So people bitch about the recoil on these things constantly, yet used versions still sell for 1,000$ and above. What gives? I was thinking I could find a "good" deal.
>>

In my experience, people don't bitch so much as humble brag. It's their way of saying "I have a big as fuck revolver, look at all the recoil it makes."
>>
>>34134018
Ah, that makes sense. I haven't bought many guns in my life time at least in comparison to most enthusiasts, I'm noticing that used guns usually aren't that much cheaper.
>>
>>34134018
This.

I think people keep them around just to pull them out and make Tim Allen grunting noises once in a while, even if they hate shooting them.

The one that gets me is people bitching about .44. My friend has an early Model 29 with wood grips and everything, and it's fucking fine, I actually love shooting the thing. The recoil is more of a "shove" than a "snap" and it's much easier to handle than, say, a compact 1911 with lots of sharp edges.
>>
>>34134004
Its retarded anyway.

The only good gun I've seen in .500 magnum is that custom levergat one of the utubers has.
>>
>>34134035
Who do you think it was? Was it an old guy?
>>
>>34134025
The worst ones are the people who try to sell their used guns at or above msrp.
>>
>>34134004
Shot once at a range, would not spend to own one. At least with a .460 you can shoot .45 Colt and .454 Casull as well.
>>
>>34134066
Yeah, I wouldn't pay over 700 for one, but if the deal arose I would get it.

Smart man.

Fuck that X frame abortion. Its a modern rifle round.

Get a Hand-rifle in 500 S&W for like $300.

Shoots 700gr T-Rex loads just fine.

I want to shoot a 500 with the muzzle brake to see if it kicks harder that my .454 casull without. Looking at some videos online it might.
>>
>>34134004

It's a conversation piece, status symbol, and penis-compensator, not a weapon that anyone was ever intended to enjoy shooting
>>
>>34137660
I've shot an 8" 500 smith with a muzzle brake before. It still had significant recoil and muzzle flip.

i have 2. in my opinion the recoil from my .44 mag hurts more than the .500 does.
>>
>>34138359
Have you shot it without ear protection?
>>
>>34134531
Are those yours? Which model would you suggest?

>>34138376
why the fuck would i do that
>>
>>34138446
I guess it serves no purpose for home defense
>>
>>34138359
A .44 hurting more than a 2" .500?
Are you holding the .44 cartridges with your fingers while they go off?
>>
>>34138594
Not that guy but google muzzle brake.
>>
>>34134033
Totally agree, with some rubber grips that cover the back strap you can shoot hot 44 all day. Follow up shots are SLOW, but it really is not painful
>>
>>34138599
Muzzle brakes are nice and all but they do not reduce the felt recoil to that of a cartridge producing 2 to 3 times less muzzle energy.
>>
>>34138553
Not that guy but: they're mostly range toys. In certain very specific innawoods situations (i.e. can't carry rifle, big wildlife still a problem) it's useful but otherwise it's good cos it's fun.
Home defence isn't everything, anon. Sure, own a gun for it if you need it, but not EVERY gun needs to be a thug-zapper.
>>
>>34138385

Yes, they're mine. I'm partial to the 5" model. It is still small enough for comfortable carry, the muzzle brake is very effective, and it is still capable of 2000+ FPS muzzle velocities with factory 200gr ammunition. It is an absolute beast.

>>34138692

They might not look it but those brakes are very effective. My 5" X-Frame is a pussy cat with its brake. My 3.5" X-Frame without a brake feels like someone swinging a hammer into your palm using the exact same ammunition.
>>
My next revolver is a bfr in 500 magnum. I have a .44 mag vaquero with a 3.75 inch barrel and birdshead grips i shoot full house loads though, so recoil shouldn't be too much more.
