Let's settle this once and for all.
>>
>>34121262
Assume each marine (plus kit) is 250 pounds

Depends on how long it takes each Marine to finish
>>
>>34121285
>>34121339
630,600 US marines.

Your waifu is going to be very soiled.
>>34121262
I think that of they were to merely attempt to board Yamato by parachute, enough of them would land to capsize the ship, despite the full utilization of Yamato's AAA.
>>
>>34121262
If the marines get to use helicopters, RIBs or parachutes, the marines

If not the Yamato in the short term

No matter the starting range the marines will eventually manage to get people on board, the Yamato also simply doesn't have enough ammo to kill that many marines and will eventually have to get replen, even if all of its replenishment could happen at sea its eventually going to have to dock for refit
>>
>>34121262
Dont the marines have airplanes? like even in ww2?
>>
>>34121262
... Or is it Yamamoto's weight as in the guy? In that case the boat. Against half a million marines (assuming above anon is correct)? The boat loses hard.
>>
>>34123871
Its a ship.
>>
it depends. is the boat in the middle of the ocean or in a harbor? if it's in the ocean, the marines have to swim to get to it, they're gonna be tired as fuck when they get there, and some of them will probably drown.
>>
>>34121262
just Marines ?
what are they going to do swim over to the Yamato with satchel charges
>>
>>34123972
>>34123954
FUGGEN AIRPLANES
>>
>>34123979
but that's what did happen
no room for speculation
>>
>>34123979
but the scenario is US Marines vs yamato. not US marines and airplanes vs yamato. you cant just change it like that
>>
DO NOT BULLY YAMATO
>>
>>34123998
alright alright, then clearly the ship.

I mean what are they going to swim out to the ship under a hail of machine gun fire?

Yamato can go 27 knots. It wouldnt even have to shoot the bastards itd just run them the fuck over.

say the marines are on an island shooting at the ship. Assuming all they have are mortars what way could they possibly have to do any meaningful damage while Yamatos main guns are making their environment devoid of life?
>>
>>34124108
Musashi could go 28.5 knots.
>>
>>34121262

Does the Yamato have access to san-shiki shells? It'd probably be easier to get rid of a big ass pile of marines with incendiary rounds than with armor piercing ones.
>>
>>34121466
>marines
>parachute
?
>>
Assuming marines (like the ones in your picture) get a proportional amount of anti-tank weaponry, they could make human rafts out of inflated pants and floating corpsmen and get within range to just bombard the shit out of the Yamato. As previously established, the Yamoto lacks the ammunition to take out all ~500,000 marines and the Marines have a considerable amount of weaponry. They could also lash together improvised rafts and ladders and board the Yamoto, medieval style.
>>
>>34124208
Anti-tank is still small arms by battleship standards.
>>
>>34124208
I agree, /thread

>>34124229
In this case, it's not about individual destructive power, but collective.
>>
>>34124208
What keeps Yammy from just moving out of range? Rafts don't go 28knots.

lol no.

>>34124208
>improvised rafts
>a ship designed to kill and be impervious to surface threats
>>
>>34124229
>>34124244
The Yamato's thickest armor is 650 nm, on it's main turrets. Side thickness is 410 nm at 20°, and an AT4 loaded with HP ammunition had a penetration of 500-600 nm. Assuming the Marines in the picture are the ones going against the Yamato, they should be able to punch a hole in the armor.
>>
>>34124257
The Yamato had a massive fuel consumption. It could definitely make distance on the Marine Raft Flotilla and bombard from range, but it will eventually run out of both fuel and ammunition. At 28 knots, the Yamato burns almost 20 tons of fuel an hour, and I assume there are no fuel resupplies nearby. To continue the fight, it will have to close in to machinegun range.
>>
>>34124321
yeah they'll have a great time aiming while trying not to be murdered by the ocean in their improvised rafts.

Just lure the grunts out into deep water while staying out of their range and then kill enough of them for sharks and exposure to get the rest.
>>
>>34124257
Okay, but this question is kind of like saying:
Angler fish vs Lion

The winner would be determined by the battlefield more than anything. I think we HAVE to say that it can't move, or that it's got to stay within firing distance of land to engage at least.
>>
>>34124383
The equatorial Pacific Ocean is fairly survivable in terms of temperature, and well-made rafts and a few woobies will minimize any exposure problems.
>>
>>34124321
at4 can penetrate 16 inches? holy shit thats actually amazing.
>>
>>34124286
ha, see asshole? I'm choosing to believe this guy:
>>34124321
>>
>>34124434
it depends on a lot. The sea can be calm and flat as a lake, or it can make living in a lifeboat worse than hell.

They wont be able to see the horizon, they wont be able to keep dry. They wont even be able to spot the ship at a distance. The ship will see them though. Day and night.

siting in the galley eating ice cream they'll be able to choose when and where they want to fight and at what range.
>>
>>34124505
I'm not even mad thats amazing.
>>
The range of a Javelin Missile is 3 miles. The guns on the Yamato could place ordinance out to 16 miles. No one is swimming 16 miles out to sea. The Yamato would inflict heavy casualties before retreating back completely unscathed to avoid some retarded makeshift raft scenario.

A Pyrhic victory for the Marines.
>>
>>34124371
If we assume no resupply for Yamato, we should also deny resupply to the marines. Yammy would just keep its distance from the marine rafts and let them die of thirst and/or starvation out in the ocan without having to fire its guns once.

PLOT TWIST!
It's a land battle!

Assume that the Yamato has been propped up on rocks or dug in enough to not list.

What now?
>>
>>34121262
Marines flew airplanes in WWII. So, just history repeating?
>>
>>34124589
Those 18-inch guns on the Yamato only have 900 rounds. Assuming no resupply, the Yamato runs out of ammunition for that range of engagement while only taking out a sliver of the Marine's fighting force.

BUT

>>34124615 is right. The Marines have a far shorter expiration date than the Yamato, barring cannibalism. Ultimately in a no-supplies fight, the Marines will face dehydration and starvation and die within days. The Yamato could easily outpace them and last for weeks without supplies. In a supplied fight, >>34124589 is right, and the Yamato stays outside of the raft's range while slowly turning them into a pile of flotsam.
>>
>>34124652

Now you just seige it and starve it out
>>
>>34121262
First off unless Yamato beached herself this fight wouldn't happen. Secondly, if Yamato was on open sea then the Marines would presumably call in their naval aviation corps or they would call in the navy to deal with this.
Your thread is retarded OP.
