Generally, people want their guns not to rust.
This is a considerable challenge without a robust finish, which OP has removed and replaced with clear coat.
Thankfully, it was just shitty CZ polycoat so he'd probably have to refinish it someday anyway.
Seriously, why doesn't CZ just use duracoat or at least park their guns.
Sure, parkerization is barely even a finish and is just mostly there to hold oil but at least it doesn't flake at the drop of a hat

What is a good robust finish then?

It doesn't bother me. But for practical purposes, the gun is worse off. The finish is there to protect the gun from rust. It also is relatively durable for longevity purposes. If it rubs off then it can't protect. Clear coat is way less durable, not to mention has questionable resistance to common gun cleaning solvents (as in, no resistance) and oil. So if the chemicals don't get it, then the mechanical wear of it rubbing on stuff will.

Yeah paint the slide black or strip the frame and it will look a lot better.

I mean you really shouldn't strip it and just finish it with what you have lying around but it's too little too late for that so do whatever you want. I doubt the gun cost you too much anyways since it's pre-B.

There might be some that escape me, but those are the most common,
If you want the in-the-white look, just get a stainless gun.

With effort, time, skill and some toxic chemicals yes you can.
You'll want to practice on scrap first to get your technique down. with some methods, a fuckup can genuinely ruin your gun.
Look into traditional hot blueing and rust blueing. Avoid cold blue like the plague, it's pretty much just for touching up little scratches and scrapes in an existing blue.
It's utterly worthless as an actual finish, possibly sub-OP's clearcoat

Many gunsmiths offer it as a service, your results may very.
You could also send it away to some out of state gunsmith well known for being good at it.
A warning though, both of these are going to cost you. Bluing is very labor and time intensive, not to mention the hazmat disposal costs.
It's a vanishing art that gets rarer by the year
