Cheapest one I can get will run me close to 500 dollars, any better non AR alternatives I should look at for a semi auto?
>>
>>34135731
not for fucking 500 bucks

where are you that an sks costs 500
>>
>>34135731
just buy a wasr for $500
>>
>>34135737
No fun New York, converted ARs that are in compliance with their shit laws are going for 800+
>>
>>34135753

this

and you don't have to feel bad about fucking it up because it's already a piece of shit

No
>>
>>34135753
Looks nice but I'd have to modify it to be in accordance with the SAFE act, because pistol grips is what make a rifle scary and dangerous.
>>
>>34135758
i'm almost positive you can get SKSes for like 300 bucks at NY gunshows
>>
>>34135753

>WASR
>$500

More like $600 these days.
>>
>>34135731
500 dollars for a gun that used to go for 300 is not a good deal. They're fine rifles, but you can get much better shit for that price

SKSs are fucking cool, man, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Depends on the specific example, but I think they're still worth it at $500--the price has gone up, but that's a reflection of scarcity. Try negotiating with the lgs, and you might find they're willing to let go of it for less. Most long guns don't move as quickly as handguns, so odds are pretty good the one you're looking at has been sitting there for a while and maybe you can get yourself a deal.
>>
>>34135900
If I do pick one up should I look for a specific model? I've heard the Chinese ones are pretty slick but others swear by the Russian models.
>>
Whats the going price of a all matching russian sks with very little wear?

>>34135934
$600-800

If you are near Albany check out the gunstore on western between Schenectady and Albany they have options and not turbojew prices just typical Jew York or go to PA DE VT or OH depending on where you are
>>
>>34135785
Not lately Arisaka and Lee Enfields galore at the capital gun show and all kinds of of less common caliber levers and hunting bolt actions but safe compliant semis were barely in existence
>>
>>34135900
Different in NY where you need a permit to purchase let alone transport a pistol legally but out of state rifle purchases are fine unless you are NYC then you need a permit for long guns too
>>
Get a Hi Point .45 Carbine!

Are they Legal in NY! Jezzz!

Pistol grip semi auto: nope too many scary assault features
>>
>>34136177
Exactly, you don't need a pistol grip for hunting deer, ban this sick filth!
>>
>>34136188
Look here Hitler you above anyone should understand the need to remove vermin hiding out in the woods by any means necessary. But seriously with the hipoint having detachable magazines without any way to modify it you would need to rig some kind of straight pull bolt and even then the magazine may be too low on the grip

>>34135731
If you want it, get it.
The sks will just do exactly what you expect it to do. It'll throw 762x39 downrange with reasonable accuracy and be a neat addition to your gun room. Stripper clips are also fun as hell to use.
If you aren't satisfied with that, then move on, either to an ak, or a vz58 which is basically an improved sks 2.0

I recently bought a yugo refurb for 500 after all fees. I really love the damn thing. Enjoy shooting it just as much as my other raifus.
>>
>>34136327
The older thin guy with white hair was awesome for info when I was looking for a 357 lever. The chiapa wasn't for me but he gave a good run down on what is out there in production and in what price range. I think he is only in on Tuesdays though
>>
>>34135731
For only a few hundred dollars more you could get a low end AR (which these days are fairly decent) or a WASR (which ironically are some of the best AK's on the American market these days).

At this point there's no reason to buy an SKS unless you just really want an SKS.
>>
>>34136683
Basically this even in NY there are plenty of safe ak patterns
>>
>>34136713

List some.

I'd avoid commercial production Chinese. Albanian are good as collectors items not shooters. Russian, yugo and military chinese are all good for regular shooting. A non refurb unissued Russian is top of the heap.

Chop job wasr vepr and arsenal that have pistol grips cut to just above the mag well and bayonet lugs removed with 2 10 round magazines $600-900 depending on model and shop. Personally I am going the spur grip ar route but that's just me having more parts and experience with that design

Not anymore, unless you just really fucking have to have an SKS. They are too expensive for what they are. Get an AK.

Personally, I wanted to buy one of the unissued Yugo's that Classic Firearms had for sale. They were out by the time I saved the shekels, but they said they had NRA Good condition ex-Serbian police yugo trade ins.

So I bought a yugo for
$440
+$10 for hand select
+$30 or so tax
+$20 transfer fee. ($500 total)

And the fucking thing had rust on the bolt face, bayonet, and the stock has mildew damage.

I still like it. But god damn I overpaid.

Fuck Classic Firearms. I don't think I'd be so butt hurt if I hadn't paid the extra for the "hand select".

I'm considering refinishing the stock, because I think it looks fucking awful.

Prices on SKS have exploded, literally kind of stunning

I paid $500 for a non refurb Tula about a year maybe a little longer ago. There's enough SKSs out there where I think you could still find nice ones for about that price but the average nowadays is crazy

Hey this seems like a good place to asks.bought some cheapo sks clips from a gunshow for my sks.when i try to feed them in the gun i guess j used toomuch force the clip goes through the guide and into the magazine, this happened on almost every clip on the 20 pack, is this normal? The nubs looked to have worn off.
>>
>>34137663
I'd ask around and find one you can handle and examine in a LGS or a pawn shop. Since the ones classic is selling aren't unissued there's no way to know round count anyway. I wouldn't buy from that surplus lot, not for $429+shipping+ffl. You're definitely rolling the dice for what kind of a gun you'll get. The rust scrubbed off of mine but the stock still looks (imo) grubby. I bought mine hoping for a NRA Very Good wallhanger/occasional shooter (since I like the SKS aesthetic) and I might refinish or replace the stock. Kinda wish I'd returned it and saved a little more to buy a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 instead.

good luck anon
>>
>>34137497

Short answer you don't. NY creates some pants on head retarded mods that are sold as if it was a normal configuration

If you want one, grab it now before the price gets too high. Then have fun with it and flip it for 4 times it's value in 10 years. Shit dude, my angry chinaman surplus rifle cost me $335 a year ago, and now I see commercial ones in awful condition going for $400+

Don't wait if you want it.

It's worth it to me. $250 CAD for a nice Russian SKS. Also SVT 40s are affordable. However these few guns are the only good thing about living in Canada.
>>
>>34138551

Yeah except thats like 1000 dollars not 300-500 like an sks. Which, by the way, shoot for a lot cheaper. They are good guns but comparing a $1k rifle to one that isnt even half of that isnt exactly "a better deal".
>>
Hell no dude you can get a basic bitch AR for that price.
>>
>>34135900
I agree. If OP lived elsewhere, I may be hesitant to spend $500; however, in New York or Cali, may as well get the sks. It's reliable, and just a fun gun to shoot.

>>34138492

>>
>>34135731
hipoint carbine if you don't mind being judged for a poorfag. alternatively an amd65
>>
>>34140593
Only problem is I'd have to mod either of those either making them fixed mag or adding a rifle grip.
>>
>>34137764
The aftermarket ones generally feed like garbage on most rifles. There are some youtube videos out there on how to make them work better.
>>
This makes me want to ask, I'm looking to get one as well. I have a buddy who sells his surplus SKS's (he's got around 400), and he said he'd find a Yugoslavian SKS with grenade launcher and battle markings (for example, one of his other SKS's had the name of the last soldier that wielded it and had various words and tally marks on the stock) for me and bring it to the next gun show for me. He's going to be asking around 390-450 for it. What do you think?
>>
>>34141559
OP here, sounds like a pretty solid deal, if your friend is up for it is be willing to buy one.
>>
>>34136922
The only reason I want to be a Canadian is the sick Russian imports
>>
CA fag here I feel your pain.

You're late on the sks band wagon. Theyre too expensive now the time to buy was long ago. It's hard to justify purchasing one now look into other guns.

Just go featureless if that is your only option. There also is 80%ers.

I'm the guy you're responding to, it's not fucking worth it god fucking damn it. We're so goddam cucked it's not even funny. If our glorious constables have any reason to search your dwelling/house and you're a gun owner, they CAN AND WILL bend you over and fuck you dry with a cactus and will lay dozens of bullshit charges. It takes years and a fortune to fight it and they'll try and get you to cuck with a bullshit deal that'll inevitably include you never owning guns again. They'll target your spouse and kids as well.

Rant aside, the only cheap Russian import left is the SKS, Mosins have gone up to prices not worth paying and SVT-40s have been sold out from retailers for over a month with no more coming in anytime soon.

Stay in USA, Ameribro.

You could buy those for $130 back in the early 1990s. They are a cheap, technologically ancient, mass-produced rifle. The only thing cool about them was that badass looking integral bayonet. Save up another $100 and get a Kalashnikov or V-2008. You owe it to yourself to own a dignified rifle.
