I'm watching news about the fighting in the Philippines versus ISIS' Flip fanboys when I saw this footage of a bomb being divebombed by a Flip OV-10 Bronco.
What kind of bomb is this? Didn't seem to have much effect on the target.
Considering it can carry up to 500 lb and the size, I'd guess a 250 lb bomb.

Is that a precision munition? Does seem to have something jutting out the nose, unless that's a stand-off fuse.
>>34135059
Also wobbles back and forth a lot. Bang bang guidance?
>>34135059
>Is that a precision munition?
No,they literally killed 10 of their own guys and 20ish more injured yesterday.
>>34134961
is that a motherfucking Bronco?
seriously?
that's fucking sweet
>>34134961
The Mark 82 (Mk 82).
>>34135273
More likely a Mk 81
>>34135072
That dont mean its not precise, its just that you aimed wrong

>>34135059
>>34135071
Divebombing with a smart bomb would be very stupid and unnecessary.

Why can't flips put rocket launchers on their Broncos?
Like normal people.
>>34139562
A strange mix. Somehow it's the worst ever, somehow it's also the best ever.
I saw the picture and thought that this would be some shit from the early 60's at the latest.

The flips just really love their 'nam aesthetics.

I think it's an extended fuse
Fuel tank
>>34140816
Or a sensor pod, but it's not a munition
>>34140804
It was definitely a slick, pilot was just that on point
>>34134961
hhhnnnnnggg. It's fun enough watching the CalAir Bronco in the summer, it'd be a gas to watch Flips bombing jihadis in one.
>>34141026
That blur job was pretty awful.
Imagine what they're going to do with those fun-size Salaffi fucks if they take any alive.

>FA-50s and OV-10s
THIS is what a COIN air campaign should look like; not F-16s and B-1s.
>>34141282
They were also looking at the Super Tucano. Would have been cool here.

>>34141299
A good idea indeed.
>>34141272
Too bad there's no PH equivalent of the Kurds to join on the battlefield.
>>34141425
You mean third party nationalists? They do: the Moro Nationalists.
Which is stupid really because there's a foggy line that separates the nationalists from the terrorists and they cross that all the time.
The Philippine government really has this stupid tendency to think these people are the "reasonable" rebels, when they can just go terrorist at the drop of the hat, like what happened in 2013.
>>34134961
Holy shit, they are using stacks of cardboard to stop RPGs from hitting their APCs. I mean, what the fuck? is that even possible?

I think he specifically meant people involved in fighting the Salaffis as civilian augmentees to the military.
>>34141425
That'd be the CAFGU, but unfortunately they don't hire foreigners.
>>34141879
Kinda, yeah. Detonates the warhead early and forces it to go through a porous material that disrupts the armor piercing copper-jet.
>>34142000
Huh, okay then, I guess those stories about the marines using coconut lumber as extra armor for their vehicles during the 2000 campaign holds up.
>>34135043
Fucking same. What I wouldn't give to be a Bronco driver doing some coin.

>>34142789
It is. They said it stopped the RPGs from penetrating their vehicles. Also noteworthy were passages from the Lord's Prayer scribbled on the front and side armor.

>>34144035
add on/slat armor has been seen in pretty much any conflict involving outdated gear and shaped charge AT weaponry. If you can make the warhead explode at a higher distace the liner jet will loose shape and achieve less penetration. Slat armor works differently (by hopefully deforming the shaped charge before explosion to prevent optimal formation of the liner jet) but it goes in the same direction.
Doubt it helps against modern ATGMs with ridiculous penetration though.
>>34144500
It depends.
Against hand-held weapons, it's actually rather effective, as long as the added armor is a good distance away. Not so much use against shells, tho.
>>34144500
It's paper not slat armor.
>Tfw chairforce fags robbed the best coin aircraft of its chance to shine!
>>34145835
obviously. I just didn't have an image of schuerzen at hand which are supposed to work in a similar way against shaped charges.

COIN planes should be under control of the Army Aviation Branch alongside the choppers.
It's not like the USA armed forces are already a whore house with everyone having their own private navy/army/specops/ICBMs/USO
