What's /k/s opinion on the lsw?
>>
Stupid, just really stupid. By all accounts they were even worse than the rifle, but its a moot point when the whole notion of a mag-fed automatic rifle with the same barrel profile as the service rifle is retarded any way you slice it.
>>
How did the Brits go from being good at choosing guns to bad at choosing guns in just a couple of years?
>>
>25.4 inch barrel
Dude wtf why is it so goddamn long?
>>
>>34116967

>Magazine fed light machine gun

I guess the British obsession with a bullpup doesn't really work with a belt fed gun.
>>
>>34116967
Accurate as fuck but awkward to carry, there is a reason it is called the crow cannon.

Its heavier than the 85 IW but way more accurate

you can harrass targets out at at a kilomitre and you can get hits at 800m with it, they won't slot the fucker but it will leave a blood trail to follow.

they're not to be used as an LMG/ SAW thats the minimis job, but it was to be used as a DMR of sorts where you fire 2 rounds a second at a window or door to keep thier head down,

Now its only issued to crowbags & remfs because they couldn't afford to put rails on them to make them usable in CQB.

Honest question
Do brit military folk secretly know they fought against the wrong folks in WWII?
Do they feel responsible for tanking the white races last chance for existing?
Will British support a new Nazi regime?

Fun to shoot, but totally useless in it's original purpose of support given the fixed barrel and magazine.

To be fair, we were right to fight the Nazis, we just shouldn't have allied ourselves to the Communists.

No. The war destroyed entire communities across the commonwealth, but people were proud nonetheless since they knew their sons, brothers and fathers had died fighting one of the great evils of our time. The British public could never consciously entertain the idea that they'd been meme'd by bankers into throwing their lives away over fucking Poland of all places.

I don't have a problem with the LSW, I would rather be running around with an L85A2 though, virtually identical but lighter
>>
>>34117737
Oh of course it wasn't. We decided to declare war when we were at our weakest and Germany was at it's strongest. Should have let the Germans and the Russians tear each-other apart for a few years, then sweep in and stomp the loser.

So yeah, wasn't worth bankrupting ourselves by starting the war when we did.

2bh it still minges me off that the Germans basically got off scot free for WW2 and got to be an American welfare baby for most of the 20th century, with the Americans investing hugely in rebuilding their economy. Meanwhile, we're still paying off our war loans.

Corruption.

See Ian's video on the L86 history and the sale of Enfield to a private company.

Its one of the few cases where a government owned and operated institution was far and away the better choice.

Was terrible as a standin for an LMG, hence why they also got an LMG these days.

It is however, pretty good at accurate harrasing fire. There's no doubt about the thing being murderously accurate, just very awkward to work with. It ended up seeing more use as a DMR than as a suppression via volume. So at least it found A use in the end.

As a note, the proposed new version looks weird as fuck, or awesome, depending on your visual tastes. Pic related, in the middle. They've embraced the DMR side of it.

this is an awful picture but the sights are offset. Much like you would fine on many AT weapons where a sight cant be placed ontop.

>>34116967
The LSW was never a replacement for an LMG.

L86 never replaced the GPMG (FN MAG). And was used in conjunction with the FN Minimi.

L86 is designed for a very specific role that the other light machine guns can't provide - accurate firesupport at long range. This is why only 10,000 or so exist comapred to the 300,000+ L85 variant.
>>
>>34119209
>The LSW was never a replacement for an LMG
Yes it was. It was meant to be an auto rifle like an RPK or M27.
>And was used in conjunction with the FN Minimi.
Which was only adopted after the L86 failed in the LMG role so totally.
>L86 is designed for a very specific role that the other light machine guns can't provide - accurate firesupport at long range.
This is a role it was pressed into, not one it was explicitly intended for.
>>
>>34119291
>Yes it was. It was meant to be an auto rifle like an RPK or M27.

Which LMG in British service did it replace?

>Which was only adopted after the L86 failed in the LMG role so totally.
You might want to check your timelines and which services L86 was designed for.

>This is a role it was pressed into, not one it was explicitly intended for.
Please explain the role that L86 was designed for without referring to accurate fire support at long range.
>>
>>34119209>>34119291

yeah >>34119291 is correct. partially

The LSW is the would be replacement for the l4 Bren.

Problem is the bren was used to squeeze off 3 round bursts that were highly accurate.

The section machine gun would still be the gimpy until the bought in the minimi in 1990 then they ridded themselves of the section machine gun team and split the section into two identical fireteams and the gimpy became a platoon or company level asset

I...I really like it.

They could do with extending the hand guard a bit probably, and maybe cutting an inch or two off the barrel, but otherwise, I really like it...

The L4 LMG

>You might want to check your timelines and which services L86 was designed for.
L86A1 introduced into service in 1985
L110A2 was introduced in the late 90's, first documented use of a minimi variant is by UK SF in the first Gulf War
