
>>34138368
That you have to be a crayon eater to fall for piston ARs?
>>
>>34137061
Mostly useless.

There may be some advantages to it if going SBR or suppressed. Currently planning a .300 pistol built with plans to eventually SBR and suppress. Convince me to go piston? Or is a standard gas system good enough?

>>34138348
I would have thought 5.45 would be one few reasons to reasons to have a piston, since the cheap ammo is corrosive. I'd rather not have that stuff in my BCG.
>>
>>34138851
Bingo.
>>
>>34138938
>cheap ammo is corrosive.

Not anymore. Thanks Obama.
>>
>>34137061
Only good if you're using an AR designed for it. An AR designed for a gas tube is just gonna fuck with the barrel harmonics.
>>
>>34138368
The Army use DI rifles. That's really all that needs to be said on the subject.

Just get a non-AR, TBQH. I actually have nothing against them, I just think I prefer other piston guns. I f you want a SECOND upper, then okay I guess.
>>
I don't know how practical this logic is but according to some demonstrations the 416 system is good at heat management
I assumed that was the reason for the marines adopting it as a SAW

Problem is magizine capacity
Anyone think it's possible to redesign the magwell to facilitate a better quad mag design? I know surefies have gotten better but I believe the issue is having to cram back into double stack
>>
>>34138985
Only issue with piston AR is the cam pin channel is too short. If you make it long like the SCAR, a piston AR is perfectly fine.
>>
>it's not an AR
t. buddy who bought an mcx
>>
>>34138287
>tfw I soak that fucker in WD-40 specialist rust preventer
>tfw AR is mostly aluminum so no rust anyways
Ah well. It looks like a muzzleloader the first couple of shots after I clean it. I kinda wished it came in a dropper bottle.
>>
>>34137061
AR is designed around it's meme gas system. Taking it away kills AR.
>>
b,,but muh HK-416, seal team sikhs and over-the-beach capability!
>>
you have no idea what the fuck youre talking about
any of you

Piston ARs are largely unnecessary, but still... if you like it and it works, wai not?
>>

Watch out guise we have an active duty 4chan poster
>>
>>34137061
A little heavier
A little harder to clean
Requires a higher level of trust that the company knows what it's doing (DI ARs are a known quantity, unless I.O. starts making them)
>>
>>34144232
Easier* to clean. Jesus

carrier tilt, still happens even on H&K rifles.
>>
>>34138851
Don't forget the glue.
>>
Ok for supressors, not really worth it for regular shooting
>>
>>34145457
Hasn't been an issue in 4000 rounds, buffer tube and bolt lugs running fine. I don't give much of a shit about the buffer tube, but we'll see if the lugs are still wearing evenly closer to 6-8000.

For the record though, finding floating handguards was a bitch compared to my franken DI gun.
