I almost got memed into getting a .22 rifle for home defense. Because as .22 lovers will tell you: "it kills and you wont find a man who is willing to get shot by it"

But a caliber which is not suited for killing animals above 100lbs without giving them an agonizing death just wont cut it. A wounded deer can run away and bleed out several minutes later but a man charging you with a knife will most likely get to wound you even after being shot to the chest twice.

And if the attacker is armed with a firearm he will have plenty of time to fire back. It sure works for delf defence but it is one of the worst ranged options out there.

Getting it simply because it works is like getting a bow or a crossbow for self defense.
>>
a crossbow would be hella good for home defense if you actually hit them

instant screaming and crying about whether they should take the arrow out or leave it in
they might not even notice a .22

if they don't die they might try to sue you or something though, so better to just go with handgun of choice in decent caliber, a 12 gauge shotgun, or a more capable rifle

saying "it is dangerous and can kill a human" isnt the same as saying "it is a reliable self defense cartridge", you autist.
>>
>>34114644
a crossbow would be better for home defense. it would kill your attacker way faster. everyone who says to get a .22LR rifle for home defense is an utter fucking retard
>>
>>34115008
An old fudd armed with a 10/22 and BX-25 mag of CCI Stingers is probably more deadly than your average suburbanite dad with his Glock 17 or Tyrone with a PT111 in room to room fighting,
>>
STOP LIVING AMONGST OTHER HUMANS!! ALSO GET A DOG!!
>>
For home defence you'll get a shotgun. For race war you'll get a .308
>>
>>34114644
The only advantage of a .22 for home defense is it basically turns into highly accurate full auto dart gun. In the tim it takes to put 3 9mm rounds on a guy you can have 10 .22lr rounds on him.
I'll stick to 9mm, but just sayin.
>>
>>34115363
What if I can own guns and revolvers in .22 and caliber .38 for home defense? What is a good option to go? Take in count I can only own 1 gun

>a crossbow would be hella good for home defense if you actually hit them

A crossbow would be brutal. You'd get a PTSD for life. The screams of the intruder would never leave you, the dying eyes filled with agony looking at you in vain would never clear your mind. Are you ready to live with that?

I use a 10/22 with a 20rd magazine, I've practiced to the point where I can empty it in about 3 seconds and score all hits on a man size target at 10m. I'd be freaked out in a proper situation obviously, but I can put more lead into a target a second than someone with a pump action loaded with buckshot. It's light, easy to turn and point and my wife can use it almost as easily as I can.

My home SD consists of a Glock 30 .45 in a fingerprint ID quicksafe beside the bed, a Mossy 12 gauge with 00 buck behind the bedroom door, and an AR-15 in a concealed cabinet in the living room, and a .357 S&W on top of the entertainment center.

That being said, I have a .22 Marlin 60 that I'd be plenty comfortable with if I needed to use it for SD. 18 rounds, semiauto. Bad guy isn't leaving the house after breaking in. My only concern is that since I'm shooting until the bad guy drops, they may find some extra rounds in the back during autopsy, whereas there's much more likely a one-shot drop with the others.
>>
I EDC a .38 S&W Airweight.

I have a piece of crap .22 RG revolver in the car console. I say piece of crap only because it's cheap and so I wouldn't expect it to last a whole bunch of rounds, but it's been completely reliable. If I could get to that first, I'd feel fine to drop an attacker. Maybe not more than one or two, though.
>>
>>34114644
wounded deer wont just run for a few minutes, I have seen deer literally have a quarter sized hole through their heart and they still run 200 yards which doesnt even seem physically possible

furthermore my friend nd'd a 22 lr into his leg and he didn't even realize it until half an hour later. Would you trust your life to something like that?

Imagine stabbing someone with with a poker the diameter of a 22lr bullet except the poker can only go in three inches, why would you use that.

>>34114644
one time a guy told me his 10/22 never jams, he let me fire it then I took it and rotated it with the bolt facing up and rapid fired a few rounds and it jammed immediately. He was not happy. Probably the nicest 10/22 ive ever seen though, stainless steel and thumb hole stock was sexy
>>
>>34119443
my .22's jam like crazy I am using illegal magazines though fuck Canada.

>>34119386

Agree in part with this guy.

My deer - 3 year old doe - taken last year ran 50yds with her heart literally blown in two, no right shoulder or sternum (150gn Hornady SST in .308) she was dead when she hit the ground but not before she made the tree line. That said, tracking was easy because she basically left her entire blood supply along those fifty yards.

However from working with local fishcops I can attest to 22lr being popular with poachers. They almost always go for headshots and have great success with them. However they also do not care about lost animals or legal consequences.

I also know one guy who hunts feral pigs with a 10/22 with a 30rd mag. He just mag dumps at them and doesn't care if he retrieves the body but assures me it is effective at Removing Bacon.

>>34114644
You use 22lr to shoot their joints so they can't run away and finish them with a knife.
>>
>>34120196
Amateur. You shoot them in the ballsack with a Red Ryder BB gun and then jump them with a spork while they're distracted by the pain.

here is a .22lr dropping a 400 lb hog in one shot
https://youtu.be/4J7kgpIaGeI

a .22lr is the same diameter projectile as a 5.56. it puts the same size hole in you.
however, with much less powder, it travels slower and tumbles when it goes in doing more damage then a 5.56.
So, do you think an AR is suitable for defense?
