On a scale from 1-10 how free is your state on gun control? I live in the mormon theocracy of Utah that just passed a law letting 18 year olds purchase guns. Also little to no restrictions on barrel lengths or magazine size.

I'd give IL a 3.5/10, FOID really brings it down, gay as fuck fudd hunting laws. This does not include any of the local laws that Chiraq has or that shitty bill that's on Rauner's desk right now.
>>
NJ 2/10 on the freedom scale
>FPID
>Pistol Permits
>"30 day" wait for any paperwork approval that actually takes on average 3 months
>No permit to carry unless you have connections or a cop
>AWB with a list of banned guns by name
>Only state to ban M1 Carbines by name
>No hollow points ammo
>No armor piercing ammo
>Hunting only with a shotgun or "primitive weapons"
>State doesn't even respect its own laws as far as antiques go (you need a background check to buy a 150 year rifle)
>Can be arrested and charge with a felony for stopping with guns in the car

This state sucks so much. It was only last month that the state recognized that the second amendment holds authority in NJ (and it defends more than just arms of the founders).

Constitutional carry
open carry
Must issue ccw
No waiting on firearm purchasing.

No hog hunting on state land.
Game wardens in the fucking trees.

>>No armor piercing ammo

For hollow points it is only for carrying if you aren't a cop...you can have them at home or take them to a range and use them.
So effectively it means nothing to us plebs as we can't carry.
Armor piercing is strangely the one area NJ quasi makes sense.
Rifle AP is fine, Handgun AP is defined as a bullet with a jacket .025 inches or thicker with a Rockwell B. hardness scale of 72 or greater.

Under this M855 would not be considered AP.

Nevada

Recently the state passed a law to require background checks for private sales of firearms, but it's pretty much a dead law because the FBI will not dedicate any resources to enforce it. Otherwise, it's a pretty good state to live in for guns right now because there's plenty of public land to go out and shoot on.

I would still steer clear of Nevada. More Californians are moving here by the day and we will eventually lose our rights. Likewise, though Henderson is a nice town to live in outside of Las Vegas, it will become scummy because we're building more apartments and even project housing for lower income people.

I plan to move to Utah or somewhere else soon.

>For hollow points it is only for carrying if you aren't a cop...you can have them at home or take them to a range and use them.
>So effectively it means nothing to us plebs as we can't carry.
The catch is, should you be pulled over and have some, the cop will arrest you and the prosecutor will press charges. It is up to you to prove that you had no intention of using it for anything but target practice, especially if you have preloaded magazines. This is an example of how the police don't align with the law.

>Really we are 1/10 on freedom scale
Nah. We could be a lot worse off. We could have our AWB look more like NY or CA but with a police force that would gleefully enforce it statewide. In fact it is only a limited time till NJ losses Christie (and his veto) who for some reason still is looking toward a political career beyond NJ Gov.
>>
Colorado 7/10

Shall-issue, but still pretty easy to get. We do have the mag cap at 15, but that's not really enforced since Colorado sheriffs are smarter than the lawmakers and know that it would be a nightmare to enforce. Open-carry pretty much everywhere in the state, and plenty of gun stores around.

Most of the Progressives are located in the Denver/Boulder areas, so avoiding an Antifa uprising should be easy (alternatively, you can seek them out to fight the crimson tide of Marx).

Plenty of empty forests, deserts, and scrublands for exploring, and even the occasional spooks. Too many potheads and tweakers, though. And way too many Calis moving here.

Idaho loves us. the law basically says if the suppressor (i think it also applies to sbs and sbr etc) was made in Idaho it's fine, doesn't have to be registered and stuff

Maybe 8.5 if we got rid of the pistol registry, with it though we're around 7. Drop the registry (just introduced finally) and add in the constitutional carry bill (if it passes) and we're easily 9.

The 15 round magazine ban was a reality gut check to the changing demographics of the state. 6.5 on the coast, 7.5 north of stone county. Everyone carries and guns are less regulated around here compared to fishing.
>>
Florida is pretty solid. Shall issue, open carry when fishing/hunting/camping, state laws only (no local ordinances can limit), vehicle carry without permit so long as it's concealed and in a snap holster or closed compartment, open carry at home or place of employment okay, employers may not keep you from having gun in vehicle in their parking lot, castle doctrine expanded to stand your ground (no duty to retreat from any place you have a lawful right to be), restrictions loosened further during state of emergency.
But man, let me tell you, concealed carry without a permit and they will fuck you with a long dick. Friend had his G19 IWB while walking from his car to his gf's apartment 2 blocks away, no CCW (I know, stupid) and got tackled by drug unit because they were looking for an Audi (with a different tag number than his.) He had no cash and no drugs but cops searched him for "officer safety" and charged him with a felony.
So, FL is great for firearms generally, but it's a police state when it comes to drug units. I've seen five or six cop cars responding to misdemeanor possession of marijuana stop in my own neighborhood, and there was a search warrant with full tactical SWAT response and body armor for a strip mall pizza joint near my work where a teenage kid sold xanax to a confidential informant a few days earlier. Florida cops are definitely sucking Federal dick on the drug war and are always pulling some kind of secret operation to catch Osama (aka minor league degenerate) committing drug trafficking (aka selling his little brother's Ritalin.)
>>
>>34124790
Maine, 9/10. Consititutional carry and no real extra infringements beyond federal law. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect score is because no state can be perfect as long as the NFA exists
>>
>>34132780
Ditch/Revise the NFA, get rid of gun free zones, maybe pass a law like Alaska iirc which says any federal gun control isn't applicable to the state. Plus some little things like allowing 18-21 year-olds to purchase a handgun from a gun store or not having to report a CC during a police stop.

imo, while 10/10 is the absolute ideal, gun rights are always under assault and will always be to some degree, so 10/10 just isn't possible.
